Re: NEW!! Fettpride Bucket aka "FPH" !!

In talking with Lee at length he also said the same thing in regards to shrinkage..."less than the thickness of human hair"....I kinda didn't follow/ understand that whole theory??
Do you think way back when Lee's current Plug was made that "shrinkage" was even a concern for the makers of that mold?
And if not, then there would be a slight possibillty of what is known to occur in the prop community as some level of shrinkage, no?

I mean I know there are better products out now that can prevent any type of Shrinkage, but back then?? did they really consider all that?
I don't think its to ridiculas or to far fetched to make the assumption on the products they used back then that "MIGHT" cause some type of Shrinkage? It's Kinda a valid question when speaking in terms of exact accuracy....

Again I think Unless you've seen the real deal up close, I think most people would be surprised on how big it really was in person....

I say we go to London and do an "Oceans 11" and take the thing!!

I think you mean Ocean's 12 since that is where they steal the egg thing. And if you remember correctally they got caught when they tried to do it at the museum. They stole the real thing while it was being transported. I some how doubt the Fett helmet is being transported in a backpack on a train.

Further I think the oppterunity to "Ocean's 12" it would have been at CIV. Really how hard would it have been to just swap out one of Justin's or Jason's helmets for the real deal? No glass and minimal security. No one would have noticed until it was time to pack the thing up. Call it an oppterunity lost my friends.

I'm with SingleSeat. As far as RS's plug is concerned... that's the damned closest thing to the original size as you'll find.

About "human hair," I'm not saying it because Lee said it. I'm saying it because the numbers and percentages say it. Higher math is the language of the universe and I'll trust it before I'll believe what you say about tottering on a foot stool next to the real prop and holding another bucket in the air. For your own sanity, just stop trying to discredit the guy's helmet. Be happy with the project you have going here.

You're really wearing me out with that man (definitely need to hear a new chorus). It just doesn't hold up under a caliper and it really doesn't hold up with known dimensions to cross-check.

Where's Lee on this one? I know enough to vouch for now, that fortunately for RS, he had the best industry men on the job with this one (why wouldn't he?), so no, IF (and that's a BIG "IF") there was shrinkage it would be in the undetectable thousanths upon thousanths. We're talking less than the thickness of human hair. That plug wasn't just a bit of work from someone's garage, that much is apparent now. I heard that shrinkage rumor a long time ago, and not only do I not agree, but digital measuring instruments disagree too. That thing has been through so much scrutiny it's rediculous. When you add found parts, the measurements are identical. I'm a patient pefectionist type, and I've got to hand it to that plug, RS is a lucky dude.
I would love to hear Lees thoughts on that. Having never seen the plug, never seen posted measurments of the plug... I can only speculate. But I agree that Lee would know better as he has done a battery of tests and measurements on that thing.

WOW, did I hit a nerve or something???

Look, like it or not they are VALID questions....I don't see where I was trying to discredit anyone?? heck I even talked to Lee about the same types of things.....and trust me, it was more than a civil discussion....but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

When it comes down to it unless you have exhibit A helmet in front of you, VS. "EXHIBIT" B helmet....then WE will all never really know...

Again sorry that my valid questions bother you...but please for the sake of the thread please leave your comments TO ME directed in PM only.....as you never returned my last PM to you.....no point in ruining another thread SS.

    Thanks SS

and for the record, I've actually seen the real thing, in person.

hmm. I thought it was posted around here somewhere a few years ago. Sure the plug is nice and all, but I don't want to pull the thread too far away from the FPH. nudge, nudge. I'm sure everyone would still like to see more mystery-comparison whenever possible.

That's because you're the sole member of SingleSeat's vBulleten Ignor List, so I never received that PM after I told you to get out of my office the other day. I guess I couldn't hear you were still talking after the door closed, but, no, we're not going to PM anymore, and now I'm just going to stop answering you and let you exist peacefully in your own world.

    Good point SS.

What as far as Mystery Helmets go is the closest to the real deal in lineage? I always believed that the MS1 was more so then the Sgn Fang. But I could be wrong. I just believed they came from different sources with the same origin. If that is true we want to compare this FPH to the MS1.

Impossible to say for sure. Both were simply bought off eBay by their "owners" with no true knowledge of their history.... If possible, compare it to both. No such thing as too much information or too many pics.

