Fett Pride Helmet.

ok, putting on the mod hat for a moment. the op was simply asking about the possibility of a recast helmet found on ebay, this isn't a discourse about the pros and cons of recasting. now i'm as guilty as anyone of going off topic in this thread, but lets get back on the original topic, or at least keep it light.

Setting the record straight, again …

The helmet in question was in fact an MR Production Helmet, that 'I' purchased directly from MR when they were still doing business, and put a CONSIDERABLE amount of time and effort into attempting to correct the garbage mistakes that they made with it. It sat on a shelf for more than TWO YEARS, while everyone else and their mothers, exploited the very same helmet, while MR was still in business might I add. I decide, ‘AFTER’ MR went out of business to share the work that I put into it. My very first recast in 10 years. Wow? I’m SUCH a dirtbag, right ? Thinking that people might appreciate my interpretation of the helmet that had been sold to death by everyone else without a single modification, and most cases without even as little as a corrected visor pinch. I offered my interpretation of this helmet at a time that if you didn’t have your own interpretation of it, you were no longer a helmet maker, because sculpts and mystery helmets weren't going to cut it anymore. It was supposed to be THE definitive helmet. I offered my interpretation of it, and for some reason, people preferred it? Go figure? Yet some four years after the fact, I still get my balls broken for it. Again, go figure.

Before this, every other piece and component I’ve ever offered, including helmets, have either been my own sculpts, or purchased rights from private individuals. Always above board. when NO ONE ELSE was, or had ever been. Still seeing pitchforks raised at me some four years later is just ridiculous. I’m so damned tired of it. Get over it. I said it before, I wasn’t the first to recast it, and I certainly wasn’t the last. But I was certainly the ONLY one ever to be vilified for it.

In regards to the topic of this thread, hell yes I had a problem with it. Partly because it’s sad to see it exploited by some anonymous dirt bag. I sold the mold, of MY interpretation of the helmet, to Asok. Gray area or not, argue it amongst yourselves until you’re blue in the face, there was still hard work invested, MY investment. My purchase of $450 from MR, MY many hours of modifications, MY time and materials to make the mold. And it was passed on to someone that I made arrangements with to continue producing it. Therefore recasting it becomes a disrespect to Asok.

But that isn't event what pissed me off the most. Where I took the most offense was the fact that the re-caster kept the ‘FP’ seal on the front of the helmets and worded his auctions as if though HE were ME, or and agent of ME, tricking unsuspecting customers into thinking that they were buying directly from ME. Anyone would have taken issue with this if they were in my position. He eventually modified the wording of his auctions (still quite deceiving), but kept the FP seal. And yes, it still pisses me off. Does anyone here want to argue that they wouldn’t have felt the same?

CarlJohnson, - it sure does sound like you’re another sockpuppet for the ebay dude . But that’s up to the administration to sort out. If you’re not, you’re obviously just ‘another anti-fan’. If you are him, let’s get it right man. Maybe YOU should have gone out and spent $450 on your own helmet , invested some of your own man hours into conjuring up your own interpretation of the helmet, then spent a couple hundred bucks on making a ‘proper mold’, after having possibly first taken a few JC molding and casting courses before using the public at large as guinea pigs while you learn the trade. Recasting like this is still considered riding the backs of ‘others’, and their hard work. I generally don't talk trash about other members works, but those castings are down right embarrassing.

Lastly, cut out the shots about GMH’s still taking 2 years. It’s getting old. GMH back log’s have long since been tied up. And with only a handful of misc regular backorders left to be filled, I've practically returned to normal business. It was a bad chapter for everyone. Mistakes were made. Explanations and apologies have been given. It was a bad year and a half. Most everyone has moved on. It’s **** like this that has made me bitter enough to not want to spend any time here anymore.

Happy belated New Year, to all

Chris

While I totally understand where you are coming from Chris, and completel agree, why you would even bother going into that much detail towards someone with a post count of less than 10 is beyond me. Everyone whos been around here long enough knows the story, and everyone has moved on. We all understand the deal with recasters, and henceforth, is why we basically just ignore them. Not coming around here much anymore is your own choice, but it just seems the only time you do post anymore is either kinda angry or explaining yourself. I love all the hard work you do for the community, and I guess would simply love to just see you come back here again for the reason you started : for pure enjoyment of the hobby. Im having a lovely aged Tequila on the rocks at the minute mate, so ill give you a quick toast to finding your enjoyment for all things Fett again in 2013 :)

Sincerely brother,
Jonny :)

I too have your back Chris. You did the work and when someone else tries to take credit for your efforts, you are well within your rights to get angry. The noob is probably bitter about buying a POS bucket and is trying to defend his purchase. If he would have done even a little research, he could have gotten a much better lid.
I know this is going off topic and probably beating a dead horse, but the whole GMH thing is in the past. Hopefully that whole experience as not fostered such bad feelings that you leave the board. Everyone here knows the work you put in and noobs like myself need people like you to provide the services that you provide as well as the knowledge of the hobby. All I ask is that you try to let bygones be bygones, come back to the boards more often and keep making kick @$$ products. And to anyone that is still fuming over the GMH thing, get over it. Don't let something like that sour everyone's experience with this hobby.
And like Jayvee said have a drink, take a deep breath, and look towards a new year

