help...tamiya acrylic colours ??
after 3 repaints i am struggling to get the right colour green on my ESB bucket, so far i have used plastikote alpine green (way off) and tamiya olive green(to dark) then added some light grey, but its just not right.
any ideas as to which tam acrylic colour/s i need please?:cheers
Re: help...tamiya acrylic colours ??
I'm making a Pre-Production version 2 helmet and I'm going with the Tamiya XF-65 Field gray for the dome and cheeks. Not sure about the back of the helmet yet. I'm very happy with Tamiya acrylics, so I'm sticking with them.
I'm not sure if that color would work for an ESB helmet, but you could try a small bottle. I'd test it on a small area. If it's not what you want, put some on a mixing palette, add a little of another color and custom mix it to what you like. Save any of the left over custom paint for retouches later.
Any ideas from the more experienced painters out there?
Re: help...tamiya acrylic colours ??
cheers. i looked at german field grey but it just looked 2 dark, its hard to get a good idea of the actual colour online, but i've ordered humbrol us light green in the hope that this with a little of the lightened olive may do the trick for dome /cheeks
Re: help...tamiya acrylic colours ??
Try Humbrol enamels (Terminal Fettler does a comprehensive list)
Re: help...tamiya acrylic colours ??
Is there a reason you're using Tamiya paints specifically?
If you can get Humbrol, you could try to contact TerminalFettler to see which colors he used for his ESB paint job.
EDIT: I see I was posting at the same time as Jon. :)

Re: help...tamiya acrylic colours ??
:fettesb Hi,
I used only Tamiya colors for my helmet and a airbrush. For the main color of the helmet ( dome, lower cheeks) I mixed Olive Drab with a few drops of Flat Blue and Deck Tan. You can see the result here : http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/first-post-first-scratchbuild-helmet-26420/ .
I hope this will help you ;).
Re: help...tamiya acrylic colours ??
ok great thanks everyone, not sure if enamel will work though as the fast dry plastikote stuff i used for the black gave a horrible think uneven finish that i had to sand, up close its still looks kak, but maybe that was just down to the brand.
taken a look at termainal fettlers lid wow! this is the shade of green i am going for, hopefully i can get close with olive/grey/ and us light green:cheers
