This is my first paint up thread, so be gentle!
got my Animefan Premium in last week and even though I'm stoked to get it going on, my work schedule and the rain/humidity havd been wreaking havoc on my progress.
But, I got the visor cut out and the physical damage done, so I'm at least moving the ball downfield.

Cool! Have patience, especially with humidity. It can cause weird things to happen with paint.

Yeah, living in East Texas, humidity is a way of life! I've got some plans to do some climate control on the garage with one of those portable AC's and a dehumidifier. I don't know how it will work, but I guess I'll see how it works.

Geeked out on a little range finder work tonight. De-flashed everything, got holes cleaned up, filed on the polaroid eyepiece and the clear block to get them to fit nice and clean. Tomorrow I'll drill the holes in the helmet to mount the RF parts.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the moral support. I'm waiting on decent weather to get started. Rain, humidity, more rain.

I live north of Dallas so I have similar weather. One of the biggest things around here dealing with humidity is to take long extra time between coats. The heat really helps it dry even with the humidity. Do thin layers with plenty of time in between.

It's looking good, funny you should mention humidity, I'm in Florida, and it's currently "rainy" season now. Puts a damper on things for sure

Thanks for the tip. It is for dang sure hot enough to get them dry!

Put some paint on that sucker!

Solid copy! Plan to this weekend. Been hellacious at work this week (well, the past month or two really). I actually went and bought some fine detail brushes (Princetons, thank you SuperJedi!) from Hobby Lobby today. I plan on ordering some more Humbrols tonight as well as some MM POG for lower cheeks and dome. I have decided to follow in the boot steps of our esteemed colleague, SuperJedi and go topical. Basically, I think I'm too lazy to do that much masking for the layered approach. I will do a little layering on the back panels. Let's be honest, I learned somewhere back in my past, if that wheel rolls don't reinvent it. So, using SJ's paint up for Grifter as a guide, plus all of the fabulous stencils (Thanks Raf!) and the reference photos we have, I'm going to try and make myself not get excited, to slow my roll, and do something I'm gonna be proud of. So, like anyone on a diet or workout routine, I'm announcing my goals to you guys so I can be held accountable!!! This weekend I WILL prime the helmet, and.... well... I just realized I may not have ordered concrete and the colors needed to mix the back panel green. SO!, tonight, I will order the rest of my paint, and this weekend, I will at leaf get primer on the helmet!!
We thank ya for your support!

Paint ordered...

Good plan, work always gets in the way of things that matter lol, I wouldnt have gotten mine done so fast but I lucked out and had a solid weeks worth of vacation to really hammer out some progress! Slow and easy, I found myself having to pump the breaks a few times (had to completely repaint the range finder ear cap cause I tried moving too fast.) Really interested in the topical approach, make sure to post lots of pics of the stenciling and what ever masking you do when applying the colors.

No pics, but got a light coat of primer on. Also epoxied the visor chicago screws in place. And drilled the holes for the range finder ear. Drilled the visor. Hope it fits! Paints on order, may go get some tracing paper tomorrow and start doing some stencil work.

Edit: One of the chicago screws didn't epoxy in well. Had to go get more epoxy at the store and redo it. Got another coat of primer on though.

All that careful sanding/filing on the polaroid viewfinder to get it to fit perfectly flush with the clear block... was just browsing reference images... yeah, it's not flush at all! Lesson: reference first, infer second.

Got an ear painted. I think my ratio was a little off. Then again, when you put a color next to other colors it "changes" sometimes. What do you guys think?

Most of the colors on the helmet need the other colors to look right. I had to learn to trust the color list even when it looked off. By the time everything went together they start to look right.

That's what I was hoping for. Worse case, if this still looks wrong I'll just unbolt it and repaint it after it's all said and done.

Generally the ear is a shade or two darker than the dome green, it'll come together when it's all assembled!

Exactly! That's what's bothering me. I'll know more when I can spray some POG on the dome. Bust just eyeballing it, looks a little light to me. I'm worried my measuring of paint on my 1:1 ratio was off.

re-painted the ear, it looks better in person. Lighting may be a little off. But I used reference photos when mixing and I was a lot happier with it. I can always repaint it again if I decide I don't like it in the daylight.

Got some concrete painted on! Off to a good start so far. Will hopefully have some alone time this week and will be able to do some stencil/mask work and get the rear panels greened.
