My MLC ROTJ

Well, after a week of painting, she's pretty much done. Still have a few details like the circut board and a final dull coat, but overall I'm very excited. This bucket is huge! I knew the MLC was big and I'm glad. I can wear glasses comfortably under this. Now I need to figure out what to put inside (in the ways of padding so it dosen't wobble). The visor is just taped in for now, it needs a little trimming before installation. I have a Rubies as well and I will post some size comparison pics later if any are interested. Comments, concerns always welcome. Couldn't have pulled it off without all of the reference here on this site.(y)

i'm not really familiar with MLC helmet, did it come ready for painting? or u still need to do trimming? esp on the T-visor area and the small holes behind the helmet?

overall, it looks good. (y)

Nice work. In regards to what to put inside to prevent bobbling, I suggest either hard-hat liner, or just some padding.

One little note: maybe it's just the camera flash, but the kill stripes appear to be the wrong color. It looks they're yellow (the color they are in ESB.) They should be more of a reddish/orange in ROTJ. I'm using this thread for reference:

I have an MLC. The visor comes cut out, as well as the back for the venting. It comes pretty well ready to paint.

I totally agree with Jimmy. I think if ya rework those kill stripes you have a great looking ROTJ......and there is nothing better than a

Thanks for the comments! The helmet came just as you see it in the first pics. It was very clean and ready to paint. The kill stripes are actually more orange than they appear in the pics. The helmet was sitting under a strong florescent light. I used no flash. I used the layer painting technique, used some masking fluid from a local hobby shop. It was really fun to work with (except for all of the little paint flecks I have all over my clothes). I think I will try the batting helmet rig. How do I attatch it to the interior of the bucket? Glue? Will it hold?:facepalm

Some of us have used velcro with a hard hat liner so that way you can adjust it up or down if needed. If you use a hard hat liner you may have to put it in crooked to compensate for the weight of the range finder.

I have 2 MLCs and the one I troop in I used some camping mats cut them up stacked them and glued them in. It is a big helmet and has plenty of room for fans and the like! I would suggest that these be for thos 6'1" and taller tho.....

Absolutely. If you are 5'9" or so, this helmet would not be for you. One would look like a bobble head. My only complaint was that it came with hollow "ears" . They fit perfectly but they were hollow in the sense that they were like a canoe. This made attatching them very difficult. There was not enough surface area to place glue or use a screw. I had to glue a piece of wood inside the left ear, then glue that wood to the bucket itself. Can anyone teel me by looking at my helmet if it is a MLC1 or MLC2? I am not entirely sure. Thanks!

You have spoken and I have listened. I went home for lunch and brushed on some darker orange. Is it better to do the visor before or after rigging some interior head support?

I'll put some more pics up tonight. Got the RF on and circut board in back. I'll put my Rubies up next to it also so those not familiar with the MLC can see it's MASSIVE GLORY......

I would suggest putting the visor in before the interior head support. That way, the interior head support will not interfere with the way the visor is glued (or however you're planning on rigging it) to the helmet.

O.K. I think I've fixed the kill stripe color. Better? I also have placed my 2002 Rubie's next to the MLC for size comparison (the Rubie's has obviously been modified a bit).
