Oh bloody tauntaun! this be great. and the "paper" gives such a nice rugged feel to it
.:thumbup
you are one accurate crafter.
Hmm..... painting up the bucket at the office..... don't get me started!
Thanks dude. Maybe one day when I gather enough experience and confidence.... and time!
Thanks Supes! :thumbup Like I said, your threads about painting gave me a lot of inspiration. Amazing stuff!
Glad you like this one
Thanx!
UPDATE:
I was supposed to start working on the back section, but somehow I felt more like doing the RF ear, and so I did.
I think it was a thread from FarGazer painting up his Sgt Fang bucket which gave me the idea to paint it gold. I think it looks very nice, eventhough it isn't quite accurate to the real deal. But I chickened out on the thought quite soon and decided to do a paint mix containing gold and deck tan to flatten the colour. Because if I look at the various photo's taken from the AoSW exhibition, I noticed that the RF ear more or less has that goldish glow to it.... at least IMO.
Anyway, here's what I came up with:
Only at the rigth angle does the light reflect a hint of gold metallic in the paint. It is not apparent from this pic though:
Also did the gray and silver damage:
And I finally glued on the right ear to the helmet:
Let's leave it to dry for a night:
Wow! That bright silver really reflects the flash!8)
Next I need to figure out a way to do the decals on the earcap. I'll have to do a wee bit of browsing TDH before I think of a method. Or maybe some of you can give me some pointers.
Thanx 4 lookin'!
May the force be with you!
Peter 8)
With your skills I would paint it by hand! Wonderful work you do here!
Wow... it only gets better.... Almost finished i guess.
What will be the next project?
:thumbup
So when will you go back and make the "real deal?"
One made from plastic, or better yet from metal.
Last minute update:
Zzzzzzz........
CHEESE AND CRACKERS!That is impressive!

