The M-DSB "Mercenary" (Boba Fett) Helmet! NEW MAKER.

DeltaSquadBoss

New Hunter
Hello everyone.
I tried to post much earlier on here but I had problems with my account and then asked for them to just give me a new one.
Most of you might be familiar with me as DeltaSquadBoss on the other forums.
My good friend Marcus and I decided that we wanted to give Fett a try. Marcus is known as the human CNC machine (as our friend Marcelo "TK 1389" calls him). He is a Master Sculptor. He sculpts entirely in clay. No practicals involved here.
What prompted us to sculpt was the fact that there were a few great lids out there but some were either not available (we're impatient) or the quality of the resincasts were not up to par. Being that we both had a background in art ( I work Hollywood and got my start in the ART Departments here) we thought "why not?" And so this is what we have...

Thanks for taking the time.

I just thought that you would like to see the process of making fan made sculpts and

helmets in general. Pictured here, is the M-DSB "Mercenary" helmet in the making.

You've seen the initial sculpts here.

You can see how cool it is to make these. Marcus the "M" in M-DSB, is scraping off

some of the left-over residue. What you see in the pic is the Fiberglass jacket used

to help keep the silicone mold in place.

You have to do both sides with the fiberglass of course.

Marcus is seen here trimming the sides of the fiberglass jacket.

LOOK MAH! No airbubbles! This is one of THE MOST important things I love about Marcus' work, he is very "a" retentive when it comes to his work. He has always hated the fact that a lot of helmet makers (excluding Marcelo and Skygunbro) do really care about what they shell out. Most makers

make the excuse "Well, it's a garage kit!"---Not Marcus, he takes pride in his work. He likes to make

all his helmets with little or no airbubbles and uses the best materials in all his works.

As much as I like your sculpt, I wander if the above comment was a generalisation? I've seen and 'own' a few makers of lids and this is 'not' the case? you say allot of makers? All of of mine were moulded and cast with no 'air-bubbles' in them... :facepalm

I can appreciate your comment and understand where you are coming from Mojo...

I'm not going to mention who's bucket I bought before, but it was riddled with airbubbles, and so brittle that it cracked the same day. That's what prompted us to make this. Marcus is a Master Sculptor, and his chops are hard to find. In fact, some of us call him the human CNC machine. Everything he does, is done from scratch in clay. No practicals involved or re-casting or re-casting "improved" versions.

I've been making models and replicas since the 90's, I've worked in Hollywood for several years in several Art Departments (not that it matters because many of you are incredible artists...and I can learn from you too).

I am aware of what's out there. The good and the bad. I can't complain about Bobamakers amazing stuff...I love his work! As a matter of fact, I was going to purchase one from him but decided to go with my Republic Commando build. Unfortunately the exchange rate didn't help either.

If I came across as arrogant, I hope you'll pardon me. I'm just very proud of this bucket and the quality. Portions of the helmet go to JUICE a not-for-profit that Marcus is involved with that keeps high Risk kids off the streets through music and dance.

Luckily, we're not in this for the money since we are blessed and successful at our jobs (and still employed, thank the maker). However, in these times, any monies are welcomed.

The first run has sold out thanks to our friends.

Second run coming soon.
*end transmission*

you be posting a pic of your finished helmet? Do you have another helmet to compare it to... FPH, SGT FANG.
I ask this cause the fett helmet is really tricky to sculpt correctly, from what I see you have a great start BUT I feel your helmet looks too cylindrical.. Also the dome looks short, plus the right ear cap area looks elongated..But again it could be how you shot your pics.

Hoping to see more. I hope you guys arn't offended by my comments, but I too went to university for fine arts and am a master in my own mind...lol

I own a FPH and use to own a Sgt. Fang, the reason I bring those two up are cause I feel the Sgt is the right size to a movie helmet while the quality of the Fph is awesome.. And if your hemet is the same size wise & quality wise.
You have a great start!

Sorry guys, it's been so crazy with work, school, and the first run that we started on another Mando Forum!

I'll be posting some more pics for all of you to see the progress on here. I wasn't trying to ignore all of you ( I just didn't set the notifications to let me know via email when peeps had posted on here...LOL).

See the history of the M-DSB "MERCENARY"
this thread (and read some of the reviews).

We took the original Boba Fett idea and ended up going for more of a generic Custom Mando bucket since we had 98% of our orders asking for that.

I wish you could actually see one of these in person because we have developed a new resin-hybrid mix and have a Chemical Manufacturer helping us produce this. It's thick but lite weight and has a very slight bend to it. So far, so good.

I'll post some of the reviews this weekend.

Our Boba should be out soon though for all of those interested in it. I would say that the "imperfections" are more subtle than most but they are still there.

Again, I apologize for not peaking my bucket in here as I should have!
Thanks!
DSB
