my process

now here is what i am planning to do your for painting my helmet. opinion is wanted---sand down---spray grey primer, wait for it to dry---sand---spray with grey spray paint, wait for it to dry---sand---spray with chrome silver---- wait for it to dry---sand---spray silver part (this is a jango fett helmet) black. Apply cuts and battle scars.

on the sand part, use wet sandpaper
the best choice to get a smooth surface

Yes...wet sandpaper works EXTREMELY well.
