    Fett Helmet History

Well, here it is. Please note that this info is not written in stone. It is all the info we have researched and compiled TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE. If you have extra info or see something that needs to be corrected/clarified, PLEASE let me know.

The original is far too large to post, so here is a link.

Cool, I have always read bits and pieces of history, but never took the time to put the pieces together to become educated. This is awesome!

You know what I have never understood. I hear it called 'cat eyes' all the time on the helmet. And to me, its not 'cat eyes' its 'eagle eyes'

The eyes are eagle shaped, and with the red on the helmet, looks exactly like a beak.

Just thought id throw that out there

I really want a t-shirt with all of this info on it.
Maybe an official TDH shirt with this chart on the back.

I am RIGHT WITH YOU! I have always thought that the "Eyes" version of the helmet really looks like a screaming eagle or falcon.

    Re: Fett Helmet History

Hahaha... Maybe someday we could do a small poster run... something like an 18 X 24! There is more info I would like to get first and I'd really have to go back and try to get really good shots of each helmet.

Also, I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I just want to make sure that no one thinks I did all this research. This sheet is a compilation of the work of dozens of Fett fans and friends of TDH! I am afraid to start thanking people for fear of missing someone but I would like to acknowledge Tyler Durdern as I can't tell you how many nights he and I have sat up for hours and hours, with the phone in one hand, a mouse in the other (sometimes swapping out for a scotch or bourbon) and just bouncing ideas off each other, as we scoured 1000s of images trying to find connections.

Art, that is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to do this! Thanks also to everyone who has contributed hours and hours and hours of time scouring over pictures, casts, plugs and talking to people "who were there."

I agree that this would make a great poster! A t-shirt would be cool too.

I am afraid it would be so small on a shirt you wouldn't really be able to see anything clearly or read the text.

What if you take the text out and just leave the images of the helmets and the arrows?
    TDH members would get it.
Or maybe just the names of the helmets.

I wonder that quite a bit... Did it become the ESB or PP3? Those are the only helmets it could have become because we know that it existed at the same time as the RotJ, Sandy, and PP2. If it did become the ESB or PP3, then there is another helmet out there that we don't know about and haven't seen. It it didn't (and I suspect it didn't and is still the "ears" helmet to this day), I really wonder where it is. The sad truth is, we just have no clue.

Thanks a lot man. I may now be doing a PP3 instead of the PP2, since it's basically the same thing, with the ESB style paint job on the bucket. AWESOME!!

Fact of the matter is, the PP3 is the nicer of the two. I don't know if that is because the ESB took so much damage from handling (and now apparently) being recast, or what, but the PP3 is immaculate and probably one of the BEST preserved helmets.

I am really hoping with a little more info and some comparisons, we can change where your helmet lies and can erase those question marks. At the moment, I tend to think it is most likely a casting of a stunt, but there is also the distint possibility that it is from the same molds as the stunts. Either way, super exciting stuff as we had never really even looked into the history of the stunts until your helmet came along. You made it possible for us to finally nail that whole section of the "family tree" down!

I couldn't agree more Lee....considering the early art for the left shoulder bell clearly depicted a bird skull, I would think that the helmet also was intended along those lines of a "bird of prey"........

    What a neat read

To think it all started from 6 ,20+ years ago and how many thousands of helmets are out there.
As anyone done research on the history of Jangos helmet and design????
Was there any different "looks"/color scheme for his armor?
Thank you again for all the hard work in putting this history together.

    Hey Art,

The "Ye Olde Prop Rumor Mill" urban legend is that the Jango bucket was cast/scanned from a Boba Helmet in the archives.

If true, where would the Jango helmet fit in the helmet lineage? Any leads on which helmet spawned it?

    Thanks,
    OSK

It is not true. I recently interviewed the person who sculpted the Jango helmet. They did reference a real helmet but he asserts that there was no casting at all involved which would put the Jango helmet completely outside of the Boba line. I am working on a second set of interview questions and plan to post the complete q & a when we are done.

No...just saying I have a screen cast Jango helmet...Banzai has his helmet...so yesterday we did some comparison photos. Just waiting for Banzai to post them...

It was just funny OSK asked that because Banzai had planned to post them in this thread today.

This looks awesome.... but, am I the only person who can't read it? I even tried saving it and increasing the size in my picture viewer. I can make out some of the spots with little text, but the areas with more text are just a blur. I don't think it's my monitor either, because we have a fairly new and fairly nice one here. Great job though. At least I can follow the pictures and the arrows.

