I know marrowsun has a sweet interior kit for helmets. Im wondering if its acurate? Is there a schematic or some photos of what its theoretically supposed to look like? Or is it just a creative license sort of thing?

Its based on the Riddell mini helmets. The "real" helmets had nothing inside except for some minor padding and a chin strap.
thats what i wondered thanks webchief.
now ill look for a picture of that:0
Was just lookin' around and found a great site HERE There are great pictures of all the helmets i think.
Hope it helps.
Well, after looking around at the source, and seeing whats available, and the source material, i cant find any cannon info for the helmet. It appears that riddell made up the interior based on a couple of different old tech drawings. Vader helmet, trooper helmet, etc.
That being said, i decided to scratch build my own using the same information, which made them end up quite a bit more detailed, but not what everyones used to
Thanks for the help

Heres the plugs, earcaps and a test pull of my 'bad' mold. The mold didnt cure because one of the gap filling primers inhibited it. Made for a 'grimy' pour in the corners.
Provides a nice weathered effect, wont look good if you go for the white, clean look.
The new plugs (models) are on the last page, I finished the new center rear last night, working on the blocks now.
Images from that thread to show some details:

On a side note, if anyone has a riddell mini helm they want to 'loan' me, send it to me, ill send it back with a set of foam interior kits with it![]()
pm sent
Ok, still looking for a riddell with the interior. If anyone has one please pm me, even if you can just send me detailed pictures.
Thanks
Mason
can't help on the riddel, but what you've done so far looks fantastic!
wow stormie, nice work...wish i couldve helped more with the mini...really anxious about this thread...definantly keep us posted brother...![]()
BFett25 has offered to let me BORROW his mini to use as source material for another version of these. Hes going to mail me one, and Im going to return it with the full size foam/rubber interior with it
Im going to finish these in the mean time, as these are a little more 'functional' than the riddell from what I have seen.
I have placed pressure blocks, and pieces in all the places a normal head hits the helmet.
Once I get the new helmet, or get a pull or two of this one done, ill post more
Thanks again BFett25. It is much appreciated.
Looking great so far bruv... can't wait to see what you do with the 'Riddell' versions. 8)
Bro, you do just amazing work!!!
Very cool work :thumbup !!
I like the greater details of the parts.
It just looks more realistic than the Ridell interior.
What's the name of the foam/density that you're using?
I'm having a problem with a totally different project that
needs a thin skin on soft floppy foam.
Thanks
Well, I am using the polytek f5. I think its a 5 density. I dont know if theres a shore hardness for the foams. The softest rubber ive found is 30.
This foams skinning properly in the mold but i have a theory why. Im working with alumilite locally to get a better foam working. They have a 3 thats nice. its like nerf but smaller, more uniform cell density. Its not ready yet.
Send me a pm about what your making and ill see if i can help you get what you want out of it.
Awesome work!

The helmet arrived today! It looks totally different in person that int does in these pics. Amazingly enough.
Im workin on the model as other things dry/heat up.
Thanks again for the helmet loan BFett25. Ill send you progress pics as I go

Update
The 'aged' version of the molds is making good pulls. Ive pulled about 5 from it, and have the process down to minimal flaws in the finish surface.
Heres a pic of the pulls. One with a bonded silver flake coating, that makes it look metal. The other in onyx black rubber.
These have actually been the preferred pieces to everyone ive shown, because they look used. The new ones are super clean, and I think they look like stormtrooper plastic instead of fett metal. But ill let you be the judge when I get the pulls up.
Input welcome.
The pictuers arent the greatest, poor light on my pool table, but i think it shows well enough where it is.
Send me a pm if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Mason!
BTW Ill have pics of a set installed this week.
fantastic, brother!! cant wait for you to finish!! i would like to be put on your list for your first run...these are going to be awesome!! i like the silver colored ones in the first pic...more metal looking...did i say these are awesome!!? great job mason...skills brother...let me know details on getting one of these bad boys, mason...you know i am in!!!

Im working on the 'cube bubble padding'. I sculpted and sanded them, but they didnt have the right 'shape' They were missing something. So I sculpted them again, and put them inside of balloons!
The hard foam, inside of the baloon, giave it a nice finish, and gave it the 'air filled' look i couldnt accomplish by sculpting with an exacto knife.
I had to get tin based silicone to then mold it, as latex and platinum dont like each other.
Now im making the run offs of them, and testing a black paint to make sure it works with the silicone i have. The blocks should be about done today.
I also ordered some other, softer foams, to test because this foam is maybe a little firm with the rubber. To get good shape they are compressed 5-7 lb/ft im going to try the 'nerf foam' in the next batch, which is a little softer.
Ill update tonight with some more pics.
Thanks for the interest brother.
Mason
Cool MAson, I'm glad you got the helmet ok. Sorry I haven't posted just got back from D*C. The pics look great! Can't wait to see the finished ones!
Im currently 'part shopping' for found pieces that are close in size to the internals of your riddell.
The hardest part about the riddell is that a real head wouldnt fit into it. Theres too much padding/parts filling the internal the way the scale helmet by riddell is. Im going to have to make the padding slimmer, and the parts slimmer.
Also, most dont use a construction helmet, so im going to have to make a 'forehead' set of foam pieces, to offset the rear padding in the helmet. The rear padding, without something to help you keep your head centered would squish your face to the visor. We dont want that.
Ill have some of the pieces laid out before I leave for portugal, but it wont get complete till I get back, i leave on the 9th.
Updates soon
Mason
Heres the pics of the V1 (dirty) kit installed. The V2 is in silicone. The v3 is on my bench (RIddell)
I decided to go with a leather look on the rubber. Darker skin with lighter center foam. It gave it a 'realistic' look right out of the mold. The top pictures are flat black as they exit the mold. The bottom is with a 1 minute rub and buff on it.
The top center piece may need to be thinner, and a forehead piece needs to be made. Maybe just an extra leather piece, to cut and use all over.
They look better in a painted gray or black interior, but I wanted it to stand out exactly what you were looking at/getting
enjoy
Feedback is very welcome.

