Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
Now that a few of us have received our interiors I was looking to see who has successfully installed a set. :D
Also any problems along the way,or tips to installation etc. From the looks of mine the first thing I notice is that the MQ-1 calculator board sticks up pretty high thus I'm going to have to cut out a recessed area of the rear "interior" peice to fit over the calc. board. also the screw heads for the RF protruding through will have to be modified, with thought of future maintenance for this part built in.
I'm looking forward to a NICE installation once I'm done and have some other tweaks to the exterior of mine to do first. Mainly the rangefinder stalk to be tapered and install my MS 3-peice RF to the stalk and weather the whole stalk itself.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
I just got mine a couple days ago...The pieces look awesome! I can't wait to paint these badboys up!
-
Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
I want to get mine all test fitted dry first. Then I'll paint and install. Incidentally, what kind of glue are you all thinking of using to install these? It'll need to be something with good grabbing power for the initial stick and superb holding power for longevity. I've tossed around Liquid Nails for "Panelling" since it's designed for the initial "grab"......
I think krazyglue would work, but it's too thin...even the thick stuff is too thin. Which led me to some construction adhesives. I've used the polyurethane construction adhesives at home for the uber bond when necessary, but it doesn't have good grabbing power.:doh
thoughts????

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
Bondo, bondo, bondo... and just a few dabs ill do ya! That is what I am using... most likely. I thought about the idea of having them removable just incase I was ever to sell the bucket becase I dont want to ever sell the foam inserts. So perhaps I need to get a bit more invintive.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
i got mine already painted & installed. i needed to trim about 1/2 to 1/4 of the base off so i could fit my head in. painting wasnt hard at all. i used super glue on the verry edges of the peices so i can take them off if my head didnt fit. luckly my head fit in perfect. i used a rustolium nutmeg on the padding peices. & used chrome on for the silver. i hand painted the chrome so it looked really worn. the red is claret wine or somthing like that. im uploading pics right now but they really dont do it justice. they are fuzzy & my room really needs a ceiling light or somthing cause its dark as h3ll in here. anyway ima upl;oadem in 5 min so you guys can tell me what you think. ill borrow my friends camera tommorow & take much better pictures. his camera is awsome.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
I'm thinking of using E6000 for the glue, to put them in. I'm not too sure yet.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
By the looks of yours they must paint and weather fantastic!!!!!! How did you go about trimming off the 1/4-1/2" off? I have used an electric kitchen carving knife to cut foam in the past with laser accuracy and thought this would be another product to use my knife on. I opted for the hard original material, but it is still foam so cutting it won't be a problem.
I only see myself trimming the block foam pads to make them more pliable.
The only forseeable challenge is going to be cutting out a deep enough area to fit over my MQ-1. I'll trim the edges first and then go in with something else. I thought about cross cutting and then diagonal to get the bulk of the material out. Then a coarse dremel sanding drum to smooth out the foam enough to fit over it.
Again AWESOME INSTALLATION!!!!!

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
ya i encountered that problem with my MQ-1. i compleatly hollowed out the back peice luckly the outside foam doesnt tear as eassly as the inside foam.
OK what i dod is i took a razorblade. just the blade. & picked the desired amount i wanted left. the only peces i didnt touch were the 2 side pieces that go where the ears are. those fit perfect just as they were. the padding & back peice were the major problem. after i trimed around the 3 peices i just went & tore the backs out. then i hollowed out the blocks by tearing the foam out manualy on the padding. for the backpeice i held me finger on the outside (hard surface) & put the razorblade CAIRFULY in. i then cut around the deeper part of the area where the MQ-1 was gunna go & cairfuly tore out the inside foam untill the pice was genteraly hollow except for the round disk. lucky that fit. i also had to cut the bottom of my MQ-1 off (the peice that doesnt show through the keyholes. that way it fit perfectly. another thing you may have better luck doing in this complicated proses is sanding the back of the MQ-1 to about the thickness of a regular circut board. but becairful cause when its that thin its verry delicate. hope that made scence. if ya need a picture juat ask me. the back peice is only glued in by the corners in my helmet & can easly be removed if you need a visual aid. always happy to help :D

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
Hollowing out the foam blocks is a great idea! I hadn't given thought to that. It'll make them more pliable to go against the side. I've been working on resizing my RF stalk tonight and getting the exact angle of the RF itself on there. It's not a perfect 90 degrees in AoSW,but I'll have to look at some promo pics from ESB to see if it was in the film.
Ahhhh Fett...whats would thou do without without thou:lol (besides have more cash)

I used crazyglue for my install and it worked unreal! It's what I recommended in the first thread I had posted.

