Fang Helmet - Fiberglass or not ?

Proud owner of a Sgt Fang resin helmet fresh out of the box. My question is, should I fiberglass the inside, or is the resin alone 'strong' enough for typical wear and tear. If I'm going to 'glass it I'll do it before I start cutting out the lens area.

Opinions and comments ?

Cheers

i'm going to glass mine this week. it's a sturdy enough helmet, just don't drop it. tk409 lost a beautiful fang's helmet to an accident a while back.

I haven't glassed mine. I've got two of Sgt Fangs helmets, one I'm working on currently and one I've been trooping in since June. There aren't any thin spots in the resin, and I haven't had any worries. I wouldn't drop the helmet, whether it was fiberglass or resin. If it lands on something hard (asphalt or concrete) it's gonna break/crack/chip regardless.

you'll be fine if you don't but where it's crossed your mind, you should. Otherwise you're going to wish you did just for the cool factor of confusing people by saying "it's resin with fiberglass reinforcement" really quickly to sound all complicated and what not.

IMHO, you should. Sure nobody wants to drop their helmets, but accidents do happen. Anyhow, I'll be glassing my bud's Fang next week or so.

Stay safe,

Tim.

the fiberglassing is fairly simple, just a matter of following the directions and staying safe. Just know that a fiberglassed Sgn Fang is quite heavy! But the flip side to that is a helmet this WILL break eventually if you troop in it. Everyone I know who has owned one has cracked theres either in a small or big way. There is a reason the real helmet was made of fiberglass. There are however new resins that are 10 times stronger then what that helmet is made out of and from what I understood 6 months ago the Sarge was thinking about swichng to a different resin. Hopefully that happens because it sucks to have to ad 2-3 pounds to your helmet just to make it not break.
