What sculpts are each version based of and do you have any pictures? A aluminum Jango helmet might have my interest!

I'd definately be in for a Jango, but I won't have that much cash in a lump sum until late February. If it would be doable for you to hold onto one till then, I'd commit.

Here is some more info on the helmets as per an interest thread:
    Interest thread

Here is a thread on the casting process (the one shown was based on a DP delux)
    DP casting process

I'm looking for any old threads that show the original sculpts but they seem to not be around anymore. But to answer the uestion again, yes, it is my sculpt. It compares nicely to the MSH but I remind everybody that each of these go through a lot of work and each should be considered more of art than a simple raw casting (what I mean is that each has a bit of it's own personality)
The differences in Boba and Jango are achieved with maipulation of the wax casting. In the interest thread you will see the Boba in raw form and a picture of my complete Jango helmet. They both came from the same wax casting. The origianl was sculpted more true to Boba though.

Due to the high produciton costs I would require a down payment of $250 before I do any casting... I hate taking money up front but I do nothave several thousand dollars laying around to front inital costs. This will hold the helmet for you.

Re: Hand-Schaub aluminum helmet a go - commitment list

I'm the proud owner of one of these fine helmets, and I have to say that it is a true work of art. Anyone thinking about this should jump on this opportunity.

For all those questions about size, I hope Brian doesn't mind me answering them, since I own several different fett helmets. The helmet is a little larger than a Mystery helmet, but not huge like the MLC1. It's most similar in size to the MSH2. It's not quite as tall in the dome as a MSH2, but is slightly deeper front to back (the MSH2 is somewhat squished front to back).

    Hope this helps.

Here is the last one I did which I made for my ESB. I sold it about a year ago to somebody here I think.

Additionally here is a few comparrison shot I was provided with. If the owner of these is not comfortable with me posting this please contact me and they will be removed. Shown is MSH2 by Fettpride and metal helmet. Remeber the metal one is a Jango so the length was intentional. The Boba can be made more flat backed which in turn influences the dome and front angles a bit.

Re: Hand-Schaub aluminum helmet a go - commitment list

I will cast waxes this week. The wax casting process is the toughest part in my opinion. It is really what makes or breaks these. It is also the most time consuming and tedious part. I will require the down payment AFTER I have waxes and post pictures of the waxes.

    Thanks

I'd be down for the Jango helmet, providing all the details are correct! The more and more I can replace the rub n' buff with cold cast or actual aluminum, the better!

I will put you on the list...I take great care to make sure the shape, earcaps, and 'lack of details' are good to go for a Jango

The customer just wants a "mando" helmet. Earcaps and small mandable divit like Boba but no dent.

Well, other than the Non-wavy brow, there's several deep goughes predominately going across the back portion of the helmet, I'd imagine you'd have to add those yourself using a dremel tool.

Put me down for one please, i'd be after a Jango style, possibly minus the ear pieces attached? if that's not possible then just the Jango style can't miss a fantastic opportunity like this one

Is that $550 shipped? sorry of i missed it.
I may be interested in Jango if i can secure funds for it.
Whats a good guesstimate time of finishing each helmet.
In all fairness would be first paid first fabricated and delivered correct?
    thanks!

Sorry I was not totally clear on that. Right now It is $550 plus shipping BUT...since I am getting a few more requests for these than previously thought I may be able to get a slightly better per unit cost from the foundry. I will pass those savings on to you.

Timeline is somewhat unclear even for me. Currently I cast about 4 helmets in wax... I need to clean them up then off to the founry I go. The foundry is usually slower than chewed gum as far as turnaround so there will be some dead time there. But to answer your question in short about 2 months and yes - typicaly the first payed will be first dealt with. There are times when somebody is not in a huge rush and I will push it back. All I require is the deposit when the wax is ready - this secures the helmet for you. When I get metal back then I will just go down the list.

Re: Hand-Schaub aluminum helmet a go - commitment list

    Progress report!!

Well the casting is going well! I am working down the list and have finished up 4 waxes and will finish the 5th this evening. So far I have a wax ready for:

    1. [Aeria-Gloris] (Jango)
    2. TK7602 (Boba)*
    3. Galactic Bounty Hunter (Jango)
    4. Laan (Jango)
    5. Private (Jango)*

I will continue the waxes for the second half of the list after I return from Comic-Con
I skipped over Lotek becasue he still has not told me jango or Boba. I will add a picture tomorrow because I need to go out a get a camera (mine took a serious dump on me)

I will be going to the foundry tomorrow to start the investment process. This is the part where I will be asking those mentioned to submit thier payment. I need to put down payments on these at the foundry and as stated earlier I can not front the money. PMs are on thier way

    Thanks!

Update July 21 - First five are moving!

As promised here are the pictures of the first five helmets in wax...
The first shows them in the car ready to be driven of to the foundry.
The second and third shows them gated up. Up to this point I did all the work on these. There is a good deal of handling these go through which is why I consider each individual and of an art calliber.

What are the odds that these could be in our hands by August 30th (i.e., DragonCon)? It's less than 2 months away, but you said "about 2 months" so I just wanted to check.

