Just when you thought it was safe...another ESB paint up!

Well, It's the same, a latex mask for paint, but maybe is better one or other.

Thank you very much TF! :D And for the Silver paint base, what have you used?

Awesome helmet TF!

:cheers

Humbrol Silver no.11 I found the metal cote promotes peeling if you're layering the paints although it looks great for topical painting. No.11 is a tad shinny but during the wire wool rubbing stages this fades to a dull sheen. The other thing is it's just right when it comes to picking off the additional layers for the scratch details...

Can you give any more info about this? Maybe a pic?
I'm always looking for new and improved painting supplies. :)

These are the tools: self propelling pencil with no led for the scratching; silicone paint brush thing O gauge chisel type (there are loads of different versions) and the stub of an old brush for the paint scuffs and shading here and there...:)

It is some-what self explanitory but could you elaborate a bit more on the techiniques you achive with each tool. I'm a bit of a newbie at this and weathering is my downfall. Looks awsome though. I wish my talents were that fine!

Looks great bro. You use the exact same mechanical pencil that I do. I know exactly what TK7602 is saying about the brush clogging. I had this as well when I was using this stuff called Maskoid. It worked well, but ate brushes like crazy. I just bought W&N pretty cheap at my local art store, kind of a new find for me. It works even better than the old stuff, and rinses very clean from my brushes after use. I can use them over and over again.

Its very simple really, the silicone brush is for applying the Humbrol maskol. Take the dome for example:
Spray the helmet silver, mask the silver damaged, spray the helmet grey. Remove the silver mask. Mask the silver and grey damage, spray the helmet green. Remove the silver and grey mask. The propelling pencil is for the fine detail scratches, pushing through the dry paint leaves a fine chipped scratch, dragging on its edge sideways a crack like mark, doing this on recently painted surfaces has different effects; endless possibilities with a basic tool. Depending on how hard you press will determine which layer you expose!
The stub of the brush tool i used has virtually no hair but makes some great marks; just experiment with what you have to hand, i hope this helps?
:)

That's a brilliant tip using the silicone brush for the masking fluid. I've thrown out several bristle brushes because of the mask already. I'll have to pick one of these bad boys up! I never even heard of them until now.

in the middle of painting my lid up, help from other members suggested i take a look at your lid for colours, i can't believe the amount of detail and time you have put into this, but it was more than worth it. can't see anyone doing anything better than this, just perfect, congratulations
