    Helmet Differences

Ok, I'm new here but I am not new to Boba Fett. I have recently however, become more serious in my quest to build my own costume, and the first key feature I want to source out is the Helmet. Over the past few years I have used tk409.com as my site to gather information. Other than being a tremendous help in me gaining knowledge on the different aspects of Fett's armor, and eventually leading me here, he mentions 2 helmets in particular, the Sgt Fang and the Marrow Sun. But now that I have started to broaden my search on this website I'm hearing about the FettPrides and the Grant McCune as well.

After reading some of the posts on this website I am a bit torn on which is better (if that's what you'd call it)

Do the Sgt Fang and Marrow Sun "Mysteries" and the Grant McCune's source back to the same helmet? The Pre-Pro 2 Correct? and if so what are the differences?

And where do the Fettprides originate?

Any other decent helmets out there?

Please help me out if you can and I cant wait to interact and get to know more of you as I become more involved in TDH.

    Welcome to the forums mate.

Probably best for you to look here:
    http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f31/g...ailable-38956/

Fettpride is selling the Grant McCune helmets and they are cast from a pre pro helmet. They are the most accurate helmets out there currently.

Not exactly. They are cast of modified/repaired cast of mould of a cast of a repaired mould of a repaired cast of a PP#2 helmet mould. I hope that makes sense.

Haha, thanks. I was trying to cut a long story short.

The two threads FettPride has linked to in the thread I have put the link to in post 2 explains it all. I hope that makes sense.

    Re: Helmet Differences

The "fettpride helmet" is no longer made FP makes an MR prototype helmet, which is a digital scan basically MR did and wasnt altered, like the production helmet. The GMH is what it is like said above, the Mystery helmets are also from the PP2 line but werent done like the GMH they were moddified significantly and are shaped differently because of said modifications. They are NOT as close as the GMH. Id say wait for a GMH only because its the most accurate and well crafted helmet available.

    Re: Helmet Differences

If you want a helmet in the next few months Id look in to byinh one from Asok if I were you , as the maker you are refering to is very solidly booked and it may cause you frustration when trying to contact him ,And the helmet Asok is selling is made from said helmet makers previous helmet mold , and is a good helmet with roots back to the PP3 helmet,
How ever if you want to get probly the closest looking helmet to the original and dont mind waiting some time go with the GMH

    Re: Helmet Differences

That is the cold cast one correct jinto, and as a novice in the actual molding/casting process what does the cold cast exactly mean and how does that differ from the other ways of casting?

    Re: Helmet Differences

I actually just got my hands on a ASOK FP Budget today, and its great...Its significantly heavy then the FP fiberglass version of the same helmet...the Cold cast is resin impregnated with metal dust jinto will surely explain way better than that

cold cast is the term we use for clear gelcoat resin with aluminum powder added to it. when properly finished and polished the helmet shines like it's made from metal.

here's a thread with some cold cast jango helmets that i've done for other members: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f28/s...s-thead-38163/

Just to clear things up with that post While asoks helmets are VERY top quality, FPs parts are the ones I was refering to which ARE HANDS DOWN the best out there

    Re: Helmet Differences

So as for quality, (considering what is currently out there) I would want to go with:

    Fettprides GMH
    Asok's "Coldcast"
or if I can get hold of him (pmed him the other day) a Sgt Fang "Mystery" bucket?

Any other good ones currently on the market?

My personal opinion is that the Fang Mystery Helmet is more a starter bucket than a top of the line piece. They tend to require a lot more cleanup / finish work.

BobaMaker helmets are quite nice too.

    Re: Helmet Differences

I own both an Asok Boba Fett in CC and a Sgt Fang. Hands down the Asok is far superior. The Fang requires a LOT more work and cleanup and the price is not that significantly different.

I whole heartedly recommend Asok. Fang on the left Asok/FP on the right. The Asok has had about 15 minutes put into at this point.

They both look good, I like the paint on the Fang, good job Mullreel

And does having the earpieces already on the Coldcast hinder the helmet in any way as opposed to the ones you have to attach?

    Re: Helmet Differences

Thanks for the compliment. That is my generic mandalorian protector paint up.

I don't mind the ears being permanant. Once it is all together it is tough to tell anyways. If I was going for my be all end all helmet I would probably want the ears seperate. But I am such a helmet junkie that I will probably never get that be all end all helmet. lol

    Re: Helmet Differences

the fangs ears are not good , and the helmet is missing ear platforms , It was the best thing around 6 years ago but now there are quite a few better ,
And having the ear pieces on the Asok FP MR isnt a bad thing it ensures they will look flush to the helmet , unless you are attaching metal ears having them cast in to the helmet is a bonus , though it isnt "screen acurate"

I'm aware that the Fang and the GMH both can be traced back to an original, but does the FP have any lineage or is it just fan sculpted?

Which FP helmet? The MR prototype is a digital scan...which is a scan of the PP3 helmet, the FP helmet is a fan sculpt i believe and those arent produced any more

Well I started into this hobby a little over a year ago and I have 2 Asok Jangos, 1 Asok Boba, 1 Sgt Fang, 1 M-DSB Assassin, 1 ONE END (Kids Helmet), and 3 clone helmets.

2 of the clone helmets are cheaper and one is really nice. I haven't worked on the really nice clone helmet or the Asok Boba yet. They will get some attention when I finish work on my Jango.

Do you ever plan on owning a GMH?

Yes I would like to get a GMH at some point.......probably a little later this year. I had kinda planned on waiting for the initial wave to subside and finish my Jango before I order one.

Collecting does get addictive. I've currently got an MR cast Boba, MR cast reworked to Jango, Boba Holiday special, Pre Vizsla from The Clone Wars, a Clone Wars Mando grunt on the way, a GMH on the way, and... 7? 8? clone helmets.
