"Paint by numbers" Humbrol Visual Guide - ESB & ROTJ Helmet & ESB Armor

The armour paint list you are looking at is specifically for the armour pieces on the AOSW reference pics, where as Raf's templates are for the screen used ESB armour pieces...

ah i see.. to be honest i just followed the armor path on this mindmeister chart witch lead to your thread Boba Fett Paint Colors - MindMeister Mind Map .
I can see that i should have payed better attention to start with.

Maybe do a search for ESB armour colour list, should give you some good options to match colours to Raf's templates...(y)

Okay so i looked around and and put together this one and i am pretty sure that its at least 75% ESB accurate
please give me your comments and critique.

Gonna try to get a similar chart done for the ROTJ version of the helmet, just gonna try to figure out what mixture of Humbrols i can replace the Floquils with.

Okay so as far as i can figure out the preferred red Humbrol color for the ROTJ mandibles is Wine No .73

Personally the color seems a bit off, does anyone have any suggestions ?

Also found someone using this combination [Humbrol No. 60, mixed with 73 and 82]
but that's on a prepro helmet witch look very similar in my eyes.

You can get most of the ROTJ Humbrols from my thread bud, the only issue is the back panel green. I virtually tried every combination of humbrol greens, and could never get the correct hue and vibrancy I was able to achieve with the Floquils. As for the mandible Red, I actually think Floquil Caboose is the colour that was used on the real helmet, and still the best option. But if it has to be Humbrol, the closest colour to the Caboose, is actually Humbrol 100 (Red/Brown). It may not appear so in the image paint chart or tin lid, but when sprayed, it is the closest to caboose you will get in the Humbrol range. Anyone who wants to go this way will still want to colour test it for themselves, but it was an option I thought about going with earlier in the piece, when I was having some trouble locating the caboose.. :)

i wish i could get my hand on the Floquil colors myself and do a comparison test but as Jayvee pointed out they are getting harder to come by and especially for someone in Europe like me :)

Really looking forward to see a ROTJ version of your visual guide.
As I plan to paint such a helmet and the Humbrol paints are the easiest to get hold of for me that's exactly what I'm going to need!
Thanks a lot for your efforts!

Okay so here is a WORK IN PROGRESS of the ROTJ version.
(Still need to figure out the ears and triangle colors + some of the scratches ect.)
This was compiled using colors from two lists :
Jayvee's ROTJ paintup www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/update-2013-wip-jayvees-lil-chunk-rotj-love-paint-up-45306/
and
Terminal Fettlers List here http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/rotj-paint-colours-uk-34267/#post460709

As always i have used RafalFett's stencils http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/boba-fett-rotj-helmet-stencils-42184/

Personally i find the ROTJ paint scheme is a lot more challenging than ESB and i would really like if people would leave some feedback on this,
maybe you will notice something i didn't

Nice work man.

I too am very curious about the mandibles as I believe them to be the same colour as the ROTJ gauntlets. I've been looking for alternatives for Floquils because EvilBay wants a boatload for shipping to Canada.

We may want to look into humbrol 133: brown satin as well as a mix?

I will test Jayvee's red 100 out of the tin and see what happens when it dries.

Word of caution death proof - never go by a colour chart sample - they often vary considerably to the colour in person, and particularly once it is sprayed through an airbrush..(y)

Overall, a nice Humbrol collection. I would Highly recommend going with my Humbrol mix for the Dome and lower cheeks though, and if you don't want to mix anything, then even Humbrol 31 alone is a better representation of the ROTJ than 78. 78 is great for ESB though..

I would also still be careful using black and mists for the upper cheeks. Garrett is extremely talented and colour knowledgeable, so can make it work. But I think this may be tricky for everyone to pull off, and have the cheeks look the way they should. Again, even though its not Humbrol, I still like the tamiya sea blue mix, and found no real great alternative in the Humbrol line alone - and trust me when I say I colour tested extensively for those suckers! :)
