To Hasboro Boba Fett helmet or not too?

I couldn't find a decent priced one anywhere. I've never done anything with resin or fiberglass, I'm not opposed to it, but just don't know about it. Besides that, what else would be a good platform to build off of? I want something kind of solid maybe some sort of real helmet as the foundation to everything else..

What's your intent? What's your end all be all budget on a helmet? You can get a very nice one for around $200, but it will still need to be worked on. Visor area removed(cut away) extra material at bottom sanded off, and of course painted and visor installed.

Really depends what you're looking to do...

I would like to do something like that exactly. I just don't want to start off instantly with a $200 dollar helmet.. I will if I have too. I just wasn't sure if there was another good starting point. Budget doesn't really matter, because I don't care if it takes a month or a year to complete this helmet. I have a muscle car, so I know all about patience on projects...

Thee are budget molds of $175 that are excellent helmets as well, but that's really as low as a good one goes. Anything else is going to be cheap/thin plastic or vinyl, and will be rather inaccurate as far as the actual molding goes.

And with some patience you could try to find so B pulls from the nicer molds and maybe save a little money. And a "B" pull from most of the good makers will still be far superior to a Hasbro, and a ton less work.

You can modify them/paint them as you wish. Just check some threads here about prepping prior to priming. Gotta make sure all the mold release is off so paint will adhere.

It's a "b" mold. A seconded item, contains some usually minor defect that keeps it from being sold as perfect. They come up from time to time. Not something you'll find everyday though.
Contact Animefan or ASOK for a helmet price and timeframe.

IMO, dont start off cheap if you plan to make a nice suit in the end.... I started with a rubies two piece jango helmet... Cheap enough at first, but after spending hours and hours modding, i ended up with a cheap two piece jango helmet that i paid 50$ for and added about 50$ of time and material. I did the same with the hasbro blaster...cheap enough at first, but after upgrading to a "better" blaster on ebay and then upgrading again.. Im around the 400$ mark, and i dont even have a complete blaster! So basically, you have to know where you plan to go with this suit, accuracy was not a concern at first, but after almost 2 years it is all i strive for..
Ps.. Asok has a great kit, dont let the fp budget name fool you!

What he said. A lot of good people around here that will gladly offer up info to keep you from dropping dime on subpar products.

Haha thanks guys, I'm definitely not going for accuracy. Sorry!!

Despite how much I love Boba, shoot, I got this website's logo tattooed on my shin, I love the Mando culture as a whole more. So whatever I do will be a Mandalorian suit.

Thanks seriously for all the help, I'm going to shoot Asok a message and see. I don't mind having a B mold so maybe that would be the best route for me to take.

I picked up a Boba bucket from animefan about a month ago for pretty cheap. For $50 more than the Hasbro one, you'd be in much better shape spending that extra $50 on a quality helmet.

I dunno. With a bit of elbow grease, this can be turned into a nice bucket. I have four to work with. Here's the first one, in progress... Start with one of these and the measurements of the original, you can make a pretty nice silk purse out of this pig's ear. ;) Plus, it helps that two of 'em I found at goodwill for about six bucks each.

I picked one of these up a few years ago. I partially dis-assembled it, sanded it, filled in the dent*, and painted the helmet silver. *I had never used Bondo before, so I was starting very small by learning to do layers, sanding (and patience between the two) of the Bondo spot putty.

Now my little boy is highly interested in Boba Fett, so I've rounded up the helmet out of the garage and have been considering digging out the dent and painting the whole thing again Boba-like. I have no clue how to modify the visor and to be honest would probably foul it up. For that amount of effort, even just on the painting if I left the visor alone, perhaps just upgrading to a more accurate resin helmet would be better.

I just checked eBay and was amazed at what prices the Hasbro electronic helmets are moving for these days (USD$50 - $100!?). I had incorrectly assumed that they would still be available from retails for USD$20-$30, lol.

Anyway, here's another build thread where another member did modify the visor, with photos: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f23/my-hasbro-helmet-visor-mod-repaint-40087/

I have tried to mod one, the visor of course is extremely inaccurate and the cheeks and "tusks" need to be modified and extended. They do take alot of work to make accurate. But now that the price has gone up so much on them, you're better off getting a fan made helmet in my opinion. There are great helmet makers on this site and on other sites, and some wont run you much more than $100.
