Not all fans are created equal....

Anomaly

New Hunter
so i made this comment in another thread a little while back, and noticed that there was quite some interest in the details of small fans.

the fans that most of us use in our buckets are usually just the plain off the counter cheap cpu cooling fans.
but as with everything these days, theres always more options for those willing to research.

there are 6 things that I looked for when researching my new fans.
1. Size
2. Power consumption
3. airflow
4. Voltage
5. Noise
6. price

It didnt take long to realise, that you can get fans that will be smaller, move more air, with lower voltage, and less battery usage, than your standard cheap cpu fans.

surely this is to good to be true you say?

well here is a quick breakdown of some fans
I will compare a sunon PC fans to the standard $10-15 radio shack micro fan for reference.

Size:
radio shack is 40X40mm, Sunon fan 40X40

Power Consumption:
Radio Shack 1.6w, Sunon fan 1.1w

airflow:
radio shack 5.3CFM, Sunon fan 8.9CFM

Voltage:
radio shack 12vdc, Sunon fan 5vdc

noise:
radio shack 27db, Sunon fan 27db

yeah but whats the price?

Radio shack micro fan- $12.99
Sunon fan- $9.30

Me personally, I wanted to go for small fans. they arrived in the mail and im very happy with them.

as you can see, they are stupidly small. 25mmX25mm
but the awesome thing, is they are 5v, only use 0.8w, make only 27db of noise, and still push out 3.5CFM!

So as you can see, not all fans are created equal.
If you value your hard earned dollar, and want to get the most out of your batterys, fans, and trooping comfort.....I strongly suggest you do a little research before settling on a fan.

Hope this is helpful!

They look great - but which fans are they, where did you get them from and how much did they cost?

the fans I ordered are 25X25mm Sunon fans.
part number is KDE0502PFB1-8
there are lots of distributors of sunon fans. but the one i used was coolerguys.com for $7.95

Thx for the info, I couldn't believe that the smaller fan(25x25) was better until I actually tested against a (50x50). It is a very noticeable difference. I got mines cheaper on ebay and the fans are still working fine after a year.
