MR Helmet

I thought I heard on a YouTube blog(Sharpys Boba Fett Roundup) that MR is getting out of the Star Wars market and selling their "molds" to another company to pick up the line.
I might be wrong or misunderstood what he said.It has been afew weeks since I saw the clip.I am proably wrong.
I am not trying to be right just looking to see if anyone else has heard of this.

MR is losing their liecense to sell Star Wars products at the end of the year. They are allowed to make new products until that time. At the end of the year they are no longer allowed to make new products. They then have until March to sell off all of their remaining stock of Star Wars products. After March they are not allowed to sell anything Star Wars related even if they have stuff they made years ago sitting in the warehouse.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!
If we all work together maybe they will have a "furniture businessclose out" style sell."EVERYTHING GOT TO GO!!! no mater the cost"
I know..I know wishful thinking

Still burns me they insisted on putting that PP3 scratch on the Left outside cheek in the photo. Also notice the taper down the centerline of the faceplate that is a prime example of how these helmets can look different based on construction method..the ROTJ does this too.

This helmet is looking pretty nice. Being that I am more of a stormtrooper fanatic, can anyone comment on how screen accurate this helmet is (shape, materials, construction, paint). I know the paint job is pretty accurate because of Lee's work on it. Any idea if the taper down the faceplate centerline will be corrected during the production run Lee?

The helmet was created based off a digital scan of the ESB Hero helmet... or so we have been told from sources at MR. I dont believe it is off the Hero my self but regardless it is from a digital scan of one of the screen used ESBs. The scan was then "Printed" and cleaned up and altered to remove all the cracks and dings that were on the ESB. A scan is just that, a scan and has been altered since the scan was made to be more in the light of what MR felt the average collector would want to see. So its an idealized version of the real thing but scale wise should be fairly accurate.

MR has a Customer Service Account over on the rpf, I wonder if they would have some sort of garage sale...hmm maybe time to pm that board account over there...

Close, but not quite. The helmet scanned was the PP3. MR thought it was the ESB Hero at the time of scanning (serves them right for not having a TDH member helping them out). The scan was not purposefully altered as much as one might think. Most people get the impression that digital scannning is like photocopying in 3D. It simply is not. The helmet was "cleaned up" very little but there were issues in a number of areas that were "corrected" such as the triangles in the forehead, the keyslots, etc. The corrections... well... again... wish they had someone who knew a little more about the helmet helping them with this part of the process. The nicks in the helmet were smoothed over and 3 ridiculously exaggerated nicks were added in the place of the originals on the prototype helmets. Whether those nicks are on the final helmet or not is yet to be seen. I hope not as they looked ridiculous. The helmet is in VERY good scale. The RS ears fit it perfectly without alteration. If I recall correctly, the ears that the prototypes had were a bit undersized. Again, I hope this was corrected for the final production helmet. Having seen the RS helmet and the MR, I think most fans, even most members of this board, would want the MR helmet. It is very clear and sharp and nice and blows anything I have seen out of the water in terms of just being a nice helmet with lineage back to the original. However, it does have its issues and the 3D scanning can only do so much so it is by no means perfect.

I knew it!!! I knew it wasnt an ESB HERO!!! hahahaha But I didnt know it was a prepro they scanned... are you sure about that... from what I understand there are only 6 Fett helmets in the archives not including the 2 on tour. None appear to be what I would classify as true Pre Pros... but I get the pre pros mixed up all the time. The PP3 is the one that looks mostly like a ESB but not quite, correct?

I was unaware that the ears on the prototype were undersized... that is bad news. This isnt a detail that I would think MR would catch.

Thanks for the info Braks.

Yes, the PP3 is painted almost identically to the ESB Hero. Here is a pic (with identifications) of the helmets in the archives aside from the ESB hero and RotJ Hero. As I mentioned in another thread, I hope to have a post up soon with an extensive listing of all we know about each helmet. From what we know, there were originally 6 fiberglass and 2 vacced helmets, although there is a question whether the two stunts in the archives are vacced or fiberglass. The "eyes" helmet is the only one we can't account for.

Yes the helmet was incorrectly scanned of a PP3 one of the reason I got pulled into working on it were the errors and lack detailed knowledge on the project. They have no clue what is right or wrong on these pieces. And I even see things added to this pieces that LFL must have forced on due to lack of knowledge becasue they thing I am wrong. We got into it a few times. I detailed most of this in a prior thread last year.