Dude, you have me working up the courage to try my hand at scratch-building again. You, SD 68, Honus and some others have done some awesome scratch-builds!
I'm going to have to drag out my old batting helmet, For Sale signs & super glue and have a go at it again.![]()
Nice idea on the wires inside the range-finder.
Keep up the good work.
This isn't a helmet, it's a piece of art...awesome
I've been following this thread since it started, and have been increasingly more impressed every time I check it out again.
Just curious... how strong is this construction? Will it stand up to gentle use? I assume because it's cardboard it wouldn't be very durable. But, wow, what a great piece for display.
YES! Go for it man! Let's see your scratch build come to life.
Thanks bro! Means a lot to me!
UPDATE 26 FEB:
Today I had some spare time at hand so I took the opportunity to work on the right ear. Yesterday I already found a way to apply the "arch" decal on the ear cap. I did this by hand drawing the arch on a piece of paper with the help of the W:thumbupF template for the RF ear cap. I scanned it in and converted it to a bitmap so I could easily colour in the white arch and print it on my deskjet:
Just like I did for the left ear with the Count Dookie template, I cut out the arch and glued it onto the cap.
In the process I added some more gray and silver damage to the ear cap.
Next I had to find a way to do the nine stripes on the metal part of the cap. This was tricky, cuz I couldn't find any rub-on transfers here in town. Then I thought of something a fellow TDH-er mentioned:
Chris, thanks for the tip man! I decided to paint on the stripes by hand. I used a lot of references, as you can see from this desktop shot:
Thanks to Superjedi for the reference pics! (I printed them from the forum thread) They proved to be quite invaluable, and a treat to look at!
The result was this:
As you can see I also painted on the dot and the T in a sort of weathered way (personal touch):
For now I'll give the ear, and myeyes
, a rest.
Thanks for the positive input guys!
To be continued... 8)
:thumbup
That about says it.
Keep it up!
David.
I guess it doesn't have the rigidness of fiberglass but for cardboard it is quite sturdy. Especially because of the two layers I used. The dome is the most vulnerable part I guess, since it would be prone to cracking if it would drop on the flooror something silly.... aaargh!
Never speak of dropping one's dome! It be blasphemy! LOL
Sorry, got a bit carried away there...
This bucket would withstand the once every year Halloween party I guess. I could dress up my son as a Wookee and go trick or treatin' in the 'hood, no problemo!
Thanks for the compliments bro
Thanks David!
This evening I finally got around to mixing the PRR Maroon and got it onto the mandibles:
Now I better get a good night's sleep, because I will have to get up early tomorrow as I will be visiting Star Wars - The Exhibition in Brussels!Got my camera batteries fully loaded. Hope to see the real Fett prop there!
Back soon,
Peter
enjoy the day. I'm sure you will pick up idea's for the next project(s?).
Almosttime for Antman, coming closer & closer to Brussel as we 'speak' !
I can only imagine you'll be disappointed seeing the real prop, 'cause yours looks better!
Have fun at the X-bit!
This is amazing... I can't believe it's cardboard.
you are like the king of cardbord or something, this bucket is amazing!
I tell you, im working on one at the moment but it feels really ugly in comparison to yours
Wonderful work man, i envy you so much!
Looks great Bro, You've done a wonderful job on it, and I'm still awe struck at your creation, now I can't wait to see the RF attatched.....lol
Incredible work of art! Very impressive!
Thanks fellas! I did enjoy the xibit, eventhough I was sort of disappointed
with the quality of some of the props, simply because I am spoiled by the very high quality standards delivered by the people of TDH!
More about the SWE later...
There are times I forget it as wellThanks man!
Don't call it ugly if it ain't finished bro! Let's first see what you can do before we compare and decide! Go ahead and start that thread dude
You mean, like this?:
Thanks Chief!
UPDATE:
Started working on the back section, including the rim (more Maroon and grey) and the keyslot area:
Thanks for the encouragements guys
Stay tuned for more...
ZzzzZZzzzzzzZZzzzzzz.....
Hello,
WOW! You have set the standard HIGH for scratch made helmets! This is the best scratch made helmet I have yet to see!
EXCELLENT JOB!
Alan
You mean, like this?:
That looks freaking awesome bro, I hope you do a cast of this bucket because I'm pretty sure a lot of people here at TDH will want one.
This is fantastic! Wow. I always tell people it is amazing how far you can push cardboard.
You made it possible! :thumbup Thank you very much Alan!
You haven't seen my second build yet.....
Hmm....maybe....just maybe...........
Yeah, cardboard rules! Cheap, easy to process and light weight baby!
UPDATE:
These few pics only. This one is me! Finally, it's me in the picture!!Everyone will recognise me now when I'm in public...
I put in some very thin projector overhead sheet as a visor to get an idea of how the final helmet will look. This one's for you Coen!
Now all I need is a real visor.
In this next pic you can see that I "undeepificationised" the triangles a bit, as I found them to be cut out too deep:
In this detail shot you can see the damage groove on the left mandible:
Updated the grey sections on the left back area (not finished though):
And last, I also painted on the Mando sign:
To be continued.....
Totally freakin awesome bro... seriously! watched this from the start and gob-smacked what can be done with cardboard and a *sprinkle* of pure talent... 8)
Keep up the good work...![]()
*applause*
Bravo!
8) The visor looks great... The whole thing looks great... :thumbup
you could adjust the colour of the visor depenting on the day. (lighter for the night, darker for a real sunny day..)
Now that's a cool shot, with you wearing it!
It would be completely awesome if you would be wearing the complete true costume to go with it! 8)
Stupefied !
Thanks Mojo! I will!
Yeah, planning to put in that light adjusting lens material used for prescription glasses...
That would indeed make a nice gift for let's say, my birthday?!?!?
UPDATE:
Doesn't look like a lot of progress, but the details on the back are driving me LOOOOOOONEY!!! Here's a few shots before I hit the sack:
I don't know how some of you guys do the paint job so quick and accurate. That is truely awesome to me!
For now, my eyes and myself desperately need to have a rest!
Laterrrr!
ZzZzZZzzZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzzz......

All I can say is that the helmet looks incredible! The shape of the dome is dead on. The paintwork speaks for itself.

