Is this rattlecan? or AB? Either way, it looks great so far. I like the burn mark on the dent.
NICE work man!!!
AB for main colors. Brushes the rest. Thanks guys.
How'd those kill stripes look Scott?
Great job so far 22ssplt! And for a first paintjob at all itīs even more impressive!
I like this burn marks around the dent too.
Keep us informed with more pictures to come. :-)
Manuel

Bro, that is looking awesome so far! Great work!!!![]()
Lookin' good Dave! Nice work!! Keep it up and keep us posted! Let me know if you need anything for the back panels...like a eye replacement. No, but seriously....

Thanks guys. Left ear is next and then onto the mandibles.
Well I wanted to work on the left ear but didnt get to. However I did work on the mandibles. Also pic shows the Borden painted.
Nice Dave! Are you planning on throwing some PRR maroon (or similar) on the mandy's?
Yeah. But before I tried it I checked it out and its real watery. Im gonna test it before I put it on.
It is thinner than, say, the SP dark lark grey. It is a color that requires more than one coat!![]()
Yeah just might need two coats, Here's another update pic.
That is REALLY coming together nicely man. I'm very jealous!
Wow! Sorry I missed this !
First time huh?I think you're far too modest
See, even knuckle dragging Marines and Hard Case SWAT Cops
can pull off a pro paintjob
Must I find pics of "MY" first helmet painting attempt to make you feel better ?
Terrific Job brother ! Seriously !
FP
I am grunting, staring at a AirForce chick poster, and singing the Marine Corps Hymn while painting.
HAHAH. Thanks buddy. I just want to do the lid justice.
well, apparantly i have been dragging my knuckles to get a post up in here...i have had the garden hose out "hosing" down one of my best buds here...i was just trying not to hurt his feelings with my honest opinion...but, here goes...LOOKS like your first lid, punk...i cant believe that you paint like that...after all the talking and such before you got this helmet....sheesh...you think you are doing something special here? well...i have news for you, brother....
YOU ARE!!! FANTASTIC JOB!! wish my first lid looked like this...wish i had the skills to paint my first helmet this way...i had to use the stencils on my second one to get a nice paint job, but you...you closet painter...you have just been Bsing us with your "i cant paint" attitude...well, consider yourself discovered!!! we know the REAL 22ssplt, now!! go ahead, admit it!!! you have been painting a long time, havent you!!!
just messin...good job bro!!![]()
Really nice topical work there.
Now if you can believe this, the ears have proven to be the most difficult parts so far. Mainly because the paints are thin. I will have to go over them again for more of a darker look. Just like I plan to do when Im nearly done...do some touch up work on the whole lid.
Dave,
Can you take a zoomed in close up of the left ear area so I can see the sizing of that decal?? Looks like it fits pretty good actually but I can't tell.....
Yeah give me a second...
Here ya go Scott.
And why not one more before I quit for the evening. Added some silver damage and red to the rangefinder. No LEDs. Im not a tech guru.
dude, seriously, you have got the hang of this...your lid is really looking fantastic, brother!! must have been that mystery lid you bought, being able to see some quality reference pics in person...but really, it is coming along quite nicely...

UPDATE 2-2-09
Got one of the big scratches done on the top. My camera sucks so the pics arent great.
Dave,
LOOKS AWESOME MAN!!! Coming together really well.
I just realized how bad my flash hurts the photos.
Thanks Scott. Im gonna put the decals on the right ear in a few.
Here ya go Scott. Thats the last of the decals. I think they fit great on the FPH.
awesome job brother!! i told you that you could do this!! looks fantastic!
Dang thats some fast progress. Great job!
really does look great good work
I told him he could do it too ... but that's Dave. He just doesn't listen
You are doing an awesome job man. I don't want to hear you selling yourself short anymore .. cuz now I KNOW it's bullhockeyOh, and Dave, you might want to stow that lifecast of your head somewhere out of sight. It keeps getting in the pictures. I don't think you want people to see your goofy mug now do ya
Great Job man, Bravo

Update. Since Im not happy with the pics of the helmet on this thread, im constantly taking more to show the helmet better. Here is some more.
Lookin' good Dave! I should get some work done today as I'm staying home from work due to the snow. I hate driving in Indiana when it's snowing...you'd think people had never seen snow here before!
WOW!!!That looks AMAZING!!! OUTSTANDING job, man!!!

Update 2-9-09:
Well the kids are in bed, workout done and time to paint. I really wanna try to work on this everynight to have this done before my JP gets back. Then the costume will be done.
I put on the killstripe damage, top scratch and some dome damage. Hope you guys like it.
Disclaimer: My camera skills suck. So if you think my helmet is a 2, at least give me a 4. Ive messed with lighting, the flash, everything. Im about ready to shoot it with my Glock.

Update 2-15-2008
Well Ive got alot done since last time. I mounted the right ear, painted the back red areas (minus some PRR maroon), and re-painted the back panels khaki.
The back areas I thought were too dark. The RLM 73 was way too dark. You can see by my earlier pics its dark. I chose Krylon Camo Tan which is fitting I thought.
That back panel color looks very close to the concrete color...at least from the pics! Nice choice Dave!![]()
looks really, really good brother!! cant wait to see this sucka all done!
Thanks guys
Well thanks a bunch to ShockNurse for helping me with the back panels. I have never worked with Masking fluid before. I thought it came out well. I also got in my BM stalk and Mq-1 so those will hopefully go on this weekend.
Looking good bro! Nice lookin' color your got on those back panels!!![]()
Got some more done today. BM stalk and Visor installed along with the FPH rangefinder.
awesome brother!!!
