Looks good so far!
Discussion on NEW DP 95 WIP within the Boba Fett Helmet forum, part of the Star Wars Original Trilogy Bounty Hunters category; Looks good so far!
Looks good bro now get some lark gray on that bad boy.
Amazing work ! can't stand to see next steps
Thanks guys...Gonna work on masking some more silver this evening
Alright guys- Finished masking the silver and layed the lark grey. Here are some shots in the natural light. Next, the 1943 then kill stripes
Dynamic- Thanks for the in depth pics! I'm new to all this and recently acquired a lid (my 1st purchase) off the bay for a whopping $20. Figured even if it was junk it would be a great test piece. Through my research, I think it's a DP 96 that some one started on. They filled in the print on the back and primed it grey, so I'm not sure. I have been tormented by which way to paint, topical or layered and your pics and posts have given me the confidence to do attempt a layered application. Keep up the great work! You're an inspiration for us newbies!
Dechels - Welcome to TDH! Dynamic will be a great resource for you and your paint-up, as will many other talented individuals here. He (Dynamic) has really established himself as an AWESOME painter in the past several months.
Good luck with your first lid. If you catch the bug (as we all have) I'm sure there will be MANY MORE in your future!!
OBrother- I'm sure I will. It seems like I scourer the boards non stop in my spare time, or not so spare ... I'm finally ready to get my feet wet on a lid. Can anyone here point me in the right direction for the masking fluid? I went to Hobby Lobby at lunch and wasn't quite sure what I'm looking for. I think I saw that someone used tooth paste? Does this work?
Thanks for the lead! I saw the "liquid frisket" and wasn't sure that was correct. I'll take pics of my progress and post them as soon as my "newbie" status is lifted! Thanks for the help. Curious what you used/ color for your visor?
Amazing job man, I'm just about done with my first ever painting job on a DP97, I know is a ****** helmet but think is the best way to practice your painting, specially when you have never done anything like this in your life, is nice to see it come alive...
Have a couple of rookie questions too:
1. How much do you wait after the masking dries to apply the next layer?
2.Do you help the drying process of the paint (hair dryer) or just let it dry by itself?
I realized 3 things about painting.... 1. I have no patience for letting stuff dry. 2. Not letting it dry properly can mess the masking.... and 3 I need to learn to use a stencil to have a more accurate damage design....
Keep up the great job and keep posting pics...
Another for pistolpete if I may, for the stencils/accurate damage design- carbon paper works great for tracing your stencils onto the helmet.
Thanks armydad I will give it a shot on my next lid, I have another DP97 in line for practicing before my ASOK budget arrives....Another for pistolpete if I may, for the stencils/accurate damage design- carbon paper works great for tracing your stencils onto the helmet.
Dude, now that I can see those pics of yours on a bigger screen instead of on my phone all I have to say is WOW. That lid is looking fantastic and you should be proud, and just wait until you lay that green layer down and start removing the masking fluid from the cat scratch. I will tell you right now it is going to blow your mind. As always bro keep up the good work and I cannot wait to see this bad boy in person.
Impressive work! you're a talented painter!
Ok guys- Rule number 1...When using a Pasche airbrush be sure to hold the paint bottle into the spicket

Hey be happy it was the paint jar and not the Lid!!
Alrighty...Were getting close guys! Here is the silver damage on the dome revealed minus the kill stripes and weathering ofcourse. Some are outside w/ natural light courtesy of sunny california, and some are indoors. Im pretty pleased w/ it, let me know what you guys think.

Looking real good Brian, I guess you'll be doing the ears next
Nice work sir! Maybe a fraction too much silver damage around the dent, but thats pretty minor. Other than that, a very nice looking paint job. Dont stress too much about the ears, esb ears are fairly straightforward m'man :-)
You have done well my friend, get on them ears
Ok guys- Things have been a tad slow as far as lid progress however, I was in the presence of my master jedi deadland lastnight working on the stripes. Going out to lay the reefer yellow as we speak! Pics coming soon. Once this is done I will only have the ears to complete...then as soon as chris gets his amazing armor out to me ill be handling that
Alrighty- Here we are w/ the stripes...deadland was right on as the reefer is very hard to judge when sprayed.
Looking good bro you are almost at the finish line now you just need to get to work on those ears!!
Lovely mate, the killstripes really bring the whole paintjob together, dont they? in accuracy stakes, I found when looking wt the reference pics and doing the stripes on mine, that the gap in between each stripe is about 2/3rds the size of each stripe. I had some measurements, but cant remember them exactly off hand. The gap in yours are about half the stripe, but I know your helmets sizing is differrent to mine so that may have needed to be adjusted. Now, it all sounds like pretty minor sizing stuff, but I know for mine, that little bit extra gap made it look less cluttered than some of my testing stripes that I had put a bit closer. Again, splendid job, and certainly nothing major, look forward to seeing it all completed shortly bud! :-)
This is getting better and better with each update! Just keep it coming!
Always happy to help with any advice my good man - not that your lid needs much mate, as it looks great! And I totally understand how you have to adapt to the size of your lid too. At least of I can help in any little areas that I found worked, then it all may be of some use. The ears should be fairly straight forward bud so looking forward to seeing it complete. All the best brother! :-)
Hey all- I apologize for the delay...Just busy work/life things..all great, just running low on time the last few weeks. Quick update, Fett7 has grasciously offered to sand up some of the bits on the ears and stalk for me (as they need some prep work). Once these are complete I plan to paint right away. Should have this beast done soon.
will be using thread as a guide, for my paint up when I get my lid, great work!
Awesome paint up! Your bucket is looking really impressive, I hope I can give my DP95 the same justice
Awesome dude! Beautiful work! How do you line up the stencils? I haven't got my helmet yet.. but I did my armour by eye.... but I want my helmet spot on.
Again great work mate!
WOW! You are doing awesome things to that '95er there!
Thanks Mr. Fett, still will be working on the ears hear in the near future
looking great man keep it up!
Hey mate, hows the painting going? Is it finished? keen to see it as I have my helmet and am working my way through the back panels..... *sigh*...
