Great work FP!
Great work FP!
Dang, you guys get sneak peeks at all the cool projects.
I think Justin likes that helmet a little too much, theres a line between obsession and...just plain weird.
Great comparison pics! That new helmet does look pretty close to me, but then again I never nitpick the Boba helmets apart like a lot of the "helmet guys" do. Seriously, to me and pretty much the rest of the world (besides TDH), every Boba helmet out there looks like Boba Fett. As long as it's shaped like a Boba helmet with a T-visor and dent and rangefinder (generically speaking), everyone you see will recognize it as Boba Fett, regardless of which paintjob you paint yours in, or how many milimeters this section is apart, etc.
I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, it's just that there's a lot of different Boba helmets out there and while every 'maker' is striving to be more movie accurate (which I fully admire), to everyone seeing you wearing your Boba helmet in public at events, it doesn't matter who made it, they just see Boba Fett. Doesn't matter if it's a repainted Rubies or this brand new FP one. They see Boba Fett. But for the TDH community, I know we're always striving to make a better Boba. Yay for our insane commitment !!!
For me personally, most of those Mystery sized helmets look too wide for my skinny shoulders, so I'm pretty much stuck with old school helmets as it is. I have 3 helmets in my closet under various degrees of being finished, and all are smaller (2 DP vinyls and 1 DP sized fiberglass). I wish I could get a cool helmet like the rest of you guys, but most of them make me look like a Bobble-Head. The Sgt Fang helmet "might" be about the max limit of large size to match my body frame, but in this thread it's being said this new helmet is even larger than the Sgt Fang so most likely would look bad on me. The whole movie look is deceiving. Even though the ESB and ROTJ helmets are probably the exact same size, in the stills from ESB the helmet looks really huge on Bulloch's head, but in ROTJ it doesn't. So, for an ESB helmet, I guess I could go with a large Mystery type helmet and the Bobble-Head look would work for that one being accurate.
It's late and I'm rambling on. Regardless, that's a KILLER helmet that FP has created (with group effort this time) and I'm sure will continue to raise the costuming bar once again.
I am so in love right now...and with a helmet, that was reworked by a group of outstanding helm guy gurus...If this was heard in any other place but here, it would be so wrong, and on so many levels.
Thanks again guys, for the outstanding work on this. And now...I want one...
Kudos to all of you. It really will be the pinnacle Boba helmet.
Great job on the helmet. I'm hoping FP can accommodate the vast amounts of orders he's about to get!
How does this look in person? I'm wondering how the horizontal curve of a visor would fit with the vertical arc of the mandibles.
That curve is there believe it or not, but one of our comments we marked was to lessen the curve to make it more subtle. But it is there.
Looks like the keyslot slope needs more angle on it
Thats fantastic!!! You guys must be as happy with yourselves as we are eager to get our hands on one!!!
How long before we can all start talking prices??????????????
how 'bout a side by side with a mystery helmet?
Sadly we dont have a mystery helmet on hand to do that with.
Looking forward to details!
So anxious....can't wait...much....longer
we looked at this over and over and over....we know this curve is present...however we agree it is a little more subtle than what is curently on the FPH. As EVAN4218 said the adjustment will be made and it should come out great. The Best part about this project is that it is a group effort so everyhing we are doing has been reviewed many times so that the most accurate bucket will be created. I am confident that this will be the best helmet FP has ever done!!
It is bigger then the Marrow Sun but smaller then the MSH2. I belive it to be as close to the size of the real deal as we will ever get with a fan made. The mysterys are to small if your going for the size of the real deal. But the MSH2 was to big... I think folks will be quite happy with this helmets size!
That's encouraging to hear, evan4218. Maybe there's hope after all. I'd still have to try one on to see if it would be too wide for my skinny shoulders, though.
You said the "Mystery" helmets are too small? You mean like the Sgt Fang, his was one of the Mysteries, right? I thought FPs original helmet and the Sgt Fang were from basically the same source helmet??? Now I know my Don Post's are too small to the common man, but with my skinny head I have to actually install 1" foam blocks into my Don Post helmet to make it sit nicely on my skull.
Now as far as how Natty came up with his, I remember reading way back when, but really I just don't remember...anyone??
And I think with this new FPH helmet our goal was to make the most accurate fan-made helmet possible.....everyone always knew the MSH2 was too big......yet after seeing the Fett exhibit at C4 allot of us agreed that the "Traditional Mystery Helmet", Marrow's or Sarge's, was still a little small compared to the real deal....I know I know, that is a very BOLD statement. But throughout my time at C4 I spoke with a number of fellow TDH'ers that agreed.
In addition, at the exhibit we took some shots of a Mystery Helmet "fairly close" to the Exhibit...and the Mystery Helmet was noticeably smaller in terms of over all shape...however details like Ears, RF, etc it was just way to hard to tell, and keep in mind the helmet we used had the new RS ears on....Thanks GBH.
I think at this point a great helmet for "costuming" is cool, and things like "How would it Look on me" is an extremely important question....heck lord knows how many times I was called "JANGO" when I was in the Fett suit here recently.
But our goal was to try and be as accrurate to the Exhibit as possible, and unfortunatly the Costuming or Trooping aspect NEVER came into play.
At one point it was going to be a 100% ESB helmet, with all the Cracks and gauges...now just a universal Bucket....with so many options ...
I think in the end Fettpride came pretty close with a "Happy Medium" of sorts for everyone....
Hope that helps?

To add to what Spidey said... the Natty was a fan sculpt done with clay on top of a DP95. (correct me if I am wrong)
The reason the Mystery helmets are "too small" is due to dozens of generations or recasting... every time you recast something or make a mold your new product shrinks a bit, the level of that shrinkage can be controlled some by the quality of product and the way you mold the helmet. You can also have deformations to the basic shape of the piece... be it the flair or other aspects. Even RS's plug, a first gen casting from a studio helmet has shrinkage. The issue with most the mystery helmets is they have been molded and remolded to the point that they have lost a measurable amount of size from the real deal. This dosnt apply to you if your only interest is costuming and what looks good on you.
My interest is to have the most accurate helmet possible on a museum quality display so how the helmet looks on me when I wear it is of no concern of mine. I have a wide variety of helmets in different sizes to choose from to look "right" on me when I troop. The effort of the FPH is to have a bassist for a truly accurate helmet based on what we witnessed at C4.
Where's Lee on this one? I know enough to vouch for now, that fortunately for RS, he had the best industry men on the job with this one (why wouldn't he?), so no, IF (and that's a BIG "IF") there was shrinkage it would be in the undetectable thousanths upon thousanths. We're talking less than the thickness of human hair. That plug wasn't just a bit of work from someone's garage, that much is apparent now. I heard that shrinkage rumor a long time ago, and not only do I not agree, but digital measuring instruments disagree too. That thing has been through so much scrutiny it's rediculous. When you add found parts, the measurements are identical. I'm a patient pefectionist type, and I've got to hand it to that plug, RS is a lucky dude.