Gypsyboy, Are you trying to enlarge the picture posted here, or the pic from the link just above the picture? As Brak's said, the original is way too large to be posted here, and he provided a link to the original, and posted a smaller version to tease us all.. Great work you guys! This'll make one FINE ´poster. Although, I hope you don't get mad at me for pointing out this, there is a small typo on the image. Just above the 'Lava' helmet, the description states helemt.. But, still, this work needs no critisizing, it is truly an art to behold..
    Thanks, Ville

There were six original suits, and I think it is reasonable to assume each suit had a complete set of armor.

From talking with one of the archivist in charge of the boba suit at C4 she admitted to enough pieces to make 3 complete suits thought there were left over incomplete sets of armor. So I believe this to be true as well. Se described it as a crate full of armor pieces but didn't recall the number of each incomplete set.

But I would say 2 suits worth in the crate as the prepro armor walked away... since the ESB jet pack is in the archives (also confirmed this with her and another person) I would say one of the incomplete sets could be esb... but that may be wishful thinking. Sadly the JP is in a million peices though.

Guys this is very cool. Thanks to everyone that contributed to the information and the graphic.

What is known about the original helmet sculpt? Who made it? What happened to it? How many molds were made from the original sculpt? Were each of the six original white helmets pulled from the same mold?

And to complete the "family tree", would it be bennifficial to show a graphic representation of the sculpt at the top of the page with arrows to each of the white helmets?

What is known about the original helmet sculpt?
    Not much.

    Who made it?
    Not 100% sure.

    What happened to it?
    Don't know.

How many molds were made from the original sculpt?
Based on the info we have, this is most likely the case, especially considering the low number of helmets.

Were each of the six original white helmets pulled from the same mold?
Again, we believe this to be the case.

And to complete the "family tree", would it be bennifficial to show a graphic representation of the sculpt at the top of the page with arrows to each of the white helmets?
If we had a pic of the original sculpt...

Glad to see this; it's been a long time coming.

Love the lineage discussion. It's the single most interesting subject regarding Fett.

I would clarify which Don Post is pictured in the lineage with a disclaimer that the '95 suffered further shrinking. Looks like the helmet off the lifesize display, though I think some of the later Deluxes had the same look to it.

    Great discussion.

I was always under the impression that the bobamaker helmet was a mysteryhelmet variant like the Marrow Sun or Sgt Fang but I don't think that has ever been confirmed.

I'm also certain that BobaMaker sculpted the perceived "wave" into the helmet.

We are actually in talks right now with several people who were involved in the original project, trying to get that nailed down. Trust me, when we do, you will know.

This really helps to simplify all the terms and differents helmets. Great job !!

Joe Johnston painted the ''Eyes'' and then this helmet is unaccounted for... could it be that this helmet was repainted as the PP3 ?? They sure look similar to themselves but different from all the others... That would also explain why the ''Eyes'' helmet is nowhere to be found. Any thoughts?

sounds like a good theory. That would leave one of the original white helmets unaccounted for though, not shooting down your idea at all though, as it is a very good idea, just something to think about.

Great work guys! It's nice to see this all layed out. Anxiously awaiting even more info.

So, what is the story of the Banzai helmet then? Which helmet is that in primer stage?

Best we can tell at this point is that the Banzai is related to the stunts and the ESB hero. I can't say anything beyond that for certain, but even that is a pretty huge deal.

Has it ever been determined why the helmet and/or armor was changed between ESB and RotJ? I've always wondered why that was done.

    Re: Fett Helmet History

I don't think anyone knows for sure. There have always been rumors that the ESB suit was stolen, but in the past few years we have come to believe that the PP2 suit was originally slated to be the suit used in ESB and from all appearances it was stolen (at least the helmet and jet pack for sure). Also, there are indications that at least some of the ESB pieces were repainted RotJ colors, but we don't know why.

    Re: Fett Helmet History

It was mentioned that the ESB was possibly used as stunt helmet in JEDI. The only shots I can guess where this was possible are the cool leap from the sail barge and the scream-like-a-girl-with-arms-flailing ones. Can anyone clear this up?

It seems I found the answer to my own question:

I was looking through my copy of SW CHRONICLES and saw the pic of a stuntman running to apparently jump into the side of the barge. It looks like he has one of the ESB helmets on by the earcap detailing.

    Re: Fett Helmet History

Without going into a whole huge story of everything, I will try and explain. The mystery helmet was based off one of the pre pro or production helmets, if I am not mistaken(forgive me, it has been forever since I recalled the history). So Sarges mystery is gonna be very close to the accurate size. The rubies helmet, a gawdawful helmet, is in no way an accurate helmet in size. I own quite a few helmets, one being a Don post, a SGT Fang, MLC and a Boba Maker.

The SGT fang is bigger than the rubies. Rubies is actually a shrunken down helmet. So, if you got a SGT Fang, you got one fine helmet. I don't have any exact measurements, I think TK409s site may have some more info on that.