nice, Mason, nice...one question on these...how does a resin mq-1 work with these liners? is that piece you have there where the slots are in the back an alternative for the mq-1? does it go over the existing mq-1 board? or, does yours even need to be there, if you have the mq-1? just curious, brother...excellent work, and so wanting one!!![]()
i really like the realistic look to them...how soft are these? will they mold to your head when you put on the helmet? sheesh, i said one question, didnt i...![]()
They are a nerf football with some thin rubber to stop it from flaking over it. The padding pieces are REALLY soft. The circuit pieces are a little firmer.
I made the rear piece big enough to be hollowed out for the MQ1 board.
It should fully encase it. You would have to hollow it out carefully with a razor or scizzors. I could probably made one that makes it hollow, but it wouldnt be very soft then.
The V2 are a little less detailed, so a little softer, but not as weathered looking.
The V3 are going to be real close to the riddell pieces. Im still working out the dimensions to make them fit perfectly in most helmets.
The pieces can also be trimmed thinner to go in smaller helmets.
About 1/4 inch on all pieces can be taken off without losing detail.
Hope that helps.
Im excited. Im going to paint the internal of the helmet soon, then they will really look good
ciao
Mason
awesome, brother!! how are you making them stick inside the helmet? i am so full of it tonight, arent i?but seriously, what adhesive are you using, and can any jo schmo like myself install these bad boys?
Inside the helmet theres a couple options.
I used double sided tape, the foam core type. Heres why.
It sticks well to the resin. Not very well to the foam. BUT i superglue the foam to tape.
This way, it doesnt move AT ALL, but if you want to take it out, you can split the foam core tape with a razor blade.
Now, my ears are held on with TNUTS and bolts/rubber washers. So each place one stuck through, i used the tips of scissors to snip a little spot out. You cant feel them.
The only problem so far with these, is I dont think anyone is going to want the rear piece in while trooping. The sides are PERFECT.. Super soft and hold nicely. But the back piece makes your nose close to the front.
In all my helmets I never put pad right in the rear. I put the 'stabilizer' piece of foam on the forehead above the visor.
Im going to put in the rear piece with velcro, so I can put it in when its on display, and take it out to troop. For the super serious, like my son, he will tell people 'this is my power pack im putting in'. The top piece some will use some will not also while trooping, my heads tall so I dont need it. Im going to cut it down to about half height and it will work much better. I may put the circle piece, right on my forehead to cushion.
Personally I think that these will need a third leather looking piece, to be cut up and used all over the helmet for fitting purposes.
Im going to pull 2-3 sets tonight/tomorrow before i leave for europe tuesday to use up my rubber. So ill get a good idea of what else needs to be done to them then.
Thanks man good questions!
Mason
Holy Cow, those are awesome bro! They look more detailed than the real deal. Great stuff man!
G-Fett
Looking good!!!!!!!!!! You've also thought about adjustment details which is great. I had a problem with previous interiors being too bulky and not fitting my small to average noggin in with them.![]()
Wow Mason.. looking good brother! Every attention to detail. I just snagged an MQ off the bay... so I was hoping that it would fit with the pieces your making. After looking at the Riddell.. I can't believe the detail you have on yours.
Awaits with excitement on the return!![]()
Thanks brotherIve been busy. the V2 (clean new looking model) just got pulled from the oven. I cleaned up the mold, and im making a set of the new ones as we speak.
They are more of a TK style. No grit. No corrosion. Perfectly symmetrical.
Im trying a new foam however, so theres no guarentee this first pull will come out. Its softer, and more expensive, more 'nerf' ish. But if it makes the product feel better while still looking as good, its worth it.
I guess the question is do you want a riddell versionor one of these?
If you want one of these as the one I owe you for lending me the helmet, i can send it before i leave for portugal next week.
LMK
These kits are ready to go, $75 to your doorstep in the US, $85 outside the US. If you want them before I leave (tuesday 9th) youll have to pm me by friday night, so i can run them saturday.
Thanks for the interest.
Cant wait.... too excited....
So i pulled one from the new mold. Now this, is highly detailed. And it still has some flashing and clay in the mold, that means the next mold will be even tighter.
J
Just to be clear. This is a foam pull from the new molds. Ready to put in a helmet
Now im feeling better about the project again.
fantastic my fett friend!! great work, and man, you are excited? been wanting a liner for awhile now, and you go and do this...awesome!! sent a pm...put me on a list for the middle of the month...![]()
First pulls of other side and center. Super soft foam with a rubber coating.
dude...you know what i am going to say....:thumbup
