ESB helmet interior and out
Ive very slowly been working on this ,
and Ive pretty much got all the parts now still need to attach some more and change out the old visor mounting screw and just have the accurate style
but Im on my wayAttachment 55381
between my self and Kurtyboy we have spent countless hours (and lots of money) on finding the right vintage components on our helmets and I think its paying off ,
the pic has the flash and its given it a shinny look , this isnt the way it looks so ill take better pics in the day light

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
That is awesome, you've really done a great job. Looks like alot of research and found parts going on there...Jealous.
I would say the only thing is the inside of the helmet has a tad more dark blue in it toward the top/dome. After seeing the real thing in person that's prob the one thing that shocked me the most, the ESB blue interior.
Great work,
Cheers.:thumbsup

Thanks guys ,
I think you are right Spidey ,Ive repainted the interior a few times as at one point I think I had it to blue, though at present its to grey , its hard to get it to that sweet spot ,and then leave it

Awesome mate! How much difference does a chin strap make? I hadn't even thought about putting one in mine.

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
Thanks Levi, Jbox ,This is more a display piece , though of cause it could be worn, , Ive added the chin strap (and all the other pieces ) to match the original, but if you wanted to add one it would aid in keeping the helmet positioned , some who troop do add straps but not a necesity
Here is a comparison to mine and the real thing ,Attachment 55949Attachment 55950Ive still a few tweeks to t to make it look eveen closer but not far off,,

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
Ive been working on the exterior, when I purchased this helmet it had the main helmet body had been painted (By Deadland)with the main paint work , the helmet is a Fett Pride premium Master Replica casting.
It had been dropped and caused the helmet to fracture , (how ever this is a goods thing) DL sent it back to FP, were he reinforced it with new fiber-glassing, there for making it as strong if not stronger than it was to start, any way so, as it happens the fractures are remarkably close to the fractures on the real ESB helmet, in some cases perfectly placed , so that gave me the idea to go all out, addidng all the extra damage and scratchs and wash's, and paint the ears and so on, and make the interior(which took months of searching the globe and teaming up with Kurty boy who was also doing the same thing , as being on the other sides of the world was benificail to both us) as well as finish the out side as the real ESB helmet looks today ,(plus the chin strap for completion,)
So Ive almost completyted it just got to add the pollariod lens and a few more scratchs add the SK lights in the topper and it should be done,, Attachment 56026Attachment 56027Attachment 56028Attachment 56029Attachment 56030Attachment 56031

What an excellent helmet! Awesome paint job deadland! James, your works always looks professional, and this is the top of all. Just don't forget to add the blue marker lines around the bottom of the helmet and the white/silver spot on the right lower cheek.
-
Re: ESB helmet interior and out
Nice work buddy ,I had totally forgotten about the blue marker,
The paint Job was an ESB era style so it didnt have much of the beat up look that it doess now ive had to get out the scalpels and files to ruff it up some ,and I mustve missed that spot on theright cheek

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
It's always easier to see others omissions or mistakes than yours. There's a saying in our parts: four eyes see more than two.

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
very true,,
Ive never been completly happy with the main red colour, its actually quite maroon , so Im half way trough repainting *** now
-
Re: ESB helmet interior and out
James that turned out fantastic I love all the addition detail that you have added to it, and that interior just leaves me speechless. Out of curiosity what color are you using to repaint the red sections with. My thought has always been that it is a deep red and that the color caboose was close but I can definitely see what you are saying about the maroon side of it.
-
Re: ESB helmet interior and out
Im just dusting some Caboose really lightly over it , It was a hard choice to make as it looks so good, but ,It was always something that stuck out on this helmet,

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
Love it bro turned out great. I have been toying with the idea of trying this color out for the mandibles and trim. Testors » Floquil » Railroad Acrylics » Paints » Mineral Red » Mineral Red PollyScale - 1 oz. Bottle

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
That looks like the right shade , its a really hard colour to pin point

Re: ESB helmet interior and out
Insane, really looks screen-used. At least it could've fooled me. ;) Reference-pic quality!
-
Re: ESB helmet interior and out
How did you even fit the chin strap?
-
Re: ESB helmet interior and out
I set bolts in to the ears and ran them through to the inner of the helmet poked a hole in the ends of the straps and put a few washers on either side(to match the real one) then did the nut up , ,pretty simple