Good point. From the comparisons I have done between the MS1 and the Sarge, the Sarge seems a tad smaller... this could be from sanding and remastering... and from additional generations of recastings... but no way to be sure. Once we get a pull of the final FPH helmet I will make sure we get some picks of it next to each of those.

Ok I'm here. Well uh errr where to begin. As Chris said forget the shrinkage thing the piece was cast in ultracal which has some of the lowest shrinkage percentage of anything you could have cast it from. Chris has a copy of my helmet (there I let the cat out of the bag) so he has looked it over. I think you guys did a gret job on this one and I'm very happy folks have another good helmet to add to their collections.

The ultimate goal for us is to get it right..period. So these types of questions came about to insure we cover all aspects of size and shape..nothing more.

Hey Spidey, what was your impression of the FPH compared to TF? I'm finding the picture confusing because in the first image the TF looks overall larger; the dome and Tshape, but the 2nd and third the FPH seems larger. looking at it in photoshop and superimposing the two, the FPH seems slightly larger overall with longer mandibles. Is that a true assumption?

In my opinion I think the TF is the closest thing to the new FPH in terms of details out of all the helmets we looked at...
Over all the TF is very close in size, not as wide, and slightly taller than the FPH..

And just for the record all the fan-made helmets we looked at are all great helmets, we just wanted to give people an over all picture of the size of the FPH based on what people currently have, nothing more.
...Heck I wish I could own all of them as a collector, but the wifey won't let me...

Wider then the TF, eh? Huh. The TF helmet is a big helmet. But I agree about what you said earlier- the real deal is a big helmet. I didn't realize just how big until I saw mine for the first time. I'm also happy to hear that the TF is closest overall to the FPH though. =)

What I meant was, the "details" like the mandible rim, most of the edges, the key slot box on the TF, are all similar and have very clean edges like the FPH helmet.
But over all the TF is ultimately Bigger because of it's hieght.....i have a ton more shots, some straight on shots. I can post those if you'd like.?? let me know?

Re: NEW!! Fettpride Bucket aka "FPH" !!

    Hey everyone !

My apologies for not being able to participate in this thread until now. As Alex already posted, I am in the process of a big move. Third leg of the process. Still not done yet, but getting there. It just requires me to be going back and forth from where I'm currently located, and where I'm moving from time to time.

Where to start? This thread has already grown, so I'll have to attempt to address everything I can. If I miss something, feel free to call me on it, and I'll do my best.

    First order of business ...

Many thanks to Alex (Spideyfett), Justin (Evan4218 ), and Jason (Darth Miller) for their contributions, and efforts in this project. They've been a tremendous help every step of the way. From our initial conversations, to their feedback in it's conception stages, to heading up it's introduction and workin their glutes off to take great pictures and answer your questions and comments. It's an extraordinarily hectic time in my life right now, if they had not been so gracious, this project wouldn't have seen the light of day for a long time. Keep in mind, they all have lives of their own. So I am grateful ... couldn't have done it without you guys !!

A second round of thanks goes out to Lee (Rogue Studio's) and Chris (SS) for being so cool about letting a their RF Earcap Assembly be used for the pictures. I was in such I time crunch before I left for Indy this last time, I didn't have a chance to make the remaining pieces. It woulda looked pretty naked without them. Not to mention, I think that those accurate caps do a 'lil somethin for the look of the bucket too Thanks guys

    The FPH ...

Where to start? K, first and foremost, let me address a few of your private concerns and questions.

Question #1 - Is this one of your un-released ROTJ Helmets from back in 2004/2005?

Answer #1 - Absolutely NOT. It will be very evident soon, when I post a comparison of these two helmets together. This helmet is larger, in every way. I know it was the shape of the dent that threw those of you off that asked this question.. The dent is NOT the same either. The FPH dent is a SCRATCH made dent, and is about 20% larger. Again, it will be clear when I post comp shots at a later date. I have to dust off the un-used ROTJ bucket mold and pull a quick copy to illustrate this.

Question #2 - Is the FPH a re-worked / remastered "Master Replica" recast?