Most skillful, i don't suppose you might be up for a commission at all?I've got a post up on the Helmet thread if your at all interested!
Regards
Thanks man! How 'bout your batting helmet? I (and a whole bunch of other folks) would love to see it finished.
Buy me time and I will make you an army of those! Sorry dude, this ol' bucket is taking up all of my spare time. Cool idea for a cossie, what is it called?
UPDATE:
I think I finished the back section. Holy pepperoni! All the intricate detail drove me insane (I probably wasn't to far away from that to begin with) and all that late night painting almost made me go blind
. But it's done! Well...
except for the weathering/tone wash. But that shouldn't be as difficult as the paintjob.
Anyways, here's a load of pictures I took during the day. Enjoy!
Triangles all rusty 'n' dusty; inspired by SpideyFett's paintjob for JB:
Proof it's really cardboard:
Checking the time on the Old Church:
Last one for today:
Next up is to start some work on the dome. Should be tricky enough...the shape being round and all. Hard to pinpoint the damage. But what the hey. I've come this far!

Back soon!

Thanks bruv, I very much appreciate your generous compliments. But you're not so bad yourself... kudo's 2u2 mate! ThnxThnx!
This young grashopper is still learning all there is to know about mastering the delicate art of patience. Dankjewel gozer! Blijf kijken he!
Hmmm..... but whom would be interested in this ol' bucket?
UPDATE:
It's been a little while but here are some progress shots from my latest crafting.
Before painting up the dome, I decided it was time to think about the MQ-1 circuit board. I figured, since I comitted to cardboard for this project, I have to stick to that. And so I did (once again).
First off, I printed out the very helpful template by W:thumbupF. The detail on the MQ-1 panel is also quite challengeing. But once it is placed behind the key slots, not much of that is going to show so I guessed I could cut myself some slack and make it less detailed. Here's what I came up with, see for yourself:
First I drew out the main board and started on the CPU with all the connectors:
Next the resistor units and the board slits:
More detail; daylight shot:
Here's where I put on the connectors between the upper and lower part of the circuit board; and also punched some holes and slits and finished the lower part (I like the details on the screw):
And finally a comparison shot of the final piece:
That should be good enough to install behind the keyslots. After I seal, primer and paint it up ofcourse!
Let me know what you think.
Greetings from Delft,
Peter

That is simply beautifu!!! That circuit board looks 100% better that some of the casting I have seen and have bought! Excellent work! Thank you for sharing your progress, I am amazed every time I look at this thread.
Alan
Dude, are you kidding me??????????????????????
A cardboard MQ-1 Board????????????
Wow. WOw. WOW. WOW.
Wait til Braks sees this.
You sir, are incredible.
One of the coolest things I have EVER seen on TDH.
Man, I hate to break it to you, but this helmet totally.............ROCKS. haha.
Its really really great. I have been watching this thread since day one and this has been by far one of the best Cardboard builds ever!
This might be my favorite progress thread on TDH, ever.
Peter, I'm glad you started this project, I'm happy you're sharing your progress with us, and I'm just really impressed with your talent and execution.
That MQ-1 board comparison picture is a wonderful example of how the free flow of information, tips and encouragement here can yield great results, and be an inspiration to others.

8) Talk about raising the bar![]()
Mwah, I gues it doesn't look that bad...
Cutting yourself some slack, really now?
Are you sure you're satisfied that quickly??
Circuitboards out of cardboard..., it's both board I guess...
Tip: rename this thread to 'how to make the impossible possible'![]()
Thanks for looking Alan. Half the fun on this forum is the responses I get from all of you guys. Please keep looking!
No sir, I am not! Thanks for the compliment OSK, it's cool to have cool stuff I guess
. I'm just glad I can share here on TDH!
What!Hey, you gotta be kidd........... oh, phew! Thought you were dissin' me there for a sec bro
. Thanks!
:o :o :oT h a n k s ! :o :o
YES!!, I'm totally with you on that CD! Goes without saying that I couldn't have come this far if it weren't for that exactly! So THANKS to all of TDH and their contributors. TDH is a great place to visit due to its very talented and sharing members. Here here!!!
What bar? The one on the 25th floor at our office? Or the barbell in the gym? I can do 250 lbs on that!Well, at least I could... about 10 years ago
. Thanks dude!
Thanks man! If I only could find someone to rename
that misspelled "bukcet" in the title I would be happy
UPDATE:
To be able to install the board behind the keyslots, I built a box type of thingy to fit around it. Here's what I mean, look:
Next I primered and painted the MQ-1 board:
To be glued on the inside of the helmet. Now you see it..... :
.....and now you don't:
Rear view:
That's it, for now.
Please forgive me for sort of "over-posting" with pics, but I assume that images say more than words
Thanks for looking and
until next time.

