helmet kits and where to start

Hi everyone, im a new member and as i stated in a recent introduction post an experienced metal, stone, and clay artist who just started getting into propmaking. rather than making a whole helmet from scratch, i thought what better way to ease myself into propmaking than with a helmet kit to practice my airbrushing and possibly customizing features on. ive seen numerous premade kits up for sale from many different users. i was just wondering what the community's input is on kits, are their recommended buyers? how should i go about purchasing one? idealy i am looking for something akin to what was used by artists in the celebration "as you wish projects," a visorless plain cast bucket with all the ear parts, antenas, ect separated. id rather avoid ebay unless someone recommends a seller as hand cast things on there usually come warped or unwearably thin. any help from the community is appreciated,

While people can offer advice, the best bet is going to be searching the forums to research which helmet is going to work for your budget, sizing, and details.

Be prepared to wait for backlogs to be fulfilled as well.

I went with a Bobamaker and nearly built an entire scratch helmet in the 6 months I waited for it to be completed.

From what ive been able to gather from my limited access to the forums, as well as extensive web searching is that there are a few makers, i ran across the names asok (who apparently makes/used to make kits) as well as fettpride (which is what the celebration helmets i mentioned where from). while bobamaker is very nice, im not comfortable paying 300+ dollars for a plain cast of a helmet is worth it. ideally i would like to keep it between 150-200 dollars. i would scream if i could my hands on one of those fettpride kits, and ive seen people list and sell them on the rpf for around 175. i just have no idea how im supposed to go about buying/or even contacting other members for kits, im aware of posting things on the cargo hold, unfortunately i cant do that since im a new member

From the info you have given, I think Asok is your man - send him a private message, and he will give you details on all his helmet kits, which include the original fettpride cast, and the newly gathered GMH. He'll clear up any questions.. :)

One thing about Asok, you will NOT have a long wait. I have gotten helmets from him in as little as 3 days from the time I sent PP. That is no guarantee but I doubt you will ever wait more than 2 weeks for Asok to get the helmet to you. He is a class act all the way around.

Depending on which helmet you get the price will be from the 150 to 250 range. I sent him PP for a GMH helmet on the 10th and the post office shows to be delivering it today......a whole whopping 3 days later. Can't wait to see the mailman today.

Very true Asok is a pleasure to deal with...but might wanna hold on buying anything just yet....watch the cargo hold etc for helmets as they show up all the time.

How much did you end up paying for the fettpride bucket and what kit did you end up going with as far as stuff that came with it? If you don't mind me asking that is.