Answer #2 - Believe it or not, the question has not been asked, but it's been implied. Absolutely NOT. Again, this will be evident soon, as I will make a gallery of build up pictures from start to finish available on my website very soon. It won't be anything real organized, in any real order, as they're just pics I took with my cell phone at different stages along the way, but they're all there.

Question # 3 - Is the FPH a re-worked / remastered recast of a "Mystery Helmet", of "Terminal Fettler" helmet ?

Answer #3 - Absolutely NOT, and absolutely NOT. Again, pics to follow, read on

Question #4 - Why do a new helmet, when the MSH2 was still a popular choice?

Answer #4 - This answer is multi-faceted. The MSH2 was of course conceived from an original MSH. A helmet that has stood the test of time, sculpted by our very own Natty15d. A terrific sculpt. Admittedly, there were some things that could be refined, I took on the task and purchased the rights to it. Along the way, with so little reference available, and pics with odd angles and perspectives, all that we had at the time ... the helmet soon took on a very different look during the re-mastering. One that I was never very satisfied with. What's more, although the MSH was a terrific helmet, and the MSH2 was a pretty neat helmet in some respects, I wanted to venture away from the whole "MSH" label, and make my own helmet. Ya know? Something I can call my own, and not ride the coat-tales of another artisan's work any longer. In my opinion, the MSH is a classic helmet, that should have never been tampered with. Hats off to ya Nathan !

So lets just get down to the heart of the matter ....

The FPH did start life as an old un-released MSH2 (Ear-On version). Back in the day, I let the forum decide whether or not the ears should be cast on, or off of the helmet, and the majority wanted accurate "Ears-Off". So it never saw the light of day. The funny thing is, it was a test casting that I've had laying in my shop for years, and looked at it one day after Spidey, Evan, and Miller came back from C4 and thought, Hmm? Lets cut that bad boy into a million little pieces and see what I can do with it

So that's the simple answer. I should note that although I can be a traditional sculptor when I WANT to be, in this case, there was already a base, and I was being lazy. Since there were some aspects of the helmet that appeared "Right", i saw it as a good place to start. But soon, realized, that this base, was quickly going to disappear when I started seeing what needed to be done to it. And it did. There is absolutely nothing left in this helmet that is from the MSH family. Gone. The MSH was already next to nonexistent in the MSH2. So what started out as an "MSH3", quickly became the FPH. In retrospect, it probably would have been easier just to start a clay build-up from scratch now.

The effort that was put into this helmet wasn't just eyeballing either. We've got a few good men that have been able to see the real deal up close and personal, for the first time EVER. Without Plexiglas, and laser measurements. With a few sneaky traditional measurements , and a great 3D video, and plenty of niiiiiiice new pics, I think it's a great alternative to the real helmet. Now, I'm not as full of myself as "some" of you might think It's still a "Fan-Made" helmet. Always will be. It is, what it is, as they say. But I don't think there will be ANY disappointment. The whole idea of this project wasn't to try to re-invent the wheel. But more to just capture the "essence" of what we all have in our mind's eye of the real prop. How we perceive what we saw in the movie. Perhaps even as bold as making those that saw the real prop at C4 feel as if though they'd have to give it a HARD second look to tell that the FPH isn't it I thought, if it can give you that fuzzy feeling, where you can say to yourself "Yeah?, Yeah! That's how I remember it" ! Then I've done what I set out to do.

I hope this answers the most popular Q&A. As Alex already stated, this master is not in a finished state. I still have a couple of more tweaks, and refine the finish before it can be molded. I will be finishing it this weekend, and preparing to mold it. Time is REALLY short on this project, so it won't be long, I assure you.

Answers to other pertinent details, such as availability you might ask? Well, as with all of my projects, I will be recouping some of my R&D, and sweat equity. So I will make a few reasonably available if there is interest.

On one final note, there is another potential point of possible interest that should be noted. It appears (as of right now) that there will be machined aluminum ears (own sculpted ear masters for the FPH) made available at a VERY reasonable additional cost, if there is interest Details to follow.

Thanks for everyone's kind words and support. It keeps me motivated !