Absolutly fantastic work all around., especially the MQ-1 board.
Thanks for sharing your work.
Peter... First rate bro... :thumbup
Lovin the MQ-1 installation... in fact the board itself is awesome! 8)
stunned, completely stunned.
i am at a loss for words. All i can say is....brilliant![]()
Hello Antman! Since you kindly replied to my thread, I am returning the favor. You are a great artist and have the most impressive Boba-lid in my opinion. I have a small question: In the WOF templates, what is the long piece that says "Inner Surface" on it used for? Do you think it is necessary? Thank you!
It's been a while since the last update of this thread, but finally here is some news. Be it not so good, or......... see for yourself.
I've been wanting to finish the paint job on this cardboard build but somehow I got stuck due to lack of proper reference material (CD templates) and time. And in the mean time I decided to start a second build, which also kind of put this one in second place. Still I felt obligated to finish this, as I owe it to many of you out there following my progress. So one day I said to myself "Just work with what you can find on TDH and put in some personal touches." First I had to clear my mind and took the CAT-CAT for a walk around the block:
Unsuspecting anything I just let CAT do his business...
But what light through yonder alley breaks? Surprise! My very own unaltered clone gave me a scare!
He put on the unfinished helmet and snuck upon good old pops:
Hah! Trying to scare the old man huh? Well..... it worked a litlle bit... all good fun....
.....'till DISASTER struck!!! He accidentally tripped and fell, with the helmet on!!
***!
Oh NO!!
As if it couldn't get any worse, he just kept spinning and rolling.....D'OOOOOOH!!!!
I dare not look how this ends!
All that hard work. building and painting.... crimony! Praying that the damage will not be critical!
Huh?! What's that I feel with my feet?
Oh no...oh no....OH NOOOO!!!
BOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! WHY ME!!!??!!
(notice that my kid is also in agony)
Sniff.... hey.....wait a second........huh?.....
No.....it can't be.....
Look at this!! Goodness gracious!
It's damaged, but unbelievably in all the right places! It is a MIRACLE!!!!
YEAH! Fortune be with us!!! Good job son!!!
Hugs and kisses!! WOOHOOOOO!!!!
A thourough examination of the helmet damage revealed that the newly added scratches are exactly placed in the correct area's. Sort of. This is incredible. This saves me a lot of paintwork!

So here it finally is, my interpretation and tribute to the WOF templates, the Count Dookie paint schemes and all of TDH's freely shared information on the Boba Fett helmet, "enriched" with a few of my personal touches.
Eventhough it is not screen accurate (dislocated dent, a bit too small of a dome, etc.), I am proud to have built this first lid. And I enjoyed sharing the progress here on TDH! Thank you all for your wonderfull comments and constructive criticism!
AntMan 8)
Note: Please don't try any of these stunts depicted in above photo's at home! All actions are performed by higly trained and extremely skilled persons.
No persons and/or small animals were hurt during the process of photographing above situations. You have the right to remain silent, but the duty to reply!

