I did hear of one guy putting it below his chin on the inside front of the helmet anagles up to his face. Now getting the helmet on after that would be tricky so he mounted his on an angles mount that sticks to the helmet with velcro so he can put it in after he gets the helmet on.

What is a good fan to install and a good mic and speaker system? Does anybody have a diagram of how or where to install?
-
Merged: Merged: Merged: Re: HELMET MODS HELP
well personally i dont think you need a fan system. but as to a good mic go to radio shack here is a pic of it so it will be easy to find. it's called the 'personal microphone system' and the part number is 32-2015 the normal price is $29.99 but mine was on sale for 19.99 so yours may have it on sale too.

Merged: Merged: Self Contained Mic? What to use?
I'm looking to install a mic in my Jango helmet, but I want something that will come through a speaker in my helmet, not my chest or on a belt. Does anyone know where i can find a kind of headset or something of that sort for under or around $35?
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Self Contained Mic? What to use?
That's a tough one. I used the exact same Radio Shack amp, mic and laptop speakers that our Stormtroopers use in their helmets for a while, and it was never loud enough. People still had to stick their heads next to my helmet and say "What?" I think it's cause the speakers are placed front-facing in the aerators of the trooper helmets and they can't be with a Fett helmet. I had them at the bottom of each earpiece facing down, so the sound would come out the bottom of the helmet and sound natural, but like I said it was never loud.
I just recently bought one of those Radio Shack personal PA units as described on the RPF a month or so ago. The kind that has the speaker in my belt pouch. Lynn and Dean O bought these also. It's louder, but I still wish I could figure out something self-contained in the helmet or upper chest that would be loud enough to hear and not sound like it's coming from my hip.

Merged: Merged: Re: Self Contained Mic? What to use?
So basially, no one has been able to get it just right so far?
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Self Contained Mic? What to use?
I think it's because there's no forward facing place to stick speakers based on the shape of the Fett helmet.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Self Contained Mic? What to use?
Kylash, if your doing jango, u could put a speaker under the rangfinder if the earpiece was lowered. that might work.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Self Contained Mic? What to use?
do you mean dremel out the earpiece to make it hollow or what? I dont quite get it. My earpiece is lowered, but It was a Don Post so I just removed it and lowered it and glued in place.

Ok, I was thinking of putting in my voice amp today, but I'm not sure how to go about it.
I have the old $10 Galaxy Trading one, with the little mount for the mouthpiece. I guess I should glue that on the lower part of the inside visor in front of my mouth? Where should I run the speaker to?

Merged: Merged: Re: Voiceamp question
I'm not sure this would work, but has anyone tried a speaker in the neck seal? The sound would be clearer than in the helmet, and better yet, it would be coming out of the head area instead of your groin. ;)

that is not the definitive place to the speaker, i just try but if you make a little hole in the pouch and not one hole :D oviusly maybe sound good, but im trying your idea :thumbsup

Merged: Merged: Re: Voiceamp question
I've tried the speakers in the helmet, neckseal, and currently the RS unit inside the saddle bag. I didn't get feedback in the neckseal, but the speaker itself wasn't loud enough, same thing with the 2 stormtrooper laptop speakers in the helmet.
The RS unit is the loudest so far out of what I've tried, but with the sound coming out of my left hip, it's still not loud coming out of my mouth area like it should.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Self Contained Mic? What to use?
I've got one of those Radio Shack white box amps, What would you recoomend with that? The volume doesnt seem to get very loud on that thing either. Im thinking of buying one of those personal amp and mic systems, the long black box.

Merged: Merged: Re: Putting a fan in your helmet?
I dremmeled out the recessed indent on the left earpiece, backed it with metal screen mesh & hotmelted a CPU fan inside the helmet. It is controlled by a 9v battery & simple pushbotton switch which are mounted in the cavity inside the helmet where the other earcap is. I also dremmeled out the rear keyholes & backed these with mesh as well.
I had no problem with the helmet visor fogging up & I even have a gasket seal on the bottom. I think a second fan would be even better if it could be mounted in the back area & have the fans work in a push/pull configuration to allow the most ventilation possible.
I'll get a few pics up to show what I mean.

HEY bigkidbiggertoys .That helmet looks great. I like what you did to it with the cpu fans and metal screens. I need to ventilate my metal helmet as well and add cushions. Your method is excellent.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Putting a fan in your helmet?
My helmet has the same places cut out of it with the metal screen behind it. It works well to help air you out. I mounted my fan in the front of the mask though. Its at the bottom of the visor on a hinge. It can point at my face or down and push the air out the bottom of my helmet under my chin. It works to keep my mask from fogging up.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Putting a fan in your helmet?
O.K.
Forgive my stpidity.WHY on earth would you put A fan in the back of your helmet? With wearing A balaclava there is no room fo the air to circulate.Put your fans into the earcaps.I drilled three holes under the rangefinder.Mount one fan there.
It will suck in cool air thru the outside.Mount your second fan in the left earcap. Now you have one fan sucking in cool air,and the other to circulate.I have read of several people mounting there fans in the rear. This makes no sense to me.But
hey whatever.I mounted my fans as stated above. It works great.
Hit your smoke, blow it into my helmet.Within 2-3 seconds the
smoke is blown back into your face and the helmet is clear.
GOOD Luck and I hope this helps some of you out.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Putting a fan in your helmet?
My thinking was that the three little holes in the right earcap wouldn't do squat as far as airflow was concerned. The keyholes seem logical because they are larger & will allow more air to pass through. I don't have the problem of my head riding against the back of the helmet so I think this will work fine for me.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Putting a fan in your helmet?
I used "solar screen" for the brow openings of my Trooper helmet. It is black screen that is VERY tightly woven so you can't see through it .It passes air just as well as regular screen but looks MUCH better.IMHO.You can find it at Lowe's or Home Depot. It costs about twice as much as regular screen but it is well worth it ! Give it a try.