I moved this to the helmet section. All items posted in the Cargo Hold are deleted 14 days after they are posted. If you plan to produce a limited run of an item and also plan to post an interest thread and/or sign-up list, do not post them in The Cargo Hold. Instead, post the interest thread/sign up list thread in the forum that is most closely related to the item that is for sale (example: post your interest thread for a run of jet pack rockets in the Jet Pack forum). The Cargo Hold is intended for items that are available for immediate sale or trade, not future projects in which the item has yet to be created or completed.

This is a general call out to anybody on the list which I have not formally contacted yet. Due to several circumstances, I am requesting any deposits to be made at any time. The reason for this is that I do not want to cast wax or send ANYTHING to the foundry before having a deposit. It is just too much money to front. I hope to have full deposits by next Wednesday when I plan to close the list. Thanks to all who are interested and have said kind words. Thanks those who have made thier deposits already!!

    Thanks,
    Brian

When do you think you would do a troop again in the SoCal Garrison? I'd love to see one of these buckets in person But with all of the times I troop with the SCG, I never run into you!

I'm actually with the Central California Garrison. I haven't trooped recently with So. Cal folk. I admit - most of my previous helmets have not made it to the costume floor - rather on mantles above the fire place.

You may also consider flexible welding face shields which can be cut to size. They come in different darkness which can be good if you have a helmet for costuming or for display.

    Hand-Schaub aluminum helmet a go - UPDATES

    UPDATE***
Just wanted to let all know where thier stuff is at.

The first five are in shell - 3 of them are burned out and nearly ready for metal. Two are drilled but need to be burned out. The first five should be poured soon!
The next four are in wax, cleaned and gated!
The final wave is being poured in wax this week and will be cleaned and in process by next week. Thanks!

They look great Schaub, thanks for the step by step updates on the entire process. It's like watching the elves building our Christmas gifts on some weird North Pole web cam, lol. Really makes you appreciate the amount of work going into these things.

Re: Hand-Schaub aluminum helmet a go - commitment list

Just thought I would update the group on the helmets.

Today marked the last of the helmets being gated in the wax (and finally my own helmet is gated) Not too much has happened to the shelled pieces. The four helmets from last week are nearly ready to be drilled. Now it is the foundry which is being preasured to start producing metal. I should have metal in the next few weeks. My goal is to have several out the door by the end of then month to those who are ready.

Thanks - let me know if there are any further questions.

Will you still be producing these by Feb? I *really* want a no-dent one, But I won't have $550 until Feb. I don't care if I'm the last person on the list, but I won't have the cash until then and I've been told I *don't* want to miss this opprotunity.

I spoke with the foundry today to push them along. ALL helmets are through investment. half are ready to pour, another quarter are already burned out and three still need burn out. They can all be poured in a week - but I took that with a grain of salt and expect them within this month. I think my presense there will get them moving faster now.

Ordo... this is the last bunch for a long while.

ordo, i can't speak for HS, but i got the impression way back when that this run was sort of a one time deal, given what a pain in the rear they are to make.

For reference - my full metal costume weighs 65lbs! That's metal gauntlets and all. I walked the full rose parade route in it with helmet on. Good times

I'm calling nearly every day. To be honest I'm not surprised that it is taking so long (I used to work for these guys you know!) I am getting upset with them and impatient. Usually the squeeky wheel gets the oil and I'm starting to squeek. Thanks for the understanding.

It's all good here. If I recall correctly from one of the original interest threads (before deletion) HS said that it could take 6 to 8 months. We are still doing good on time within that frame of reference. I socked away that cash the day I made my depsit forgot about it. I am sure that when that hunk of metal it will have been worth the wait. Fer sher!!!

I am still throwing around either trying to paint it myself or throwing myself upon the mercy of one of the communities incredible artists. I have been thinking occasionally over the past 4 1/2 to 5 months about the painting templates I have seen here and how they would have to be altered to account for the alu. base. Talk about complicated!

i can't wait to paint it... painting my AL armor was AWESOME! i just layed the paint right down on the metal, no primer. liquid masking on the big areas and on the tiny scratches... anything! no worries about going too deep and exposing the fiberglass or plastic. when it gets scuffed (and if you wear it out often it does!), the scuffs never show anything but MORE METAL

i haven't worked with templates at all, since i'm all about the rotj helmet and i don't think anyone has ever done a template there, but i don't imagine it would be any different than another helmet, other than whatever size differences there may be.

I complained and told him I xpect them by next friday. The problem here is that he has little investment in the project and what can I do... go and beat him up or sue him? He knows I wont so the best I can do is keep calling him on a regular basis as I am. As some know I am a high school teacher and I go on break starting next Thursday for two weeks. My intent is to get the metal and finish them ALL off by the start of the new year. I relaly want to make it clear that it is the foundry that is dragging thier *** which is why I gave a rediculously long turn-around time. I never thought it would actually take that long.

    WOW these arn't done yet...

I know someone who had a sculpture of two LARGE (5' wingspan) Dragons fighting each other. that was done in less time, than these helmets. total weight was 300+ lbs. i will post pics of said dragons.

    just my 2cents.

I know its not your fault HS. i just want to see your sweeeeet helmets finished already