okay... that cat-cat thing has to be one of the funniest things i've seen in a long time haha
great bucket! cheers!
Lol, that was really funny. Your helmet looks great, Im building myself one now, also from cardboard. Ik gebruik jouw helm een beetje als voorbeeld voor de mijne.
8) Haha... just remeber to put the helmet locked up the next time you take your cat-cat out.
En leuke verjaardag gehad?
C
Hahaha, cat-cat doing his business, with lifted legg & all!
Funny guy you!
Anyway, the now completed finished by accident helmet
looks great. Just great, 'cause knowing u a bit, your 2nd
build will be better, hard as it is to believe.
Congrats!! Looks like your craziness runs in the family btw...
Hoezo niet "screen-acurate". Dit is echt een van de BESTE HELMEN op deze site.
that is an amazing scratch build! i'm in awe... especially that mq-1!!!
seeing that interior of the helmet after completion shows me that you sir are a GOD among men, that has got to be the greatest bucket I have ever seen, I really thought it couldn't be done, but ***, this could be used on screen!!
*** i cant believe they put *'s for oh my god, but I can put the word god w/o *'s funny or cant I put LOL
Love your Helmet. Cant wait till I start mine.
BEAUTIFULLY done Sir!!!
Amazing work throughout... Thanks for sharing all the photos...
Hey P, lovin that picture skit you did... very funny!
And as others have said and I before, this is truly an awesome build from card.
The details you have accomplished (including the MQ-1 board is nothing short of spectacular) :thumbup
How this has not been stickied yet is baffling to me...![]()
Beautiful work! I wish I had half the talent you do to do this!
Great job.
Jeff
Sir, really sir? Are you serious sir? I literally just exploded. This thread causes spontanious combustion. Don't look at it too long or you will begin to get jealous, and think of stomping his cat cat. But don't, don't do it. It's not worth it. You're better than him. His helmet is awesome, but you have morals. Calm down. Don't do anything rash.
Aside from the outragious waste of time that thing was that I just wrote, the helmet looks awesome. If only I had that kind of commitment.
I can't believe it's not Boba... Awesome, I can't wait to post my progress, I got the general shape done in posterboard, just gotta get another few days off to start fiberglass overlay. But there's no way mine will look like that, yours can be used on screen.
Superb work. Just working on my range finder and your pics have been a great help. Thanks
Simon
wow...... that looks so GOOD!![]()
im obviously in no position to be critical but i was just wondering? is that how u plan on leaving the dent. i mean idk i just pictured that his dent was more of a crater-like thing. idk, more ridges? more simetrical? hemispherical? i cant spellical? urs kinda looks like either he got hit with a hammer (which he could have? idk the story behind the dent) or it was made of carboard. which it was. and other than that complaint which is somewhat more of a question from a confused noob, this is the most amazing bucket i have ever seen. im currently making my first bucket and i also started from scratch with carboard and i can only hope that it turns out half as nice as yours![]()
actually i didnt even see the second page....my b....so ashamed. it looks great
I know this is an old thread....but yes, Antman is a hero to all of us who strive to scratchbuild....
Rob
Indeed he is, indeed he is.........
This is one amazing piece of work. How strong is it?
That is very very very well made helmet. You've got great attention to detail. I wish I had a helmet half as good as that one.
Do we get to see the new one you're working on by any chance??
holy hole in a donut, batman!!! saw your other post first; if THIS was your first
, I really can't wait to see your second! I hope mine comes out half as good as this. keep up the great work!!
:thumbup

AMAZING JOB!!! The Sculpt truely looks brilliant :thumbup The dome is so smooth too!![]()
once again, Amazing bucket!![]()
AMAZING......just AMAZING......you are offically my hero ;-)
Right weres me cardboard I'm off to have a go myself...arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The best BF helmet tutorial what I ever seen and willy amazing painting.
I don't necessarily like to post on a thread that is as aged as this one but, I do want to offer a very big "good job" and thank you to Antman. I've not worked on a scratch build as of yet, but the "tutorial-like" structure, and extremely detailed photos have given me a lot to work off of. Again, great job and I appreciate you sharing it with us. This definitely shows that the near infinite resources here, as well as a lot of patience, can produce anything. Thanks again!!
Hi antman , this is absolutly awsome , great help for my scratch build :] thanx a lot
Dude that cat-cat scene is hilariousindeed funny. Your helmet is amazing, great work.
I use this awesome thread of Antman's as reference for my scratchbuilds all the time...
Rob
wow... is all i can say. this is my first day in the forum and wow. of course, i'm takin the easy path of the dark side and am almost finished sculpting my cardboard bucket within 2-3 hours, but mine looks more like a cardboard box decided it wanted to become a bounty hunter but quit half way through lol. i still win the prize though for most ghetto boba bucketyou definitely win the most deceiving structure, as i'd never guess it was cardboard. props man
what? where's the end!!! I'm a bit late in saying this, but AntMan, you are awesome.