mmm accesories .... well i have the voice amp microphone and chips :) and your idea sounds good but, you can put a bottle in your jet pack and tubes to your helmet :), puting water in your helmet its very weird ... why? ... because you dont have many space inside the bucket, rememer your head go insaide :D, and the best stuff to put inside are those 9v little vents or servo motors, microphones, switches and other stuff :D

I still intend to put a Vortex 1 voice changer/amp mic and a FRS radio mic (so I can communicate with my wife in her Boushh costume) in my helmet. :)
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Helmet accesories
I've never actually seen that cooler in person, but I wonder if you could wear it at the base of your skull, if the back of the helmet would cover it... It claims to cool your ENTIRE body for ~4 hours. :)
As for the CamelBak, I've heard of several Fetts installing them IN their jet packs to disguise them. :)
Oh, and if you DO decide to use the CamelBak, you might want to consider using one of these as well... ;)

Merged: Merged: Re: Putting a fan in your helmet?
And if you have room, an eshaust fan couldn't hurt either.. It will keep the hot stale air from building up inside the helm
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Putting a fan in your helmet?
If you go spidies route youll need a condom cath and leg bag. You'll need to be more careful about bumping into things with that than your costume.
On a serious note, I think Im going to install one of those gaskets like Jango. Not a 100% pure to the actual costume but It would give you an alternate site to place fans/speakers. Ill let you guys know how this works out when I get to that point.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Voiceamp question
I know Im really late on this, but How about having more than one speaker, placing one speaker in the Jet Pack, and some smaller ones in the pouches? You could get one inside the Missle on back, and therefore the sound would be coming from behind your head but still in the head area.

That's a pretty good idea. Except running a wire to the jet pack. It would have to be detachable so when the jet pack comes off though.

Here's a link to a very sad picture of the inside of my helmet. It's an RS amp with the small trooper speakers on top of the visor. There's a small opening between the visor and the helmet, vertually unnoticable, but lets the sound out. I don't have a problem with feedback.

Merged: Re: Where's the best place to find how to install greeblies?
Well, the fan thread helped at least. It appears no one has come up with a speaker solution though. Too bad. I don't want my voice coming from my crotch (i.e. belt pouch).
-
Merged: Re: Where's the best place to find how to install greeblies?
I've heard a few people were able to mount a small speaker in their helmet without getting the feedback. That would be nice if the volume doesn't reverberate inside the helmet. That way you wouldn't have to run a wire from your helmet to wherever. I'm looking into the tiny computer speakers myself. That is what most stormtroopers use in their helmets.
-
Merged: Re: Where's the best place to find how to install greeblies?
Let me know if you find something Fettish, and I'll do the same. My wife's picking up a really nice Boba helmet I'm gonna have to wire as well. ;)

Merged: Merged: Re: Fett Mic & Speaker Installation
I just wear the headset for my mic and FRS under the helmet.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Fett Mic & Speaker Installation
It can be done, just trying to do it as effectively as the Cyberdyne Labs version is the thing. They make an incredible awesome version, complete w/ Fett's voice, but it's $400+.
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Fett Mic & Speaker Installation
I got one at radioshack, Shackman turned me onto it. It slips on over your head, flexible mic comes around and rests in front of your mouth. Very easy to position and wear, if you get the head thingie to stay on while putting your helmet on!
The cord from the headset I wind down the back of my armor, hidden by the cape/jet pack. I hooked the speaker on the back of my belt. Volume control works really well. Gives a darn nice effect. Really gives people some thought.
Only one small drawback...
After awhile of hearing you, they will ask one thing:
"Why do you sound kinda strange?"
"Because the sound is coming out of my butt!!!"
:lol
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Fett Mic & Speaker Installation
Hey BH
Just a thought on this, (and it's probably been said before, sorry if I missed it:o) couldn't you put the speaker in one of the front pouches on the belt ?
Might avoid the comments about 'butt' talk :lol
Jason
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Fett Mic & Speaker Installation
Yup, it's more than likely do-able Jason. Run the mic cord out the back of the helmet, under to the front of the vest, put on the belts, etc. When the pouches finally go on,hook the mic into the speaker inside.
I didn't make it real clear in my post, sorry. I was testing the speaker set up while wearing my custom Mandalore suit.
Similar to Jangos, but no front pouches...
:)
take care,

Merged: Merged: Re: Fett Mic & Speaker Installation
You are referring to problems with feedback. The best way to try to avoid feedback (that I have found) if you are going to try to stuff it all in the helmet is to mount the speaker behind your head. *Your head can eliminate the feedback.
*I am not responsible for whatever new form of cancer using your head as a radio buffer gives you. :)
-
Merged: Merged: Re: Fett Mic & Speaker Installation
that was what I was going to say its all about the feedback. If you put the mic and speaker close together well, we have all heard the squeal from that.
I guess the keyholes would be a good spot far enough away to prevent that, something worth trying for sure. Is there any type of feedback inhibitor?
There has to be something or else hyperdyne wouldn't be able to function as I have heard people claim with that set up it doesn't matter location wise of mic and speaker (this may be incorrect as it is second hand information).
Can't wait for any solutions that won't cost me $400.00.
