great news right cheek piece found

Well I'll be damned. Sure looks like it. I'd even bet that the connector is brass underneath that chrome plating. Good work. Now we need some dimensions to go by to be sure.

Next time you go to the denist look at the rotory switches that control air flow. Maybe they are the ones on the left guant.

I showed this to my girlfriend last night. She laughed when she realized what lengths we all go to get the right parts. She doesn't get it, I guess.

I thought you posted that they were $1170, not $11.70. And people were ordering them. I thought the insanity would never end. But, I guess it won't, anyway, so I don't know why I was surprised even if it was the first price I thought.

Fantastic find, secol!

I have question for anyone who can answer. In the second link that secol posted, the one to domotiquequebec.com, they list the "3-Hole Borden Connector with Stainless Steel Nut." The prices show "Nut & Metal Connector" for $9.95US and also "Stainless Steel Nut Only" for $4.20US.

Do we know if we need the "Nut & Metal Connector," or can we get away with just the "Stainless Steel Nut Only"? I'm just trying to minimize my spending, if possible!

Once you get one of these, how are you gonna install it into a painted helmet without screwing up the paint around the fake cheek thing? Just curious, as I'm about to order one.

Great find!!

Mask off around the old one, sand it or cut it down and drill hole if needed for new one and add the new one. then just touch up around the the disk if needed with the dome color. The helmet is supposed to be weatherd and beat up anyway, so any touch up work will only enhance the weathering.

It shouldn't be too complicated a process.

Braks, isn't there a closeup shot somewhere of the inside of the helmet from the underside, that shows how this particular greeblie was installed? Seems like it was somehow screwed or bolted on...

I was at the dentist yesterday and was checking these out. I can't wiat too see a pic of one on a helmet to see how the proportions are.

I took some pics late last night but I need to re-do them because they came out too blurry (due to the fact that this piece it so small).

One thing I did notice is that while I believe the piece is 99% correct, the 3 holes don't quite seem to match.

As shown in this montage by Brak's, you can clearly see the largest hole on the Borden on the helmet is closer to the upper-center of the circle (maybe even a bit to the left), whereas the big hole on the Borden connector is actually off-center and closer to the right side of the circle. This might mean it will have to be cut and mounted with the cut end facing out, but I think that will screw with the tiny holes and the way they relate to the edge of the circle and the larger hole above them...



This is probably just no big deal...but before I ramble on any more about it I want take another look at my connector after work today.

I noticed that too, but was thinking that it is flipped over and the smooth side of the piece faces inwards.

It was that product pic that threw me off...I think we're cool, this is definitely it!

Yep, it's just loosely in there, falls right out easily But, it will have to be cut with a hacksaw or bandsaw to reverse it as the shape changes in back and there are tiny tubes poking out the other end.

Hmmm....mine have different sized smaller holes. Its not a major difference, but enough. The one pic looks like its got some glue or something that is making the hole larger than it is. Good luck....

gonna have to keep our eyes open next time we go to the dentist.

In looking through the Parts of Star Wars page, I noticed that a part used on C-3PO looks similar to the part Secol found. It even has three different sized holes like the original part. This came from the clear V-8 model kit. It may be a bit big but maybe a 1/24th sized part might be the right size. Has anyone else noticed this or has this been discussed already? No problem Braks'. I saw it and thought it looked close. Seeing that they used this model for a ton of other parts, it seemed possible. But they did use dental expanders so the part that Secol found is probably the way to go.

I phoned the folks at www.kabdental.com. I was able to place the order over the phone and had the part within a week.

No takers on the diameter of the connector end? I know it's really cool to have the actual piece, but I really am a scratch-builder at heart, and I would prefer to make mine. Thanks in advance.
