Jigglenomicon's Prep & Paint Progress

Greetings TDH People!
As i now have gotten my Asok Budget CC helmet i thought i would make a progress thread on the prep & paint.
This is my first helmet so i hope that people are willing to point out tips and tricks along the way.

Anyway i have trimmed the helmet with my Dremel tool ,sanded it a bit and buffed it with steel-wool(wire wool?) 0000.
I found the Dremel very easy to use (it almost cut the material like butter), and i love how the CC surface looks when buffed.

This is how it looks so far:

Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of small bubbles of resin along the edges of my helmet, does anyone know of a way to remove them without damaging the clear coat ? (other then using a Dremel and risk scratching it)

Oh, I see. Those areas were not as clear in your pictures.

Careful cutting with a very sharp X-acto knife can help to remove those very
small bubbles. If the bubbles are that small, they should not go all the way through
the metallic surface coat. So re-sanding or using wire wool should even up the surface
after removing them.
Test that on an area that won't be highly visible and see how it works. In fact, you
could test that method on one of the larger bubbles within the visor before you cut it out.

Yes sorry about that, i used my phone to snap some quick pictures before it started to pour down with rain XD.

After a quick test it seems that your advice is the way to go, most of the bubbles just pop off and even the larger ones give in with a small amount of persuasion.

Got any tips on what to use for cleaning the helmet before first coat of paint ?
I tried white spirit but quickly realized it made the surface "sticky" like the resin was dissolving.

Pop it in the sink with some washing up liquid and warm water just as if doing the dishes. Nothing special required but a good clean.

Also make sure that you are ready to install the visor soon after cutting out the T section. If the helmet is left without that section for a long period then it will begin to warp.

you should use warm water and dish soap to wash it, and if there are any problems with paint adhesion use 91% rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball.

I will use warm water and dish soap then :)
Unfortunately i cant start painting the helmet for some time since we are in the middle of a total renovation of our garage.

Here's the visor i got :

Its Dark Green Shade 5 and seems quite ridged but i hope that i can heat it up a bit with a heat gun and shape it to fit the helmet.
