Allright boys and girls,
I promised a walk through on how to mount your metal ears and here it is.
Start with the following items.
You will need an exacto knife, a Reamer, a philips and flat head screw driver that can fit inside your helmet, an assortment of drill bit sizes to match up to the holes you will be drilling, a drill of course, your templates, your screws and your off!
Start by printing my template using the link provided. Print it at 100% other wise it will not help you.
Cut them out with an exacto blade. Cut the holes out as well.
Now place your templates on there respective spots marking with a marker where the holes go.
Now select a drill bit that is an approriate size. Use a variable speed drill so you can start off slow and gain a piolt hole so the drill bit dosnt wander on you.
Once all the holes are drilled you want to use your Reamer to expand the size of the holes. Why have a slightly bigger hole then your screw? This allows you to adjust the placement of your ears to match up perfectly with your helmet.
On the upper right ear I double checked the size of the top most hole as it is very close to the edge of the ear side. Double check all of your placements as you tweak the size of the holes with the reamer so you dont over expand the hole. Take your time and dont rush!
Do make sure and sand the in side around the holes you drilled as this will eliminate any stray fiber barbs form the drilling.
Make sure and have your screws handy and in some cases you may or may not need washers depending on the thickness of the fiberglassing by the ears your screws may be a tad to long... this is an easy fix, just ad a small washer and your set!
Now you can begin bolding on your ears and stalk.
And bada-bing... your done. Now sit back and marvel at your work, give your self a pat on the back... you just drilled a bunch of holes in your helmet...
