Mystery Helmet vs. DP Deluxe Comparison *PICS*

I've since painted the Mystery helmet and took a couple photos next to the Deluxe.

This may have been done before, but I just received my new Mystery helmet (I love this thing!) and compared it to my DP Deluxe recast - complete with a couple of dimensions.
Width = outside edge of earpiece to earpiece.
Height = measured from the inside top of dome to chin.
Depth = back edge to front edge.
Visor Width = the width of the vertical part.

Wow, thanks for the shots. I was planning on getting one in the next couple of weeks and now seeing those comparison shots theres no turning back.

Great comparison!!! The DLX looks good on you, but the MH looks 1000 times better.
I can't wait to see it done.

TK409 seems to love the mystery, but I'd like everyone's opinions regarding the two helmets.

I am making an MLC style sculpture that is somewhere between the mystery and the deluxe (I am debating whether or not to trim 1cm off the bottom which will make it look more like the mystery, and trust me; the helmet is more than tall enough to allow a trim):

EDIT: After hearing everyone's opinions I have adjusted my sculpture. I have shortened the face and the lid. I still need to make the visor narrower:

Things I like better:
- the wider, squintier look of the top of the visor
- the narrower "visor nose"
- wider dome, face and overall look
- more flare
- slightly longer face

I like the flair on it, it fits his shoulder width better. I also like the narrwoer (is that a word ) of the visor, it seems to fit the look of the rest of the visor better.

That is a great helmet, I love mine too.

Wow! The Mystery helmet looks really nice. I thought it's origins were ROTJ but it looks very ESB'ish to me.

Can't wait to see it painted up.

I say it to myself all the time, the bucket is what makes the suit. You could have the most impressive suit from the neck down, but if the bucket dosn't look good as far as it's size and shape, it throws the whole thing off....

IMO That IS the main focal point of any costume.

I can't say enough about my Mystery Helmet! Never going back to DP again!

I also have the DP Deluxe recast, and these pics have convinced me to PM SgtFang.

Although, the flare of TK-409's DP doesn't look as good as the one I got. Is it possible that the flare on my casting was tweaked a little? I'll have to measure widths tonight...

Wow! I never thought there'd be THAT much difference! Are you sure your old one is a DP Deluxe recast and not a DP '95 recast?

The mystery helmet is a very nice piece and I am happy to own one. Has a nice shape to it and is overall
much nicer than a DP DLX. The only question I have is the range finder ear piece which is too large? You
can see it on TKs helmet in the first shot the way it hangs below. Not a big deal, just odd…

I didn't even notice that until I started assembling it and then I didn't know which one was more accurate. I just need to pop it off and sand it down. Here's a ref photo:

Just do a search for Mystery Helmet and you will find the info of it's origons..
It has nothing to MLC and MLC2.....
There are some FS in the Cargo hold as well.

Just wanted to pop in and give everyone an update, a few things have came up in the last couple days to bog me down a little.
1. My drivers licence expired at midnight Monday/ Tuesday, and I'm going to have to bum rides to the shop and post office till I can get it renewed. (Hopefully Thursday the 25th.)

2. The mold for the RF topper split the last time I used it, and I'm making a new one now. (it was getting rattier than I like to use anyway)

3. Still waiting for the visors, but I'm expecting them hopefully by Friday.

Yeah, got that taken care of as soon as I could get out. I didn't have any paperwork on me with the "new" address, so it still has the "old" one, (the County gave us all new addresses last year for better 911 response) so if I get pulled over, I'll have to explain that, but everything else is cool.

I've been sending them out every couple of days since getting my license back, two at a time (hehe, more than that and they give you dirty looks in the P.O. line :p) I'll be heading up to the 24 hour P.O. at the airport tonight w/ two more, and snagging more boxes while I'm there. Right now, I'm caught up with paid customers and am actually one helmet kit ahead. I should have all the paid ones sent out by Thursday.

The mold is starting to go- a peanut size chunk came out of the flat spot where one of the ears attach last night, which I'll be dremeling off before sending any future castings out, but when the molds get bad enough that I can't send a presentable casting out, I'll be retiring it, unless I can get at least 10 more people who'd want one. Then I'll go ahead and make a new mold. I'm going over tomorrow night and pull some more, and will keep doing them till something major happens like a big tear on the main helmet, or part of the visor rips out.

Don't worry too much, I've learned over the years, that my ideas about what's acceptable to send out, are fairly high- I sent some Starship Troopers stuff to someone a few years ago, and "I" thought they looked like ****, and was already apologizing for them before they arrived, and when they buyer got them he was like "What are you talking about?!?!" "these are fine!" Basically, I look at a piece before I send it out and ask "Would "I" be willing to build this up?" and so being pretty lazy myself, most of the stuff that goes out doesn't need too much clean-up at all.

I got one out, but I had to bring yours back and put it in a non-USPS box since you're in Canada. (my fault entirely- I'm having brain farts left and right today.) I'll have my wife drop it off on her way to work tomorrow. I'll PM you your tracking number here in a second.

[EDIT] D'OH! I can't do that either- Delivery confirmation doesn't go out of the states either. I'll have to send you the insurance or customs number when my wife get's home.

I receieved my cape USPS Global Priority Mail with no problems what so ever and it was sent from Indiana. That was sent last week and took all of 2-3 days to get here. I'm sure it wouldn't cost that much to utilize this method.

But, ship it however you feel will get it here safetly.

That looks really good!! It is amazing how the bucket totaly changes the overall look of the costume. It looks 1000% better the DP bucket you had, it makes your suit look totally different.

TK409: **** nice job bud and yes Lynn is correct, it makes things look waaaaaay different. Can hardly wait to get mine shipped. Where did you purchase yours from if you don't mind me asking? I seem to have problems getting stuff shipped up here to Canada as evidenced by some posts in this thread.

SGTFANG: You know I'd pay a little bit extra to have it shipped via a more secure method so that I can track that it has at least departed the United States. This prevents anything from getting lost in the mail or misplaced as well as eases my piece of mind.

What I'd like to know is: will there ever be a smaller version of the mystery helmet, in the vein of the MLC 2? I keep reading about how huge this thing is, and I'm a pretty little guy. I'd love to have one, but I don't want my head swallowed. :p

Hello guys,
I`m in the way to make a boba costume and I will start on the helmet sculpture ...There are a lot of different versions, but I think I will decide between the Mystery and Deluxe, but since I´m not a tall guy, a big helmet will not look good

I will make a proportional smaller helmet like DP maybe a bit more bigger, but also a real size one.

So I need some measures references like the Trooper TK409 above, to start making this.
Also would be great any suggestions from you guys.
