ESB Bucket Build... Take 2

research research research... what would us poor newbs do without the resources and forums of sites like The Dented Helmet. After what I considered a moderate failure on my part with my first build attempt I have gone over the fourms and decided to go with a slightly different game plan. My biggest issues being overall shape of my bucket and the dome not being quite right. I perused a thread or 3 where folks were using baseball batting helmets and skateboard helmets in their scratchbuilds and thought ...why not give it a go. So I rolled out to the nearest walmart and found a skateboard helmet that the overall shape of the dome was pretty close to what I want for my bucket. Now most folks seem like they are cutting the helmet in pieces but one guy here actually had the idea of making a sculpt of the dome the way he wanted then fiberglassed over it. This gives a workable pieces and if you screw it up you always have your form to re glass a new pieces to work with. I went about this a little differently tho...

The skateboard helmets tend to have a styrofoam inlay to make the helmet fit its wearer better so I removed it from the helmet shell and am using it to make a fiberglass dome with.

like the person here on the forums that went with this option I had to use something to be able to get the fiberglass off the form once it cures so I used aluminum foil, which will most likely end up being part of the helmet once its done. the goal here is to take this shaped piece of fiberglass and to trim it to fit the pepekura model which I also have done a couple coats of resin to today and will eventually glass the interior for strength and smooth with some body filler.

the pepped bucket with 2 coats of resin to the lower half of the helmet... the dome will be cut off with a dremel once its glassed.

this .pdo file has some nasty inaccuracies to the movie bucket that will have to be address once it all is one solid piece again...

not a bad start im thinking and so far going a lot better then my first attempt... I welcome any and all critism you folks have. =) More to come later

Looks great so far. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses. I'll be following this thread with interest as I'll be building a couple buckets for my family in the near future. Keep up the good work!
