Hello everybody!
Well I went on a little trip over to visit our friend Marrow Sun and I came home last night with some goodies! I got the opportunity to cast my own helmet, so I did!
MS was kind enough to lend his incredible painting skills to do an amazing paint job on my helmet. He went for a PP2 scheme and I think you will agree that he got it spot on! I'll let the photos do the rest of the talking...
Oh,...... what a minute,......that can't be right,......Oh! Opps! That's my old broken POS rubber Don Post helmet with the 2 hour paint job from when I was 12 years old! I keep on getting these helmets mixed up!
But seriously folks (I'll be here all week!
), I did cast up my own helmet (#10 out of the mold!) and I now have a complete kit ready to start work on. This helmet is amazing and you all will love yours. It just has the correct look that lets you know this definitely has close ties to the original helmets.
I've got the cold-cast aluminum ear pieces (which still need trimming and
a lot of sanding/polishing to bring out that metallic shine), a cute little cold-cast aluminum Borden connector, the multi-piece range finder (which looks pretty sharp!), and one of BigKidBiggerToys' slick new aluminum RF posts (thanks again BKBT!). I'll be going to town getting everything prep'ed and then I'll need to track down some paints!
For those naysayers who think that all MS is good at is pouring silicone, I have something to say to you. He can't even do that right!
His first mold for the range finder parts left silly little part lines on the pieces, so I had to sort him out and show him what he should do! We re-made those molds, so all you guys will be getting nice pieces with your helmets (unlike me who is stuck with these crappy pieces from the old mold!
). He's getting all your parts together and will be starting shipping this week, so it won't be long now for you guys! I can safely say you won't be disappointed!
All and all, I couldn't be happier with this kit! I'll be going for a film-accurate ESB paint job, and I'll be going 100% layered on the paints for that really authentic feel. I too hope to start a progress thread for this guy, if you all aren't sick of those by now!
All the best,
MJC.