It's actually not his post count that matters in this case. This has been going on now for more than a year outside of TDH and has only been pulled into TDH in the last several months. I've been pretty quiet and dignified about it until now. Unfortunately, the several year long debate about my recasting an MR helmet is still a bit of a sore spot for me. It's those that 'have not' been around long that could get the wrong idea about me when threads like this pop up every few months. It is my feeling, that if I don't interject and give an abridged defense every now and then, truths will eventually be forgotten when recklessly written posts by seemingly benign newer individuals vilify me over and over for no good reason. Unfortunately, newer folks won't spend the time to research the truth in matters like this. So, it's not really a waste of my time.

All that aside though, thanks for the kind words man. I do appreciate the support. And I was actually having a nip of whisky when I wrote that lol

JC27, AFFD , thank you as well :D I'm still around and working on new things that I'd like to share with folks now that the messes have been nearly cleaned up. I'm really looking forward to a fresh start for 2013, and getting back to enjoying myself again :cheers

I wasn't around when all this 'MR' business was going down, so I for one am glad Chris posted what he did about the helmet because I found it to be very informative (I also didn't know that everyone else had been recasting it at the time as well). I had no idea of the origins of that helmet so that clears it up for me. Anyone willing to take the time to modify it and make it better has my respect. As a fellow vendor I have a VERY clear understanding of the blood, sweat and tears that goes into a project and the insane amount of time it takes to make things just right.
I'll admit that I have learned a lot about this armor just by looking at Chris' threads and website and the high level of accuracy he has been able to attain. Instead of being a 'hater' it has inspired me to raise my game and try to make a better product...hopefully others will view it in the same light one day too

It's guys like FP and RKD that get people involved in the hobby, and we all would lose out if they decided to stop. RKD and FP, just know that 99% of the people here are truly greatful for everything you do. And the 1% that doesn't, they can find another hobby.

Fair enough too mate. I must admit to not being aware what was going on outside of the site, so perfectly understandable, and I likely would've done exactly the same. The recasting business aside (which I totally have your back), I guess I just hate to see folk that have put so much into the hobby get disillusioned: theres a great little 'new breed' of folk on the boards, so to be able to discuss everythhing with 'the veterans', would be something awesome to see, and get everyones Fett-Mojo to its peak! So enjoy the whiskey brother, and heres to a fett-fantastic 2013! Peace :)

I'm grateful for you helping the community out and myself especially. 2013 will be a better year!

Thanks for that JC, appreciate it bro :cheers Seeing Chris' armor and other stuff around here has really opened my eyes to how much more I can improve, it's really helped in that regard to be sure.

The way I look at it is this: it's supposed to be a fun hobby for us all...why ruin it with needless drama and finger-pointing? lol

It's funny. You worded that last paragraph pretty close to that of "Steve" the recaster...

Well after a bit of research and the help of Art, it appears to be another one of his alias's.

Doesnt surprise me one bit. I see the same snyde attitude i saw when he posted in mine, and others threads. Disrespectful, rude and then a recaster to boot. I see he is deactivated. good riddance.

Recasters...we dont need their scum...YES SIR!

:cheers

I feel sorry for the people who buy these recasts... it's unfortunate especially for people who aren't on TDH and don't know any better (I still have parts that I would rather like to upgrade since my time on eBay. Luckily I never bought a recasted part).

As far as this eBay helmet goes, should not be bought! Unless Asok gave the buyer of his helmets rights to making duplicates, the buyer only had the right to the original helmet he received from Asok alone (if he was just selling the helmet he got from Asok because he didn't need it that'd be another story).

Sorry to hear about you trouble with the post GMH run Chris. Hope things can move on to a better year!

Anyway that's just my two cents...

I second this! I am building as much of my suit as I can and having high quality vendors is awesome to save myself time and head aches!

Who here can actually make their own Boba Fett boots? That is something that would be a roadblock. Without the support of this community, my dream wouldn't be feasible. Sorry, boots are a bit off topic.

Thank you to the vendors who provide such quality work for us to enjoy.

Hello all, I'm slowly learning the Boba lingo here and I wondering if anyone has photos of the insides of these helmets. Shouldnt that be your give away if these are legit casts or recasts? Unless there never the same... I want to start my build but with so many "knock offs" out there, I want to do mine with that kind of "Fett Pride" I see in the forums here.

new-b out...

Asok's helms are from fettpride a mold, which Chris sold to him so the Asok lids are ok. Do yourself a favor and don't buy a lid off of eBay. If you want one, a good one, do some research and buy from people on this site.

I am trying to be a useful member of this forum and since I can't paint anything, maybe I can help steer people in the right direction.
