Im not gonna sugar coat like alot of people will...its probably good from far but far from good I hope you didnt pay ALOT for it to be painted...no offense to the painter. I have seen worse though
Hey Sean,
I am no expert, (I am in the process of painting my own helmet and I am sure I will get beat up about it, though I think it looks good so far), but I think yours looks good.
Not bad. Not bad at all. You may want to move the decal on the front of the RF Ear Top to the silver part of the lower half of the RF Ear and add two small dots to the side of it.
Well Right ear cap the black area in general is to big the left ear the damage is half there its missing layers of red silver and rust misting... some of the grey looks topical not actually layered, and applied with a brush...you can see strokes. The D V on the right ear are not placed properly, the khaki on that ear should be damaged, Im only pointing out things that jump out immediately....I could go way more into detail but like I said most people will tell you it looks great, and thats their opinion. My opinion is its a nice looking paintjob, but it could be better
I dont mean to insult anyone really just people tend to look and at a glance the helmet looks like an ESB helmet, if you painted it and its your first paintjob it looks really good...but if you paid someone to do it a significant amount of money Id have to say you should try to get them to re finish it
looks good
I dont know if its been pointed out but the Decal on the right ear looking front on is in the wrong place its suposed to be on the lower ear half on the silver bit,
But its not that bad of a paint job Ive seen way worse , but yeah I hope you didnt pay to much for it
Personally I like it! Is this a CC Asok helmet or the standard FP helmet?
Did you paint it?
Apart fromthe right ear decal and the strip of siver that is suposed to be were the decal is its fine
Ok mabey under close scrutany it could do with a bit of work but in all the pics that arent close ups it looks good so once you fix those 2 bits itl look good
You should be happy with it
A good looking helmet already but Fett 4 Real and Jinto's good advice is more valuable to get it look even better... it would turn out to be a great thread that i would frequently take reference![]()
I'm not a painting expert, but for me it looks like an unfinished paint job. There are lots of outline marks not filled with paint while others are filled partially... The borden connector should go deeper in the cheek. But if you look at the helmet as a general view it looks good and the colors are the right ones. Right?
Respect!
in my opinion, it's a nice enough helmet that your gml would very likely approve it. that being said, i honestly don't know enough about the ESB helmet to be able to hold it under the microscope. my knowledge is rotj and jango, because somebody's gotta do it. though if it is YOUR first paint job, i think you're off to a really good start, and you'll only get better as you go.
Cool man, nice job - im not specific on if you painted it or if it was painted for you - if its your own work, i'd just add a little more fine detail to some of the spots where you can see some pencil marks, and add a touch more weathering, but great effort overall my friend! peace![]()
I see the decal which needs to be lower but I'm only seeing one stencil area that wasn't filled in taking a closer look at the helmet. The borden connector is from MOJO-FETT, it was acknowledged by the painter when I picked it up that it was a tad high but good enough for the 501st since I wasn't available for input when that part was being assembled/painted.
The person who painted it is an independent contractor with Disney and LFL. I paid less for the paint job than I did for the FP helmet itself. I still feel I got a great looking helmet and I appreciate the constructive criticism.
Sean
I'll probably get a PM now that you say that I know who painted it, and its yet another example of their ok work. Im not bashing the person who painted just so we're on the same page...but if I were you Id take the borden off drill a hole in the cheek and subdue it with glue to secure it to the lid...its sitting way to far out. And like I said its a good paint job but not on the caliper of the helmet its on. Looking more at it, even the silver looks brushed onto it in places. If your happy with it thats all that really matters and your GML will surely approve it.
I think it looks great. **** I guess I better pay someone to do mine. I don't think I could do it near that good.
Not bad and I have defiantly seen a lot worse. I would take Fett 4 Reals, jinto and RafalFett advise and fix some of those little things other than that it should pass.
I guess I'm playing to two different audiences. While I know I don't have the eye for detail or background on Fett like so many members here have (my expertise is batman), I really do appreciate the eye for detail which is why I posted it. I also have no artistic ability what so ever so this entire project has been paying top dollar for new items exclusively from members on the TDH, I haven't bought any second hand items yet which would have saved me considerable money to say the least.
That being said I do want a professional looking BF that will get me my BH designater in my Garrison/501st because my main audience for this project like all my other projects is to do children hospital visits. Currently I go as Batman for my Garrison to mix it up a bit for our charity events at hospitals. While I respect the opinions of the artists and members here as long as I can put a smile on the face of a sick child when BF comes in the room then I'm satisfied. I personally think the paint job will give any child the wow factor which is what I want. I know under closer scrutiny such as the TDH it may not have as much of the wow factor and I will incorporate everyone's thoughts as best as I can into the helmet (obviously my second audience).
Here's a pic of a recent visit that made it into SW INSIDER #123 (I'm the Batman), although I'd like to make it in there as BF eventually.
Thanks again for all the feedback.
Sean
Thats awesome, now if it were batman I wouldnt have a clue but with the fett I have a pretty keen eye
Awesome batman.
You can try all u want. Do as much research as u want. NO ONE will ever be 100% movie. The movie is not even right from one sence to the next.
I trooped this past weekend with a kaki vest. Not even the star wars buffs caught it. I ordered new soft parts to fix this because I want it to be right but I know no matter how hard I try or let others try it will never be 100%. No one will.
Sean - I really like the notion of "two audiences" that you've put forward - I think you're absolutely right because I've experienced the same thing: Perhaps on TDH, or while we're bantering back and forth getting into our costumes before an event, our fellow Fett-lovers or 501st members might criticize every paint chip, and I actually think that's wonderful because that's the only way our good costumes become great ones, but it's really the kids that I'm trying to impress! Sometimes it's tough to keep it all in perspective when we're researching for hours in front of our computers and labouring away for days in our workshops and basements, but in the end, a high-five from a seven year old means way more to me than getting every scratch right. ...that having been said, it's great to get every scratch right!
BTW, I remember seeing that magazine spread - it spurred me on while I was putting the final touches on my Tie Pilot (my first 501st accepted costume) - so you're not only making kids smile, your inspiring others to do so as well.
Sean, you are a great guyVery inspiring comments at #21 !!!
3 things.
Take out the borden and drill through the counter sunk hole,
MOJOs bordens are suposed to stick out the inside of the helmet as well as the out side , were the ones that came with that helmet just sat in the reases , so drill out the back of the hole and push it in a bit and its sweet ,
The decal on the ear, easy fix ,
Then get a some silver model paint mabey acrylic so if you stuf it up you can quickly wipe it down with a wet rag , and go over that peincil mark were the missed the silver ans a few little bits the silver was missed , ,
Also dont let any ones coments take away from your helmet , its a good job just needs a little work and itl be fine ,
Take the comments as constructive critasizm not as insults becouse they arnt ment to be.
Jinto is right! There was no trying to insult or to do harm in any way from any of the TDH members... To be honest sometimes hurt and sometimes is better not to tell. But I guess any contructive criticism is welcomed. As I said, the first time I saw the helmet I said, wow what a great helmet, but the close shots where a little bit different...
The kids will love it and that's what is important... not some Boba Fett experts (not me, I'm far from it).
By the way, I love that Batman costume, it looks very good.
Respect!
Constructive criticism I don't mind and I do appreciate all the helpful comments. Although I must say the thread didn't seem to start with constructive criticism. No worries, I have thick skin. I'm a 19 year Army veteran and currently a drill sergeant and have 4 combat tours under my belt. My last one as a Combat Advisor to the Afghan National Army... Just me and 1,500 Afghans to maneuver on the battlefield. Trust me, I can take harsh comments.
