Fiberglass durability

How much can it take? I've got a fiberglass bucket. Not the highest quality fiberglass work, but quite good. I'm wondering how much stress it can handle...

A long drop I'm assuming would shatter it. Such a scary thought.
What about a smack? Like with a sword or something? A small drop?

Why can't we just get functional armor and be done with it...

Fibreglass is quite durable. It will take small drops and knocks without too many ill effects. If you are planning on hitting it with a sword though, make sure your head isn't inside as I would imaging that you would have the worst headache you can imagine :facepalm

Its ok for costuming but not for actual physical combat :)

Possibly. Just remember the last part of the word...fiberglass. Glass breaks.:)

So, as far as use as a combat helmet, I would strongly advise against a fiberglass bucket. If you are going for combat gear, I would recommend a metal buy'ce. It may be more expensive, but it's safer.

David.
