First Bucket! WIP

New Hunter
This is my first post and first time building a Fett helmet. Super excited! I've used Pepakura before to build paper/fiberglass/bondo helmets and some Pep foam helmets/armor pieces but this is the first time I've used cardboard. Following Antman's builds as close as I can. That dude is a master, I can definitely see the flaws in my work but I hope to overcome them in the finishing process (filler and bondo). Anyways, here are some pics of the progress so far. Ultimately I'd like to make a "quick" costume for Halloween but if it is turning out well, I'd love to make a suit for 501st membership and just for an awesome display piece at my house!

Any critique and encouragement is welcome, thanks!

And if anyone knows how to make my images come in right side up, that'd be great.. They're all rotating 90 degrees from the way they look on my computer...

I'll be the first to welcome you to TDH, I'm also a new member and am not to far ahead of you in my first build.
Your build is looking good so far.
One thing I noticed, in the fourth picture: I'm not sure but it looks like you have your dome form backwards front to back. Sorry if I'm wrong but if I'm right I didn't want you to get too far into your build before noticing.
Keep going I'll be watching :)

Take your photos landscaped instead of portrait...or your can crop them where they are wider than they are tall. That's what has worked for me.

Great looking bucket by the way. My first build was from the WoF templates also.

Thanks Beetle! I think its straight, looks right when I put it on my head anyway haha. I'll switch it around and see what it looks like, maybe compare the pics side by side. Thanks for the keen eyes. Depending on the craftsmanship of this build, it might turn into a "practice" build instead. Just looked at your build, looks like you are a step ahead. Did you resin the whole outside and fiberglass inside? I'm thinking about doing that to mine next, although AntMan only used Gesso for his outside... seems sturdier to use resin. Thoughts?

Excellent ToEleven! I'll definitely do that next time. Its hard to look at these pics when they're sideways. Wish the uploader had a "rotation" feature haha. iPhones have spoiled me I think.

Yeah, I coated the outside with resin and added three layers of fiberglass/ Resin to the inside. Then used automotive body filler to smooth out the outside form. It seems sturdy to me. I've never tried Gesso so not sure.

Here is a marked up photo showing what I thought looked backwards (red lines).

I saw that too, @beetle, but seeing that you already noticed it, hadn't bothered to post my opinion until now. @jhanny - the dome support pieces are definitely inverted, see the helmet template files for guidance.

beetle and RafalFett thanks for catching the dome issue! The picture helped tremendously. I'm in the process of changing that now, luckily its not a huge deal since nothing is firmly attached. I think you guys just saved me from getting this "finished" and then having to scrap the whole thing and starting over, haha. THANK YOU! More pics in an update soon!

Quick update today. I reversed the dome supports and the dome itself so they are aligned correctly per beetle and RafalFett's notes. I think its looking good but its not attached permanently yet. I also cut out the cheeks and fit the new ones in. All in all, I'm happy with the way its going! I'll be attaching the dome soon and then will apply resin and some fiberglass to the inside for support. Trying to get to bondo/filler stage soon I can decide whether its good enough to paint or whether I should start over since this is my first attempt. Here's hoping! PS: Because you guys have eagle eyes, I'll say I had to take the banding from the visor part off the back of the dome because it wasn't gluing properly so I will cut another band, shape it with water and glue it on after the dome is positioned to hide the seam.
