Ok so .. after years of sitting on the sidelines reading and occasionally posting looking to snag my first part .. it turns out i have been thrust forward .. my time to begin is now

with Christmas brought a custom mando helm, by the looks I'd say its a modified rubies any thoughts ? i think it will be a great platform to get my painting skills honed ...

What Fett are you thinking of building? Helmet is a good place to start.

Well took my first steps today I'll try and keep up with documentation as i go !

Firstly the helmet was fitted with some LED's crudely put into the range finder they weren't wired up and pulled out with little fuss the LED's on the right ear however were hot glued into place .. needless to say it took a while to yank them and the pile of hot glue out ..

the Right ear was OTT glued with hot glue but I used a scalpel to shave it down then wedge it off, a relatively easy process

This next part might be good knowledge to have for those wanting to disassemble Rubbies RF Stalks the front plate is mounted to two posts and glued to the rear internal of the range finder stalk there is enough give in the plastic to use a wide tipped blade(so not to damage) to pry open the case I used a 25mm wood chisel, once I slide the edge into the casing and hit the supporting shaft a sharp wedging motion and the glue cracked releasing the first post, when rinse and repeat for the opposite side with only minor damage I now have the RF stalk in 2 pieces

this left me with a nice set of parts ready to sand ..

I started with 340 grit 3M sand paper to get it going followed it was starting to shape up ..

after that stage I began with a shave hook, as the surface hadn't been keyed the paint was easy (I say that as a relative term ..) to scrape off without damaging the surface, after about 2 hours of shaving and sanding i was left with what was clearly at one point a rubies Jango Helm .. for today that's all next up i'll sand with a finer grit and begin filling some of the customizations the previous owner applied
