Got my mystery helmet today! (pic)

I started working today on my MHK, great helmet. By the way, what have MHK owners have used for trimming the visor area? Should I use a dremel??

Thanks.

I don't know about everyone else, but I use a dremel with a fiberglass reinforced cut-off wheel. Try to go from the inside and go slowly- let the tool cut at it's own pace. Just be sure to use goggles, a dust mask, and have LOTS of ventilation!

Glad you like it Bob!

[OH! Be sure to check out my "Make-Your-Own visor sanding block" thread for a great gadget to assist in final fitting of the visor!]

Thank you very much for the tips, will start cutting the visor over the weekend. :) I finished sanding the excess resin today and also finished cutting the key holes.

I've trimmed the helmet now, sanded the seams and filled the dent:) It's coming alondg nicely. It's a joy to work on this helmet! I also cut the key-slots in the back. Soon i will start with the visor area, the worst part of the process:/..
I did't take any pics during the process. Did'nt have a camera at hand. I used a dremel, sandpaper and some small files.

Here is mine so far. I only used sand paper and an exacto knife. Do you guys think the key holes are ok??

No, the mystery helmet was cast off the original ROTJ helmet when Don Post was in the process of making their Deluxe helmet. Sgt. Fang bought one of these casts not knowing what it was at the time and fixed a few of the problems. It is called the Mystery Helmet because he wasn't sure of its origins. Anyway, Skygunbro makes a DP95 recast.

Actually, that is not entirely correct. The helmet that was sent to DP was a real Fett helmet, but it was not the original ROTJ helmet.

Sgt Fang said this though:

"After a week or so of debating, someone, who's probably forgotten more about SW armor than I'll ever know, posted that he knew what it was, and that my original was one of 10 bootleg copies that were made by Don Post employees while they had an original film used helmet in their possesion for laser scanning."

Has the story changed since then?

So it was an original ESB helmet then?

I don't think so, because it's smaller than the ESB helmet.

Here is a DP95 recast (bigger than normal DP95) next to a mystery helmet, courtesy of jeezycreezy:

Edit: Here is a QUICK comparison I whipped up in photoshop based on jeezycreezy's pics with the DP95 recast on top of the MHK:

On the left is my 95 DP and the right is my new Mystery Helmet. Check out the size difference!!!

No more pin-head Fett for me.

Yeah but if you give me a MHK, I'll look like a bobblehead :(

Fett is supposed to look like a bobblehead, that is what he is supposed to look like, in some pics he looks like one.... I said the same thing as you and BraksBuddy told me just what I told you. :)
