Just what it says. I'm getting to that point. Searching the archives all I found was Tyler suggesting a mixture of several colors. Has anyone found anything that works well?

Thanks,
Phil

hmm, how close is this one? I know I still need to add the white arch to the top and the little detail thingies but hey....

left ear color

Let me know what you think and I'll gladly give you the color. It's in a big bag somewhere in my closet so I'll have to search for it later.

Doug

Thanks for the pic Doug. The color is close, reminds me of antique gold that I have, but still a little rich I think. The color seems to be a much lighter, almost white-ish gold. I'm afraid it may have to be mixed or misted or something...

Phil

it actually doesn't seem to have as much color in person as in that pic with the flash. I know know how I could get something that makes it look lighter. Also it took me like 8 coats of it just to get it to that color. It is actually model masters acryl and the color is brass. Its' painted over silver and the silver still really shows through. Maybe on top of white it would be better. I'll paint some on a piece of white sintra and post it so you can see what you think.

** Ok, here are color pics of 2 colors I tried. After looking at them more closely you might be right...it might be too gold. let me know what you think

Colors NO flash

Colors WITH flash

Helmet NO flash

I'll delete those pics in about a week to clear up file space so let me know what you think.

Doug

hmm...without the flash they look ok, but with the flash it seems way too bright. I'm still thinking I may try to mist it somehow or mix some acrylics... We'll see :)

Thanks for the effort Doug,
Phil

Using the reference cd pics from the England exhibit, I repainted my rangefinder earpiece last summer. The color I found out of the bottle that's VERY close is:

Testors Model Master line. Panzer Dunkelgelb 1943.

It was in the hobby shop with all the military colors.
I weathered it so it doesn't look exactly the same on the helmet after the weathering, but it's pretty close from what I've seen.

I don't have any pics downloaded of it, but there were some on the DragonCon cd Braks made me. I could email one to you guys. I don't know how to resize, so it may be huge.

I found a good one looking at the cd, but remember how digital cameras with a flash don't look 'exactly' like how the armor is in real life. The pic I found is pretty close to my weathered earpiece, but the "reds and yellows" on my armor look way too bright compared to real life. Shall I email it?

Email sent to JMP and BobaFreek.

Does anyone have a pic of the real deal handy? I have an idea of what the color should look like, but it would be nice if we could all be looking at the same thing at the same time.

I misted several colors for my helmet but i think it needs more gold. :facepalm
Anyways, heres a pic of the actual earcap.

This one doesn't have as much flash to it.

Hope this helps. :)

I've never seen the ESB in person, only the ROTJ, but I've been thinking that the color is really more of a tan.

thanks for the email :cheers

Well I custom mixed two acrylics together. I used almost half and half Metallic Aluminum and Incan Gold. The Incan gold is a very light color, same as I used on my rifle's grip. The result was a metallic gold that was very washed out, borderline silver, I'm very happy with it. The photos seem to show it much shinier than it really is, in person it blends with the helmet very well...

Thanks for all the help guys,
