Thanks guys, I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of selling a few of these to help out with the holiday expenses. I won't be doing many of these, because I don't want to get on Rubies radar, so this might be your only chance to get one.

    PM me for details

Yeah, for some reason, I've never been able to get gelcoat to cure in the mold right. It's good stuff though- it's the same stuff used by the Star Trek prop shop and has a nice strength and flex to it. The finished helmets are comparable to the DP CAs as far as strength goes.

I thought it was, it matched the resin drip and chipped visor front exactly....

Sarge.... what color blue did you use for around the visor????

Try cutting and pasting in the URLs and see if it works. The mystery helmet is all mine. I make them myself.

    To recap:
Roughly 3 years ago, I bought a rough, primered, fiberglass Fett casting off eBay from a "KBoyette". At the time, the price was right, I knew I could make it nice, and it looked good.
I just took for granted that it was probably a DP Deluxe recast, but as I set about cleaning it up, and started having to really look at the details to repair them right, I started noticing more and more discrepancies-
The DP visor was shortened by roughly a 1/2" on either side; Mine went all the way back.

The DP's had pre-done battle damage- scratches, bumps etc. Mine, while rough, had no real pattern to it's texture, and was more indicative to me of a well used mold that's surface was nearly worn out, rather than deliberate damage.
Also, it was noticeably larger than any of the other Fetts I'd seen.

Finally, around January or February last year, something in me ganged up and said "ASK AROUND about this thing", so I posted a thread on the RPF called "Sarge's "Mystery Helmet", asking people what they thought it was. After a week or so of debating, someone, who's probably forgotten more about SW armor than I'll ever know, posted that he knew what it was, and that my original was one of 10 bootleg copies that were made by Don Post employees while they had an original film used helmet in their possesion for laser scanning. This was for the development of the DP Deluxe Boba.
I was amazed to hear this, and of course patted myself on the back for having a good eye.- When I bid on the auction, I had no idea what it was, I just remember looking at the pics and thinking "Yeah, I like the proportions on this one- it LOOKS like Boba!"

So anyway, when this all came to light, I was in the middle of getting ready to mold the helmet anyway for a group costuming effort- Me and a few other guys were planning to do a group of custom Mandalorians for CEL 2.
The aforementioned authority on the helmets lineage, got ahold of me in the meantime, and he was so certain of it's origin, that he offered me $500.00 for the first KIT out of the mold! That was good enough for me, and I started referring to them as 2nd gen copies of a film used helmet.

So, like I said earlier, I don't really want to do many of these, for worry of drawing Rubies unwelcome attention, but Christmas Season is upon us and ol' Sarge needs some shopping money! This will probably be your best chance to get one of these- if I ever offer them again, it will probably only be to select people, that I'm on a first name basis with.

The "light blue" was Ford Engine Blue, (HAD to get that in there SOMEWHERE) the "Dark Blue",
I'll have to look up again- I do remember misting black over it though.

Ok, Propane is eating us alive, so I have two helmet kits ready to go out within 3 days of recieving payment.
The price has dropped to an even $200.00, but you have to supply your own RF stalk from RA or BKBT.

    You still get:

Full size and authentic Helmet shell
    all earpieces
    RF top
    Dark green welding visor.

See my earlier posts for a more detailed description, lineage of the kit, and photos.

    Thanks!

I roughly measured the widths of both my Mystery helmet and my Movie size helmet and they are only about 3/8 to 1/2 of and inch off from each other (mostly because of ear width), you add more flair and Sarges won't look too good.

Well, it's pretty flared already- gotta remember, when you put the earpieces on, you're going to gain about 1/2" width on either side.
But, if you still want to do more, you could heat the helmet up with a hairdryer or heat gun, and maybe place a piece of wood or something, cut to the desired length, in between the flat, ear spaces till it cooled.

Here is my move size helmet comared to the mystery helmet.

It is not that much smaller then the move size helmet, it is bigger than a GF helmet and DLX.
You wouldn't want it any more flared and it is comarabe to the movie size helmets flare.
It is really one SWEET helmet guys....... You won't find many nicer.

I'll try to get pics of what's done so far ASAP- After all this, I still haven't gotten around to getting a charger and battery for my digicam, but next time I go to the shop, I'll see if the owner can snap some pics for me. It still needs the kill stripes, and some zinc chromate splattered on, and the visor and RF mounted, but looks pretty good as is.

[UPDATE] Two are shipping out tomorrow or Tuesday for those waiting, and the resin for the next batch is finally on it's way. PM me with any other questions.

Honestly, I don't know- "I" think it looks like an ESB sculpt once it's all put together, but some people who are better versed in the difference between the two helmets think it looks more like a ROTJ.

The only pic I have online so far, is the Jango conversion on page 1 of this thread, so I'll let y'all judge for yourselves.

I just felt the need to add a Sarge endorsement. I got my helmet from him a couple of weeks ago and it's a beaut! There will be way less prep that needs to be done before painting than with fiberglass helmets I've done in the past. Problem is I do all of my work in my garage, and at's been a tad cold in there lately. Painting will have to wait until a spring thaw. Now, if I could only get my hands on an aluminum rangefinder, I'll be set!

Hey, thanks for the kudos guys! I don't think I would have made it through the Winter without your help!

Right now, I'm one helmet kit away from being caught up with everyone and I should be able to do a couple more next week.

Also, here's FINALLY a shot of my personal ESB Helmet-

It still needs it's RF installed, and the kill stripes put on the side, but I'm pretty happy with it so far!

According to Chronicles, that alien was one of the new ones created for the Holiday Special. They do not have him listed as one of the regular Cantina Aliens. There's a shot of him on pg. 127 in Chronicles.

Thanks man, I sculpt a few things, but the little, grinning bigfoot bust behind the right shoulder, is the only one of mine in the pic- all the other stuff is my partner Phil's work.

Sorry for taking so long to get back, I was glued to the TV most of the night. Yeah, it's the only one left and I'll be doing it tonight if I can find a cheap babysitter.

Thats why i love Ebay! Sell, sell, sell, buy, buy, buy. I have so much stuff sitting around i'll never be able to get rid of it all. In fact i bought a special edition Star Wars pinball machine by selling stuff. I can't wait to get the helmet. I just finished painting my other one and will sell it when i finish the one i get from sarge. I also almost finished my manikin by using DCB's tutorial. I just have to make the hands. I would post pics on here but they are too big for the link to put on here and i don't know how to compress them or make them smaller.

I have a pvc mannequin as well, but I changed some angles of the pipes in DCB's tutorial, so now he's leaning forward a bit, more in a "low ready" stance.

Hey guys, I just want to announce that I'll be out of the loop for a couple days- my modem got blasted in a storm about an hour after I made the last post.

I'm here at the shop now, so I'm trying to get e-mails and stuff squared away and get a couple addresses from my paypal account.

With luck, everything will be going out Monday.

Re: Mystery Helmet Kit- ANNOUNCEMENT last post.

Ok, got my new modem installed, I think I'm caught up on all my communications, and will be starting a few more helmets tomorrow. I have visors here for two kits right now, and will be ordering more as soon as one kit sells.

    Thanks!
