Mustard?

Mustard is delicious! One day, hot dogs will be used as currency. Nothing like a hot dog slathered in mustard, chased with a tall, cool Budweiser. If you were starving to death, and you were made of hot dogs, would you eat yourself?...a simple question - Harry Carey

I just KNOW the wife is going to look at me funny, buying a couple of bottles of mustard. Any preference here? Does one brand work better than another? heheheheh
Pardon me....Do you have any grey poupon? LMAO!!!

I just gave it a try today and i am very impressed with the results, as for preference? i bought the cheapest bottle i could (83 cents)

I just picked at with my fingernail and a knife tip and it didn't seem to want to lift the silver up too. I don't think there's any sort of secret to it really. Just go for it. This was my first time ever doing something like this.

Thanks. Nope no airbrush. Just spraypaint.
What color spraypaint did you use? I'm kind of color blind with reds and greens, and I've never used an airbrush so I'll be using spray paint. By the way your helmet is looking very nice. Are you going th wether it with acrylics? If you are I would recommend payne's gray over black. When it's used thickly it appears black, but as it thinned it gets a slight blueish tone that makes it appear more natural. I also like to mix that with a burnt umber to create a natural looking mud color. Anyway I'm getting off topic.

I also like the mustard technique. I had only used liquid mask prior to finding this site. For me it's easier to work with and it doesn't ruin my precious brushes like the liquid mask.

Hope you guys are right ... I just spent an hour throwing mustard all over my shoulder & knee armor ( see new thread in armor ) . The first ( chrome ) coat I used Parma liquid mask . But for the next coat I tried the mustard ;) .

I used the paints listed in this thread:http://forums.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=2896&highlight=definitive+color+list

Thanks for the tips on dirtying it up.

Ok, heres one for ya, with all the templates for armor, is there a template around showing scratch and damage locations on both the ESB and ROTJ buckets?

I used Bob Dively liquid mask when I first painted my bucket, and wasn't happy with the results. I build models all the time and have pretty good painting skills, but to see you guys who have never really worked with paint coming out with these awesome helmets...

makes me a bit envious.

Well I used Para liquid mask for step 1 on my shoulder & knee armor. Then I tried the mustard for the second stage and now I,m going to switch back . I liked how the mustard went ont . Easy to use , easy to see and fun to eat , however ..... I found it very difficult to remove . I scraped ... and I scraped .... then I scrape more , until my fingers were raw :angry . It didnt want to come off . And it took some of the paint off I didnt want . I also noticed it changed the color of the almond/cream second coat to a yellow .I have resanded the knee armor and started over :cry and will be using the para mask this time .

Ok...Heres what I do to take off the dried mustard....Wait until both paint and mustard are totally dry. Take part to sink with very hot water running..Take old tooth brush and scrub the mustard away while holding under the hot water. Rinse & repeat until complete...I find frenchs yellow mustard will come of very quickly using this method. :)

You know I thought about running some warm water over it , but i thought it might affect the paint .Oh well . maybe I'll try again on the collar armor .Thanks

Mike

Also, mustard is not the only thing you can use. IF your find that the yellow is changing the color of your mustard you can switch to a white based item like horsey sauce...I would stay away from egg based ones tho as they tend to pull the paint up with them.
