My attempt at painting my BM DONE!!!!!!
Well I have been on the boards for a while and just never had the chance to buy a bucket let alone the time to paint one. Well I finally had to funds to do so and I purchased one of DAz’s great buckets and boy was it worth the wait. This thing is a great piece and I can only hope to do it justice with my paint job.
I have never really been good with drawing or painting but I think with the help of RS paint colors and Count Dookies stencils, and with the wealth of knowledge I have gained over the years from all of the fine paint ups that have been on this board I think I have a good chance of putting together something decent and I just may surprise myself!!!!! One can always hope.
I look forward to everyone’s suggestions, tips, and please let me have it as I really want this to turn out great.
The first thing that I did was wiping down the whole helmet and then prayed it all light gray. I figured I would start off on the left ear as it is a small piece and this would be my first time using an air brush to paint anything. So with that in mind I used the templates that I had to resize (thanks Shock Nurse!!) and then masked out the light gray areas. Once I had the light gray areas all masked out I then sprayed caboose on the left ear. Once the paint was dry I removed the masking fluid to reveal the gray damage. I then masked out the gray and caboose damage and sprayed the left ear with POG.
Alright everyone let me have it!!!! Just from what I can tell some of the damage is off a bit and I still need to go through and make some of it a little bit more pronounced by scratching away some layers with the old compass tip.I also noticed that I will need to touch up some areas as some of the paint came up when removing the masking fluid.

Don't sell yourself short.. you've done an excellent job and off to a wonderful start!
Are you going to paint the white part or use a decal?

Thanks, but so far this is all that I have painted. Below are a few pictures of the other sides with just the light grey layer.

Thanks for the encouragement , I just want to do it right and not a half *** job if you know what I mean.
As for the white section I plan on painting it. I hope that tonight I will be able to get it sized out and masked out that way when I get home from work tomorrow I can get it painted and finish up the rest of the touchup on it.

Re: My attempt at painting my BM
Well did some work this weekend and painted on the horse shoe to the left ear. Personally I do not think it turned out all that well but I will let you guys be the judge as I am often way to harsh on myself.

Re: My attempt at painting my BM
Well I got a chance over the weekend to get some work done on the bucket. I first masked out the Light gray area and then sprayed down the silver. I then masked out the silver damage and then sprayed Reefer Gray. I hope I will get some time this week to mask out the Reefer Gray damage and then spray the concreat.
As always let me know what you think.

Re: My attempt at painting my BM
Thanks to everyone for the compliments I really appreciate it, and i just have to say that man this is one hell of a process. Over the past couple of weeks I have been able to get a little done here and there and now have the upper and lower cheeks done. They did not come out to bad but I will need to clean up some lines to get them a little more crisper which i will do once I get everything done. Here are some pictures and the next stop is the mandies and boy am I not looking forward to that!!!!!:lol:lol
-
Re: My attempt at painting my BM
hey, looking really, really good brother! great job! and ya, be prepared to go crosseyed, my friend...:wacko ;)
-
Re: My attempt at painting my BM
Yeah I am not looking forward to it. Guess I will just take my time layer by layer.
-
Re: My attempt at painting my BM
that is right, sloooooowly...watch your intervals, and spacing...make reference points as you go...there is a certain amount of damage that goes in a specific amount of space, and if you get previous damage too big, you run out of room...:thumbsup
i started with the silver first...finely doing that damage, following Dookie's stencils...then i added the grey, then came back with the maroon...keep up the progress pics!! looking good brother! :cheering:cheers

Re: My attempt at painting my BM

Re: My attempt at painting my BM
Man has it been a while since I have been able to touch this thing, but the heat this last month did not help either. With that said it was a little bit cooler this weekend the low 90's so I decided to get some paint on this bad boy. I got the silver the the Grey down and will be working on masking out the grey so I can put the Maroon either Tuesday or Wednesday. My plan is to have the mandies done by this weekend time permitting :lol
Well enjoy the picks and let me know if there is anything that needs fixen.

Re: My attempt at painting my BM
Hey deadland,
you have a good eye for the details. I am using the layered technique too and it´s by far the best looking way for any helmet. IMO
The mandibles look very good so far.
Question: did you use some lighter grey on them? because normally they are lighter than the dome e.g.
Curious how the end result will look like.
Great job so far bro!
Manuel

For the first layer on the entire bucket I put down RLM 76 Light Gray from there on the mandies I masked out that damage and then sprayed bright silver then masked out that damage and sprayed Reefer Gray. Netx step will be to mask the gray, sliver and the other gray and then spray the Maroon.
Hope that helps.

Re: My attempt at painting my BM
well git a chance to finish up the mandies over the weekend and last night. I did get a little bleed through so I will have to go back and touch up those areas. Once I got the masking fluid pealed off I just could not help myself and temp added the visor and othe little item to take a few pics.
when my son saw it he was like daddy is that for me:) I told him no felt bad doing so but themn I told him I would make him one next.
So what does he say to me this morning, daddy I don't want a Boba Fett helmet right now I want Captain Rex one. I guess Ihave my work cut out for me.:lol:lol
Any way here are the pics..... and next step the dome.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and thank you DAZ for supplying such a great bucket to paint it has been fun and a challenge.
Well last week I got a chance to do some more work and have the dome just about done. Just need to add the kill stripes which I will try to dot his weekend. Then all that is left is some touchup painting in a few spots weathering and then a dulcoat and that should do it.
Well on to the pics

WOW:suprise thanks a lot Spidey that means a great deal coming from you:thumbup:thumbup if it were not for your paint ups and TF's, RS paint list, CD stencils and all of the reference photos and everyone else here at the TDH this thing would have turned out dam ugly!!!! All I can wish for now is the Seeker seal of approval!!!
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Well during the week I was able to get the kill stripes painted and added a little weathering to the RF stalk and did some touch up painting here and there. With this long wekend ahead I should have all of the final weathering done and I will call this bad boy done.
Enjoy the Pics!!!
