MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
I have been commissioned my a member here to re-do some painting on an MR Boba Fett Helmet.
this is the Signature Version.
He does not want it to look as if it is mass produced and would like it to better match the weathering on his armor & jetpack etc.
I am not completely redoing this helmet nor am I fixing the pinch, only adding to what is there and most importantly....
Fixing how the dent was painted!
MR didn't even get close when aligning the stencil over the dent.
See?

Look how "off" that dent is. Anyone else have this same problem?
so...
I masked off a small area and airbrushed the area I was gonna work with.
Then I masked where the dent is and sprayed that silver
Here is where it is now.

I still have a lot to do around the dent, but wanted to show the beginning.

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
Geez, that was way off! You'd think QC would have caught that.
I have a question, though. With those two smaller silver/gray shapes to the left of the dent, would it have been better to cover those as well? I look at them as part of the overall "dent geography."
Maybe it's the angle of the photo, but it appears that they may wind up too far from the dent itself once you repaint it.
Your airbrushed blending looks superb! Did you use an out-of-the-bottle color for that?
-
Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
I saw that too -after I posted the pics :(
They are so small, I'll just paint them green & redo that too
and yes, it's straight outta the bottle
Panzer Olive Green
feathered the edges of it to make it blend
also did a test too make sure it matched before diving in.
It is off just a tad, but it's gonna get extra weathering as per the customer's request.

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
Ah, well it's not a major change then.
The PO green looks great! Good thing MR didn't mix up some bizarre custom shades.

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
Lee says that they stayed really close to his color list.
Did some more work on it
Getting better

I'm not doing a whole helmet, no way!
If you'd use your chat function, I could get some pointers too.

The weathering on my dent is off quite a bit too...not that bad though!!! Yeah, it bugs the **** outta me!!!! I might have to do something similar. Your "fix" is looking much better!!!!

Excellent job, especially around the dent. Looks like a completely different helmet now. Weren't you tempted to remove the extra kill stripe?

Slightly different???? That's like saying Pamela Anderson looked slightly different after the boob job. Nice work Nathan. Very, very nice.

Daz,
I didn't even notice the stripes to be honest,
I wish i had though.
IF I do any more I'll paint that out of course.
Thanks for the tip.

That's the Custom mando part.

Very nice work, the subtle changes and additions really make it pop!

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
Slave1, I may be getting a set of unpainted armor (chest, back, knees, cods, collar, guantlets). Could you PM me a quote on a paint job? It'd kinda help me with deciding on the armor. The paint referb you did on the helmet looks awesome, so I know my armor would come back to me lookin great. Sorry for the threadjack.

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
Fantastic job on this. Mine is still in the package it came in from MR. I guess maybe I should open it up to see if mine is off like that. Man I would be a bit peeved since I spent so much on it from MR.

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
Just got my MR Boba bucket today and my dent is off as well. I'm definitely going to need a repaint like this soon...

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
I know this thread is very old but I would be very interested to know what technique you used to add the scratches; and also what technique to get that great "overall dirty" look. Thanks man. Looks great!
-
Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
It is old, but I have 2 sitting on the bench right now.
The scratches are topical.
Since this is just a rework, it would be impossible to do it layered.
The overall dirty look is the ol' airbrush.

Re: MASTER REPLICAS HELMET RE-PAINTING
Cool; thanks bro.
I was thinking of doing some topical scratches on mine; and some sort of gray-wash for that dirty look, probably some weathering powder as well...
worked anyway for my sandtrooper. :)
