    Mojo's Albino project

    Hiya boys and girls...
I'm after some advice from all comers? new and old....
I've decided to transform my current lid into the Albino Prepro helmet and I'm torn between cannon or a twist on cannon?

    O.k here it is...
At this moment in time I have it primed with white primer (obviously) to get the feel etc...
Now the cannon shows it to have white ears (apart) from the 'V' section section that meets on the right ear? what I'm thinking is this, to paint the ears completely white 'but' with some weathering to reveal silver/chrome beneath? not too dissimilar to ESB.
Now the interesting part? I'd like to give the lid the ESB dent damage? I don't want to reveal any greys... just to show the dent and trailing scratch... I mean that kind of head shot must leave some sort of damage?

    Pics...

You won't believe how much wet-sanding I did! I'm still undecided on cannon vs my idea?

    Hey Gav,

Wow mate that looks nice. Just a little more sanding and you are there buddy. As for the weathering, i would weather the dent and leave the rest in perfect high gloss. Just the silver around the dent would look really really good.

can't wait to see this finished, its going to look awsome

I'd also recommend go canon! I'd be very interested to see how this project turns out ... I don't see it done very often.

    Re: Mojo's Albino project

Thanks guys... Looks like the general consensus is erm.... cannon

As stated I've only the base coat down and have noticed a couple of small areas that I need to wetsand further?
This has been a great lid to work with tho as the cast was/is very crisp indeed... cheers TF
Now cannon does or does not have the circuit board in the rear? i have a couple that are already white... saves on some painting there!

What paint are you going with Gav? With all the trooper helmets Ive painted over the years I've found that Halford's appliance gloss white is a great option, really excited to see this project underway love the white pre pro fett

    Re: Mojo's Albino project

    waited for this to happen...

Well I have the correct white paint today and have wet sanded a final time...
So, just gotta tear myself away from the V3 Armour and get a good layer down and wet sand again?
Also sanded the removable ear pieces to nice 'crisp' edges and will paint and wire brush for *semi metallic* feel...

Will that do ya? (Pics to follow)

Perhaps lightly wire brush before painting then you'll get the effect in the actual resin instead of in the paint finish, that make sense? Look forward to seeing more mate, just pulling ya leg

And the 'Reds' take it... soz Ben couldn't resist?

Anyhoo... small update on this, I put down the dremel and the airbrush from the V3 Armour to apply my first coat of appliance paint to the Albino project.
I had a couple of small runs at the front section?
But it's only my first coat... back to the wet sanding process to get that really nice sheen to it!

Heres some pics... excuse the quality of the pictures...

Cheers Scott... I do need more pairs of hands tho!
I've got my Albino / FPH & V3 Armour on the go? but it does break down ok as I need a good 24-48 hrs cure time between projects?

Ben don't be sour bro? my nephew is also a Spurs fan and he was gutted with their performance?

The lid will (I hope) resemble the pre-pro Albino - 'super trooper' polished white lid with silver/metallic ears? red and green arrows... 8)

Coming from you that is a huge compliment Alex... :o
still gotta along way to go tho? more wet-sanding between coats to get that (is it a vac formed finish)
I also need to sort out some proper 'show off' pics (lighting etc ain't working)

    *update*

Ok.. more wet-sanding and yet another coat of the white appliance paint?
During the last sand I decided to sand the resin ear pieces so that they had very crisp edges...
These ears will be sprayed chrome/silver later, so I may have another update later today?

Well when its used on Jango helmets the surface has to be super smooth to get a nice shine but it could be used for a more realistic distressed metal look by getting your ears smooth and then using wire wool to gently create scratches to emulate machined effects, you apply the r'n'b then leave it for a few minutes and then buff the heck out of it with a cloth or something, I think it could look pretty good

Me too... if only to give my arms a rest!

I'm open to suggestions guys... would T-cut or similar product do the job? and I was thinking auto clear lacquer to finish?

Mt mate works in a Helicopter repair place and can get me some wicked buffing compound that they use on the screens? could do the job...

Maybe you should... off to a good start too I imagine? 8)

After your final coat of paint, and your final wet sand, leave the paint to harden for a week, then give it a going over with t-cut and it will then be shinier, than a very shiny thing.

looking good Gav mate, looking really good, wanna do mine next

    Ok..
I went to the store (Halfords) and bought my self some white T-cut and started to polish the @#~! out of this thing...

It's only a small update as under closer inspection I found a couple of 'small' areas that I wasn't happy with...

But it's looking ok so far, what do ya think?

The full-on Albino would be cool tho as here in UK (KOTE) does not have one either?

A great way to get a deep shine is lots of thin layers of paint with plenty of wet and dry sandpaper between coats, use the paper wet. I did something similar a while back and I think it ended up with around 8-10 coats.

    Nice work.

    Re: Mojo's Albino project

Cheers Daz... appreciate the input, since I found a couple of small areas that I wasn't happy with I've decided to go for another couple of coats...
It's mad, I also found a small hair line (approx 10mm) not a crack but would it go after sanding! NO.... hence more coats of paint!

Mind you all this wet sanding is killing my arms...

    And thank you WC...

    Cheers Alan...
I've little progress on this sucker as work has invaded my personal time? But I at least layed down yet another coat of paint last night and I am very happy with the tweaks I made?
I think one more wet sand and back to the polishing!

    Re: Mojo's Albino project

Cheers Rob... I have a very shiny helmet *cough* and it's looking like I hoped it would! More buffing required in a couple of areas just to get that 'bling'...

Will colour in the arrows tomorrow and shoot some pics in the sunlight just so you can see the shine?

    Ok...

    Small update...
I've buffed the .... out of this thing with T-Cut and white polishing compound! I like the look so far, just need to go over it again in a couple of areas?

I'm spraying th RF tomorrow (Black) maybe try and get a mix of chrome/silver sprayed onto the ears, then weathered with fine wire wool to give them some texture?

    Pics are not great (soz)

    Re: Mojo's Albino project

    One small update today...

I painted the ears and filled the arrows today!
When I can post some better pics you will notice that I made some surface imperfections in the ear pieces so as to look like a set of cast ears? Or at least that was the intent...
The arrows just need a little cleaning/buffing around the edges... but I am happy with the results so far...
Next to paint the RF black...
