Is there any way we could get some more close-ups? I'd like to see some better shots of these "ghost killstripes." And maybe some closer shots around the visor. It almost looks like some of those big cracks and chips are intentional. Is it possible that this piece was finished at one point, then painted over with primer grey?

....hey now. Interesting thought!

terminal fettler: I took the pix I never noticed the kill stripes. Upon closer examination, I do see remnants of them. They are 8mm wide with a 6mm gap. The height is obscured though. I can only count 6 distinct stripes. My friend likely did not intend to make a replica but instead his own version. He was likely intending to repaint the stripes or leave them off.

TD: Why is the ear hump is missing? He may have had other ideas on how to build that part? But I believe he just lost interest at a certain point which is why the rest was left in disarray.

DAZ: There is a seam running across the top from top of each ear to the other. It looks like it's been bondoed over.

suspect86: I don't see ANY color other that the primer. Not even in the damaged areas.

saint_nasty: All the damage you see was there when I got it in '86. I don't know why there is that extra damage/scars.

I want to thank everyone for all the info and theories. Had no idea the depth of knowledge to be gained on Fett helmets.

I really just wanted to post a Fett artifact on the premier Fett board as I thought it would be fun and of interest to TDH. Didn't mean to cause any friction between members.

Regarding casting; This helmet is really a special memento from a friend and I'm not really interested in duplicating it. Sorry if I've dashed any hopes and dreams. Hope you all understand. Besides, if SingleSeat is right and "These known stunt varieties seem to have reached fan hands all around the same mid-80s timeframe" I hope one comes forward so you all have a better preserved example.

Thanks Barry for sharing this great find with us... it's a great piece to have, and for us "Fettheads" it's a very interesting peice for discussion....and I for one am extremely glad you posted it on this board, where it belongs.(y)

Wow.... I leave for a weekend and look at the amazing stuff that comes to light! Banzai88, thank you so much for sharing these pics with us as this is a truly rare and amazing piece! We have found so much that it is rare for something to come along to blow us away but this certainly has!

Looks like there has been a lot of debate about what this helmet is, but as Tyler Durden pointed out early on, this appears to be a stunt helmet which is super cool because we only know of one other in private hands! Why a stunt? The dent itself is the key feature that gives it away. Here is a comparison of the Banzai dent to the dent of a stunt helmet in the archives. You can also see these same marks on the dent of the ESB style stunt helmet shown in "The Best of the Lucasfilm Archive."

As Rogue Studios pointed out, the source of these appear to be Pete R who worked on Jedi and through whom, indirectly we tried to get a helmet from about 4-5 years ago. Pete did have a helmet but it was in a fairly unfinished state, but it also lacked the rangefinder ear hump as yours does. Yours is in a much more finished state and who knows... it could have been used on set!

Again, what a super cool find and a great piece of history to have in your collection! I respect your decision not to have this duplicated and am just thrilled that you were so willing to share details and info! Congrats and thanks again for sharing!

Darn, I knew someone would point out the Dent sooner or later.....Good Stuff Brak's...

Okay, I change my mind....I'm in the Stunt Group now... (y)...Still a great piece though.(y)

just to clarify?? what helmet was used to cast the Stunt helmets??

Art, thanks for the awesome info on the comparison between the stunt helmet and the Banzaii helmet. When I held this helmet, it had a very sturdy and solid feel to it which leads me to believe that it might as well have been used as a stunt helmet on the set. This is an awesome piece of Star Wars/Fett history indeed and thanks to Banzaii88 for sharing this "holy grail" of Fett helmets with us. Maybe plans for the preservation of this helmet should be considered.

from what was shown to us he used a blank unfinished buck and had to add the details. Maybe Art or Dan can add to this.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing the pics, and sharing everyone's knowledge on the subject. I just realized I know pretty much nothing compared to you guys.

That was fast. Ok, well since nobody is saying anything, here she is...thanks for nailing it down Art.

(picture: Brak's ref CD, PP3 on the right, Sandy on the left, and second stunt behind)

Unknown how the visor is mounted since it's a flexible-thin cutout of smoked clear plastic.

Yeah, we had this same discussion like two years ago on this scene.... I guess you can say there really is no SE version if it's always been there (ESB helmet on an ROTJ body)..
