"The Lava"/ "Mystery Helmet" Let's solve this!

here's my Lava Helmet
No Mystery about it.

Here is a comparison of one of the tells that passes from the PP2 to the RS plug to the Lava helmet. After this it seems that this tell is lost, although others remain that still tie the "Mystery" tm helmet to the PP2.

Cool, I'll sand away the primer there on mine tomorrow and see if there's any bondo there.:) (y)

Okay, I can't take it any more. I must at last reveal my true identity.
Keeping the appearance of a humble Canadian fan is just too tough. Like I told Dave Prowse the first time he wore the suit, "MORE INTENSITY!!!!"

My name is George Lucas. I did a couple movies a while back (you may have heard of them) and wouldn't ya know it, my nanny went and sold a couple of my helmets on Ebay!

Please kindly send all helmets, plugs, molds, casts and particles to my Canadian address for inspection. Be sure to wrap them in some cool lumberjack shirts - I can;t get enough of those bad boys!

That will be all.

George (my friends call me G-Lu)

p.s. I'm sorry for the whole Sarlaac thing. Damn booster hit that stuntman right in the junk and he screamed like that all day. :(

Just so it is said and no one takes any of my posts the wrong way, I want to state plainly that I think the "mystery" tm and mystery-style helmets are the best thing going. Now... if we could ever get RS to open up the floodgates on that plug it might be a different story, but before the "mystery" tm helmet the best thing we had were modified DP helmets. With sarge's and others help, we were able to take one step closer to the real deal. My only concern in this is that there is no confusion about the history of the.. man.. I hate it when stuff rhymes.. the history of the helmet sarge bought.

Hehehehe, Can I make that my signature? 8) :p

it's like the house that love built, "the helmet that sarge bought." that's a title for a new york times bestseller, soon to be a major motion picture right there. you should consider writing a biography of your time with the bucket, from when you first saw it on ebay all the way up through when i realized i was an idiot and didn't send you a PM i thought i did.

I remember that when M_S started to sell his helmets here that I recommended naming them the "Enigma Helmet". :)

You could always coin a new phrase but the word "Mystery" has been embedded in the history of these helmets for a long, long time.

For me its no longer cast as a Mystery bucket or what ever. Sgt - yours is now just known as a 'Sgt Fang' bucket in its own right.

thanks for bringing us this bucket (y)

Make sure to take a pic Sarge, if there is some bondo there.

Didn't get to today with the mailing run, but I'll try to do that tomorrow- We've had a little Slipknot geek pestering us for pics of Phil's "Corey" mask for weeks anyway, so a photo run sounds like a good thing.8) (y)

I'm still kind of partial to "Sarge's Savior", but "Sgt Fang bucket" will work.:)

So then, from now on, when someone asks me about the origin of the kits, I can say with a straight face, that it's decended (over several generations) from the PP2 helmet, no ifs, ands, ors, or buts?

If I may, I've always been mildly curious as to the origin of the ears. Who made them and why does every "mystery" cast seem to have the same [ear] casts?

I have to agree… every single mystery cast has those Don Post style ears, way undersized. Did they just take a casting, cut the ears off and then sculpt brand new ones?

To the best of our research efforts, that is so. My greatest concern, and the concern from the beginning is that the "mystery" tm helmet has been made out to be more than it is. We definitely do not wish to belittle or take away from it, as it along with its brothers and sisters (however many or few they may number) are a significant part of the Fett replica history. But we don't want to make it more than it is either. As always, when possible, we just hope to help create clarity in a hobby that is so often obscured with exaggerations and what people wish or hope things to be. I am just sorry that such and exaggerations were presented to Sarge as "fact" in the first place.

I scratchbuilt new ones after carefully measuring the warped originals on my lava helmet before I ground them off.

Are the undersized or something? :confused
