Does anyone have any tips on where to find some in Canada? I have even contacted Humbrol and just got a runaround with no answers.Im using this stuff and not liking it (really hard to get off) any tips please!?
You can use Winsor & Newton masking fluid. Should be able to find it at most art stores. Works really well. I just add some food coloring so I can see it better when using it.
Try calling local hobby stores (actual hobby stores not Michaels/Hobby Lobby). Even specialty hobby stores (RC, Train etc.) to ask if they carry it. Sometimes if they don't have it, but do carry Humbrol products they may be able to order it for you. If all else fails there is always eBay. That's where I got my last bottle from.
I couldn't find it either, so I ordered yellow coloured Windsor and Newton masking fluid from amazon(I think). Seems to work well, I wouldn't know the difference though.
I picked up one of these at my local Michael's store. It's called a Fineline Resist pen...basically a syringe bottle filled with masking fluid. I'm getting really good results from it.
If you have a Michael's nearby (I think they have stores in Canada) they may have one. I couldn't find one online, but it was in the store in the artist paint section.
The Micro Mask works but you need to put it on thick,I am still on the hunt for Maskol for my next paint up since this is my first and it's good practice.
I live in a Toronto suburb, found a store Great Hobbies sells all the humbrol paints and mask as shown in your first post. I picked some up just the other day. check their website for locations and you can see all the Humbrol colours they carry, and tells you if the store has stock! Greathobbies.com
I went to michaels and found it disgustingly overpriced for their masking fluid. $29 for a tiny bottle. picked up the micro mask from great hobbies for $5.99
Central Hobbies in Vancouver carries it. But I strongly recommend the Mr. Hobby brand instead. It's water-based, and much thinner so it allows for more detail instead of pulling more paint off with it.
the only thing bad about mustard....is it will stain the silver base coat sometimes!! Once you use ( Humbrol Maskol fluid) you want use anything else again!!
i found the micro mask very hard to come off. i did an experiment using micro mask on one side of my back panel. on the other side, i used some liquid latex (from my halloween bin) using both a brush and a coarse sponge to apply. surprisingly, the liquid latex was amazing! dried fast, and just rubbed off with my finger after the paint dried. the micro mask was terrible coming off.
There are a few UK based sellers on eBay that'll ship it overseas for a fairly reasonable cost. My question is to do an entire helmet, armor, gauntlets, knees...how many bottles of Maskol would be required? I'm assuming at least 2.

I had no problems with staining, but I never kept the mustard on for more than a few hours. Maybe if you mask and leave it over night to paint the next day it may stain-but like I said I never had a problem.
