original prop helmet straps

Yeah I'll see what I can do. But again aside from it being nice to know it does not change the timeframes. Are you disputing that the pictures I'm talking about are not from the dates I am telling you? Because that is what's important for the purpose of this conversation about the helmet suspension

I think Keegan might be right regarding the helmet straps, as the Supertrooper costume documentation lacks this info:

But is also true that this list doesn't include the MQ-1 circuit board, which means that this piece (possibly) was mounted only after this suit was transformed to the Pre-Pro #1 suit (but there's no evidence that the PP1 helmet had it installed).

Quite a bit of debate about this indeed... The quest to have something 100% spot on screen accurate could take years of research.....

Needless to say a chin strap looks like a sensible option

Years of research; yes.
Since we don't have any pictures of the ESB helmet interior during filming we can't say for sure what sort of foam they has rigged up if any. They did indeed have the chin cup with straps installed and the " bonnet" waa worn.
For ROTJ the same is true but since there is a excellent argument they would have rigged it with the suspension at that time, I would rig it as shown in the picture intwenothor has linked.