    FP

    **EDIT**

Thought I'd share a few pics I had too. These were taken right before I sent the master off to Alex, Justin, and Jason. An interesting perspective that hit me in just the right spot

Take note, that the "Waver" in the brow, DOES EXIST. The guys forgot to mention that it is in fact there. But it was evident when seeing the exhibit prop, that the "Waver" is not nearly as pronounced as we've believed. PArt of it is how the helmet was painted, believe it or not. Because of the ledge on the top of the brow, there was silver paint slopped up there onto to that ledge, giving it a more pronounced appearance, because the rest is red.

I would be extremely impressed if you could offer a set of machined aluminum ears for less than what your selling the bucket for..

. . . Oh, I think there might be just the smallest shadow of interest from 1 or 2 folks.

Well when the MR ahelmet arrives all of your questions will be answered and you'll have a metal set of ears with it to boot. It's a laser scan off a real helmet.

Amen to that! I'm not too proud to say that I'll own an MR myself !

Speaking of, thought I'd get the party started on the gallery I spoke of earlier. The follwing is the first pic I took in the project. Or in the first set anyway. I had already cut the dome in one direction and put it back together, and started shaving the ears off. But it's as clear as day, that it's an MSH2 (Ears on version), the dent doesn't lie. Oh, and the overly wavey brow.

The rest of the images can be found here. they're in the process of uploading, as their is approx 200 of them. SO if they're not all there initially, they will be soon. Ithink I've even got more to come. I'm still digging around for all of them

    FPH PICS

    Enjoy

I was in the room when Mr. Fett was being put into position, but prior to the unpacking it was clear that the helmet was arriving first class while the rest of the costume arrived crated. Here is a pic that I snuck while I was in the room.

So they just brought the whole shebang in in one huge crate??? That's pretty wild!
His face reminds me of a sideways version of Bele and Loki from that old Star Trek episode.
    (Yes, I like Trek stuff, too. . . )

Ok, small update. Let's call it a "pre- update". I'll be posting a full write up tomorrow.

The short of it is this ... while the helmet was in route back to me from Spidey's house, it had an unfortunate "accident" in transit with our uber reliable United States Postal Service. I took a few pics of the damage. To say the least, it was crushed. But not beyond repair I took a few pics of the damage that I'll post with the official update.

The good news, is the project is still a go ! I wasn't sure for a week or so while I worked on repairing it, so we figured it best to keep our mouth's shut until it was clear as to if it could be repaired properly or not.

The molding process begins this coming week ... it should take me the better part of the week to do this between everything else that's going on. I've also had a couple of other commitments that were pressing as well, so the postal blunder just set everything back a couple of weeks. I just finished a couple of customer projects that were promised, as well as an interesting little "300 Spartan" project/collaboration with our very own "Seeker". There was a deadline involved, and it was promised quite sometime ago ... so I had to drop a few other "Balls" per say to get make that a reality.

So, stay tuned ... pics to come, I'll even take some pics of the molding process and make them avilable later on the site. Good time to do a casting tutorial. Although that could shoot me in the foot, teach the world to recast this new helmet? (just kidding)

Thanks for hangin in there guys and gals. And to those waiting on earpiece masters ... they're still comin. You know who you are

I think no insurance company can pay enough to cover this awesome project.
Itīs like trying to calculating a price for the lost Atlantis.

This is a work of art. And this is lookinmg like an expensive late summer/early fall for me. Has a price been determined for this bad boy?

Is it much bigger than the SgtFang? Need a bigger bucket for my melon....

Re: NEW!! Fettpride Bucket aka "FPH" !!

    Heya Guys !

Sorry it took so long - AGAIN Everytime I turn around something else grabs my attention ... I think I've got adult ADD !!

So here are the pics I promised from the end of this last week, broken helmet, broken heart

No bigee ... the very last pics shows what it looked like about 4 days ago, repaired and on it's way to a finish coat before molding commenced YESTERDAY !!! Whoo Whoo !!!

It doesn't look as bad in the lics I'm sure. HOWEVER ... it was BAD. Mainly because it was briken at the most important places, and in the hardest places to fix in th efashion that it was designed or intended before the post office whooops !

So, more updates to come. I would have liked to have these ready for the DC goers to wear, but I think I've blown that now, there wouldn't be enough time to paint one up However, I may be able to produce a casting before then, that someone will be able to take with them there for the TDH croud to check out ... that's what I'm shooting for anyway !

Thanks for everyone's patience ... I'm workin as hard as I can given the circumstances and chaos
