How many people here have Sgt. Fang myster helmets?

As stated a short time ago I was scratchbuilding my own ear cap for the top right side of the helmet. This is custom made for the helmet and looks pretty decent. My question is how many people would be interested in one? If no one I iwll paint the stryene one up and slap it on my helmet, if peoplle are interested I will make some resin copies. For this one I made a new earcap that extends down and goes underneath the "block" that is there allready. I just have some finishing touches and pictures will be up.

I have one on order over at the RPF, but I've owned one before as well. It really depends on how clean your casting comes out.

I remember the mismatch on the earpiece, but I can't remember if I made any improvements to it.

I just received one from him over on the RPF. I am sanding it all down, to get ready for a paintjob. I haven't tried taping the ears on yet.

yeah it was 1/4 inch longer than the base but was the right size, it's the base that's wrong. But I found it easier to just scratch a new one. the "block" that I keep taling about goes in underneath the base and is cut to make it so that the cap sits fairly level, if off, not enough to notice, but if you look closely the base is off.

So it's the base that's 'too short'? That's an easier fix, I would think. I'm getting together with some local Fettsters next weekend, and we'll compare a few helmets. Hopefully, my SgtFang will be in by then.

Zombie, can you take a couple of pics?

I haven't received mine from Sarge yet either. However, I've got no reason to believe that it will be any different than yours. If you do decide to make resin copies please let me know so I can purchase one. Thank you.

Yeah its a pretty easy fix, just first thought that came to mind was that it was the cap, so I started cutting away then realized I went about it all wrong, I'm not in it for the money or anything the caps will probably be 5-10 dollars so most anyone who wants one will be able to have one.

I managed to pick up one myself in this last run, couldn't pass up the deal a real Mystery helmet for $100 from Sgt.Fang himself (no worry of recaster for this one). Don't know If I'll ever wear it for trooping but it is going to look good on display.

Is there a comprehesive list of up grades and know problems for this bucket? If not may be we should start one here and gather all the data in one place. Just a thought.

One thing I have to say it was one excellent transaction. For those of you still wanting one He is still popping them.

I can't wait for mine!

As far as upgrades go, I bought one of the new stalks from BKBT, and I have Ely's decals. The Borden connector is molded in, and pretty clean, so I'm not going to worry with that.

I will cut out the keyholes but I'm going for airflow instead of accuracy, putting screening behind the cutouts.

I already have TDH member Bobo's all-in-one RF lights, and a nice hollow RF topper. The only thing left is Hyperdyne's RC servo system.

I plan to start a 'progress' thread once the helmet arrives.

This earcap is kicking my arse, it was looking great not the perfectionist side of me is kicking in so every little thing isnt good enough then I try to work on those things then mess everything else up. all over a simple thing. I think I'm going to scrap my idea of making copies, I'm sorry to those of you who wanted to order them. I am going to cut the base off and go with someone elses earcaps.

I finally received mine the other day. I'm afraid I will have a lot more work that I expect to fix it. Did anyone else who received their SgtFang bucket have a "very lumpy" interior? The exterior is nice and smooth but the inside...oh man. I need to find a way to sand down the inside a bit and to heat up the bucket to flex it a bit more or I'll never be able to wear it.

Yes, mine had a lumpy interior as well. What I did with mine was, I sanded down the inside with a real rough grit sandpaper, and dremel sanded the bigger lumps down.

Then, I went and bought some fiberglass cloth & resin, and glassed the inside of my bucket. Really nice and smooth on the inside now. Plus the added strength my bucket gained.

I glassed it, because I knew I would be trooping in it a bunch, so I figured a little added strength wouldn't hurt.(I'm a little paranoid:lol: )

What I noticed was, when you cut out the visor area, the mandibles & cheeks felt a little thin for my tastes. They were sturdy, but my last bucket was fiberglass, and I just felt like that area could be sturdier. I glassed from the key slots in the back, and all the way up to where the visor will sit.

It made this bucket so much more sturdier, with not much more weight added. It was my first time working with fiberglass, and it was really easier than I thought it would be.

I am almost finished painting it up, and when I get my helmet interior & visor installed, I will post a review of this bucket, with a bunch of pics!

I´m still waiting for my bucket, darn* oversea-shipping.... :(

I used to own a MH and it is was lumpy inside, why would you even need to sand it smooth???
There is no need to and it is wasted time and effort.

If you put padding or a hard hat liner in it it will cover the bumps and the bumps won't matter one single bit, trust me.

Wear it and forget about it, why is it a concern???

Can you tell us anymore on the steps to glass the inside of the bucket? I too plan to wear this helmet a lot and want the added strength. If you have any tips for doing it it would be great!

I got mine today and I´m really happy with it ! Enough space for my melon for a great price. (y)
Can´t wait to start with it, but other projects have to be finished...

Neither. Sarge's helmet is categorized as a 'mystery' helmet. 'MSH' stands for 'Movie Sized Helmet' and those helmets are sculpted and produced by another member on the board.
