My helmet has warped!

    My helmet has warped!

Hello all! I've been a long time lurker and hadn't wanted to post until I had something to show.

A few months ago, I purchased a budget Boba bucket from Asok and have since shelved it due to lack of time to work on it. I just picked it up to discover it has warped considerably.

It's been stored in the house at room temperature for the past two months. Is there anything I can do to try and fix it or am I out of luck?

    Your help is much appreciated!

You can heat it up and reshape it. Just heat it up slowly with a heat gun, take your time and get it back to shape...then run cool water over it to help it set back up.

Main thing is take your time while you do it.

    My helmet has warped!

I agree on the heat issue. I have never had one warp either. Either it was in a hotter place than you thought or something was laying on it putting pressure on it for a long time.

But you should be able to fix it.

Yea i agree...the heat would have to be considerable to have that happen, even if just for periods of time. If the summer months past with it laying on its side like that, that could have caused it. Ive had it happen to Vader faceplates made of resin. Just something to be aware of after you fix it to prevent it happening again after its all painted n such

At any rate, it can be fixed like was mentioned above. Maybe set it on the opposite side for a while or while gently heating. But yes, you can fix it!

It would appear my helmet was not stored where I thought it was. I had left it with a friend, and only recently have I discovered it was stored in a garage. We live in Vegas, and summers are definitely hot over here. It was basically hanging out in an oven.

I just let it sit in the backyard for a few minutes and gave it a bit of pinching and it was back to normal. No need for a heat gun when you have mother nature!

I feel you dude. The only time I've spent out west is a family Vegas trip a few years back and a Utah ski trip last year. It's definitely different but both suck... I just hate how muggy the air feels during the summers here.

I agree with heat gun method. Ive been doing a fair amount plastic shaping for armour etc and patience is the key. I just work and hold the pieces to cool naturally without water though.

I just completed a move and my helmet (same make - Asok's CC) looks pretty bad, too. Just a week in the moving truck really messed it up. I think it is fixable if I could get a heat gun.

Glad to see that there are options, though.

Yeah, I have to agree. I lived in CA for a short time and it wasn't all that bad. But FL here in the middle of the summer... ugh. You can't do anything without sweating. I check my mail and a river runs down my back.
