MMGRAPHICS PAINTJOB FP PREMIUM ESB STYLE FOR CAPTAIN SOLO

Here´s the new paintjob thread for CaptainSolo´s FP Premium helmet.

This helmet gets the same style as the TF helmet I am painting at the same time ... so 2 helmets getting produced almost equally in time.

Here are first pictures of the delivery status:

The visor and the keyslots have been cut with a nice straight line. No bumps or jumps, nice and even. The first layer of primer is on too. The whole helmet has a clean even light grey surface now.

Step 2: Nice and shiny silver

The silver layer went on very nice. Absolutely even and without any bumps. Pretty nice. Next step is already in the making ... the masking fluid is being painted on while these new pics are watched.

I've started on my FP bucket - which is my first go at it. How did you get the trim so clean? While mine is fairly even, it still needs some touch up before I prime it up.

That asked, your paint is coming along nicely!

I first use a Dremel to cut all parts and then use different types of files to get the right shape. e.g. the left and right "end" of the visor ... I use a "squared" file.

Thanks for the compliments. Right now this helmet gets the awful lot of masking fluid pieces. That step is almost the most important. If the first "silver" scratches don´t line up exactly the accuracy is gone. All other layers are build on the first silver scratches. Just as a tip.

Very cool. What sort of masking fluid are you using? I picked up MasterMask (not sure if that's available in Germany), but I haven't tried it yet. There seems to be quite a few brands here in the States.

Thanks for the tips! Your work is inspiring!

I use masking fluid from Schmincke, a german brand. It´s transparent and I use some drops of blue or red color to make it semi colored. Better to stay on track then.

There is masking fluid from humbrol too ... this should also be fine. Especially if you work with humbrol colors.

So here is the long awaited update on #1.

Only two steps in one but the dark green for the back panels is going on tonight so there are more updates this week!

I plan to close it up soon so there won´t be any delays any more.

Hi mate, what images are you using as reference photos for the scratches? Oh and are you using spray paint?

Re: MMGRAPHICS PAINTJOB FP PREMIUM ESB STYLE FOR CAPTAIN SOLO

Hi JayBox325, I used images from the TDH gallery, there are tons of great photos. After some time doing several ESB paintjobs I have my own helmet as a good reference, as it is very close to the original. This way I can look at it on every angle.

I use humbrol colors and my airbrush to get the job done. Masking fluid is the key.

I have most of the paints, Can't afford to buy/learn to use an airbrush, got liquid latex, just need the main green and reference photos. :P

For the ESB helmet use "The Art of Star Wars" and the "Star Wars Celebration IV" images from the Gallery. Or you can use for reference paint stencils posted in the sticky thread "All Boba Fett Helmet Stencils And Templates".

I was thinking about using this:

    http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/b...tencils-41899/

I am trusting it's accurate. But for the dome, I think I would prefer photos as the flat image of the dome there ^ doesn't do it for me, I would rather have 4 photos; side, front, side, back. So I can visually reference and match :P

I did those stencils using the reference images from the TDH Gallery. While you will find reference images with the 4 sides you mentioned, but you'll have a hard time with the dome top scratch, because there isn't an actual image with a direct shot. Here is my helmet made with my templates and my paint stencils Making The First Rafal Works Helmet.

Sorry mmgraphics for hijacking your thread.

Yes Robert, new pictures of the almost finished helmet will be up tomorrow. Then I just need to paint the ears and insert the visor and magnets.

So we´re pretty much done bro.

Thanks for the patience, I know it takes a while now, but the end is in sight ... ^^

hi manuel, noticed you say you use humbrol paints - what red shade do you go with for the mandible red? I like your shade, but it does look differrent to the wine 73 that is often recommended - do you use a mix, is it just the photos, or do you go with something differrent entirely? cheers bud

@Major: Just a short message, the update will follow within the next hour. Just prepping some pics of zshermans helmet too and then it goes online here. This way I can update both threads.

@Jayvee: It is indeed the humbrol #73 that I use. The purple is a complete layer underneath, maybe that´s why it slightly looks different? And I use 0000 wirewool to flatten down the color. Both will maybe do the trick.

BRB in about an hour ... WITH update on #1!

Re: MMGRAPHICS PAINTJOB FP PREMIUM ESB STYLE FOR CAPTAIN SOLO

    Hi Robert,

what happened to the magnets? :-(
Hope it is fixable and nothing broken?

I am glad the helmet finally reached its goal! :-)

I always trooped in my ESB helmet without any final layer of clear coat. But you can do this to avoid bumps.
My helmet was in rain, I did sweat in it liek hell and nothing happened.
Some minor mini scratches, but thats normal.

So you can really troop with it as it is now.

    :-)

I am glad you like the helmet! And sorry for this huge delay my friend.

    Best,
    Manuel
