JB Project/ FPH Helmet

Hey Alex, did you use Caboose on the mandibles? Looks a bit brighter is why I ask (y)

Sorry for the lack of updates...been busy with other parts of the Project..

and Yes and no...if that makes sense??:p
I used Caboose mixed with Rock Island Maroon...recommended to me by Steve the Swede....(y)...I felt a little more saturation was needed.
remember I still have to weather and mist on top of that, which will start to darken the red. For that i will use straight Cabosse and Box car red.......some may not agree with that method or mixing of colors, I say stick to the ref photos, they tell you all you need to know(y);).

Hope that helps Joe.

Yeah I'm a great believer in paint what you see, just curious as like I said it varied from the results I've got with the Caboose alone, thanks buddy (y)

I just wanted to put a note in hear about Rustoleum spray paints. They have a new Red colour in their line called Paprika and (as far as my eyes tell me) it looks almost EXACTLY the right colour for ESB Mandibles! It doesn't look like it from their website sample, but I did a test spray on piece of resin and compared it to pictures of the MR helmet and they match almost perfectly! (Deep Red with a hint of orange)

Its not about mixing colors, but the order and method of how they are applied.

I completely disagree.;)....seeing the real Hero Helmet in person confirmed that it is def not just one color, and that the recomended colors are not entirely correct. Assuming that each part of the helmet is just one color is something I will never be on board with... Its almost misleading..in away.

I will say however that the recommended colors are a good starting point, and it's up to the painter to remember that Ref material of the real fett should always be the standard...... besides, he asked me what I did.;)

The parts are certainly not one color each, RS's list is compiled of the "base" color for each part. Nobody ever said one color couldn't touch another or be layered over another. You also have to remember that some of the colors are not the same formula as they were 30 years ago. We can see this now with the varying caboose outcomes. There are also colors that are no longer being made, take the TIE fighter blue for instance.

People need to remember that RS didn't pull these out of a hat, almost all of them came from Joe and Sandy, and that list is telling you what they did.;)

True, I was curious if you had used the Caboose as I noticed a difference between my results and yours, I'm not sure we'll ever get it dead on as the helmet colours may have faded somewhat over the years of handling etc, original photos, if any, are a good reference but it always comes down to the persons eye and whatever knowledge is passed on from the originals. I think we are all very lucky to have the insight offered by Lee and I for one intend on using all the base colours recommended, if at any stage during the weathering stage I decide something needs to be lighter/ darker then so be it, its all good (y)

I think you said it yourself Delta...the colors are NOT the same formula, and I will DEF agree with that.(y)............. and that's my point really, and is the #1 reason why I will continue to mix.;)

Sorry... I never got around to uploading these last week..(y)

Enjoy.:)

THE - MOST - ACCURATE - DENT -PAINT JOB

EVER !!! PERIOD !!!

I can't even describe how close you nailed it in words man. The depth for one. You can see just a subtle hint of the carbon scoring, UNDERNEATH, between the crater, and the "chipping" around the edge. I've NEVER seen ANY-ONE, pull that off. Just amazing <insert shaking head from side to side icon here>

I count about 6 layers on the dent alone <including the darkest carbon at the base, and the smoke damage> Maybe seven. How close am I ??

And the rest is looking fabulous !

Dude, props to you man :cheers

FP

Holy smokes man, thats just incredible, Chris summed it up the best, I've never seen a dent like that, just perfect, and just as I was about to start mine!! At least now I have the BEST reference possible, well done Alex really well done!!(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

let me address this since I am also painting some of JBs stuff

Some of this project is left up to the artist himself....we all know that when you see the fett costume on display that many of the scratches, damage etc happened after the filming of the movie.

However some of this damage we have all grown to love and is recreated on helmets today.

I for one did my entire paintjob of my personal MSH2 based on the C4 costume and the personal pics I took myself.

I can tell you that painting the armor has been very difficult since we dont have as many pics of the armor and in some situations I had to wing it....

In the end this is a recreation if ESB but each artist who is sculpting and painting will have decsions to make and add his or her own personal touch.

Example...MOW...the decal you see on the jet pack was actually sculpted in an raised by MOW. This was his personal touch and I love it

Alex and I have talked about the helmet and what damage would be placed on it. I think the decisions he makes will be good and the end result will be incredible.

I am trying like heck to convince Spidey to put the black marks near the kill stripes on it. For me this is my favorite damage

so in short...no need to doubt

this bucket will be awesome(y)(y)(y)

Spidey, I have a doubt about the left check. The ESB helmet has this scratch (the red mark)?:

Thanks

Thanks

Darthmiller hit the nail on the head... he's exactly right.

I wanted to do more of a hybrid version on the paint job... a cross between the movie version and AOSW version.
Some scratches I like and some I don't......the one you were referring to proves that most of the intial paint job was layered, as the black simply chipped off.....reason i put that one on was because FP likes that one so much..
And as Darthmiller said, I will not be puting the Crack on the side of the helmet, or the black markings under the dent....I figured Jermey would remember that part of it and not be to fond of it....just my thought.

How bout I make a deal with you Kaan??? since you are the first one to notice, I will put a scratch on there just for you(y)...one that is on AOSW and not on the screen version.......my treat for you.:)..and NO Blue Marker!!

And I love the work on the dent! (y)

Andy, is your helmet pure ESB?
if so can you send me pics... as I want to make mine movie as close to accurate.
or can you point out what not to paint.