Excellent!! Thanks MS!:thumbsup

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
These interior kits are just incredable!! Actually the reason I signed up now, before my helmet is done, so I'll know exacly when they're back up for sale and I can jump on a set!
A question on the glue, I was toying with the idea of just hot glue, pulls out real easy if need be, and wouldn't do any damage to the foam I know, but might it not be substansial enough?
-
Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
I used crazy glue like marrow sun and very small screws. I was able to find screws just for this purpose at hobby lobby.
-

I'm still undecided what type of glue I should use. My Foam is paint finish
but when I install the foam into my MS helmet it looks a bit tight. I guess
that's the way it should be since I didn't apply the glue yet. It seems like
I might have to use a stronger type of glue to keep the foam down.
Are most of you using Krazy Glue?....& does it really work? Any suggestions
will be really appreciated.
Not to change the subject or anything but I'm also changing my faceshield
to Green instead of smoked. What type of glue did most of you used to install or replace the faceshield.
Thanks!:) :fettesb :skull

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
yeah, crazy glue worked for me really well. I used screws so I could take it out If I wanted to.

Unless you bought a set under another name on the board I don't recall selling you a set of these foam pieces?!:? Maybe New years was too hard on my brain:lol

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
there are those with an amazing interior
there are those with basic interiors
there are those that have stunning exteriors so the interior is often disregarded.
and then there are those, with no helmet.
this is extremely cool, i commend you

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
I'm about to start my interior installation and was wondering if there is any cleaning of the foam that is necessary for paint to stick?
I'm going to be using the same Polly scale/Floquil paints I painted the bucket with which are all acrylic.
Thanks guys,
Steve:fettesb
-
Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
Well the parts are pretty clean out of the mold, but with anything that is to be painted I quick wipe to remove the dust isn't a bad idea.
Remember guys, you must use acrylic paints, enamel paint will crack too easy with any flexing.
Also you should be able to use KRYLON spray paint. I'm not going to guarantee that, try it on a small spot first, but the pieces being sent out have been prepainted with krylon.

Its comfortable but it does slide around. My suggestion is to get it with this part and try it out.If you dont like it you can remove it.

Fantastic installation DM:thumbsup
I'm working on mine now....I've got some real cool custom ideas that I'm incorporating into the overall final design. I'm combining my own ideas with MS's kit.....I can't wait to get it done and show off my work here....it's taking a while though.....lots of work;)

I'm proably not going to go that route. I figure guys will be using hardhat liners still or they can custom fit there own foam piece or sponge for their forehead. If I made something it might not fit everyones heads the same.

That's cool DL44! Looks good.
Does anyone have pictures of the inside of Boba's helmet? I don't have any, or know how to paint the interiors to look correct. Thanks.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
the actual screen used Boba fett helmet doesnt have an interiour. the interiour came from the Riddle mini helmet & Marrow Sun was kind enough to make a life sized replica of that interiour. i dont know of any interiour riddle helmet pictures on the board right now
-
Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
Thanks, BFS1. I have the MS interiors, but I've never seen the Riddell interiors. Also I thought possibly one of the Star Wars books out there might have had a cross section or something like I've seen for the Stormtrooper helmet. If anyone has pics of the mini helmet interior or something from a Star Wars book that would be cool.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
The mini helmet interiors are essentially the same thing.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
My kit showed up today, and is really just incredable, MS has done a great job on these, really top notch. Worked on mine non stop when I got home, and got the paint work finished up, and the pieces glued in. Little work left to go, (the mic is temparary) but pretty well got er! Really happy with it, adds that touch to the helmet, gives it that real world feel. Here are the pics

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
Yeah, when I get a project in my mind little else will sway me, food, sleep, little things like that, bah who needs em? (when my Trooper suit gets in, I think my girlfriend might kill me) Thanks a lot, that means a ton coming from the maker, I wanted to make sure I did your work justice. And yeah, these are a lot of fun to paint up! I do a lot of acrylic work on various things from customising made figures, making kits, full size props, and **** near anything else I can get a brush on, so this was a great project.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
Thanks guys! SlaveR5, I used acrylic paints to do that, I like Folk art brand, but use the others without much complaint. You can get them in small bottles at any craft store really, I usually go to Michales though. You'll need a couple brushes too, I used the size 10 spotter, a liner, and a shader, and some small sponge for the black wash and dry brushing.
Laungo, you'll ahve to talk to Marrow Sun, he makes them, but no idea how many more runs he'll do.
Thanks a lot DL44! means a lot from you, since your great kit build up inspired mine. LOL!! yeah figured the inside of the bucket would show some pretty good signs of wear too!

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
I just wanted to stick my head in here and say hi... I did the design work on the Riddell helmets and its great to see everyone still enjoying them and actually expanding the concept to full size. First the Stormtrooper helmet for the Visual Dictionary now these... Awesome.
Excellent work on these! Now I just have to get a bucket and get a set of the full size interiors for myself.

Re: Let's see your MS bucket interiors!!!
those are super tight! i can't wait for the day i can afford a high quality helmet and hopefully put those in there as well. anybody know if these are going to be included in the MR helmets?
